Sons Of Avery's Organic Grow Journals

Man, all of the weed plants are looking pretty “Sativa-ish,” no? With the narrow leaves and all? I dunno anything about the growth patterns of Zkittles simply because it’s not a strain that has ever interested me, but from the looks of those plants, they’ve gotta be leaning more Durban, right?

I hope they are, anyway haha.

Haha it’s listed as an Indica on Attitude  for whatever that’s worth.
But yeh, looks like a pretty narrow leaf variety.
Same as the Durban x Zkittles.

Honestly, I can’t say I’ve ever grown Zkittles or know mich about it either, other than the name and a bit of the hype.
Saying that, I’ve not grown out any Durban before either, unless you believe there’s durban in GSC cookies hahaha
personally I don’t buy into that idea .

I popped those two DxZ simply because they were fems that I had and wanted fill up some space at the front.

Finally graduated to ‘Regular Emeritus’ this afternoon. Achieving trust level 3!

Now for the plants! Day 16 Flower.

This is why I love growing in ‘organic living soil’, if you’ve got a decent mix and soil biology is good, the plants just do their thing!
I’m not checking ppm, or ph, no deficiencies or over feeding. (Have I jinxed this now, and it’ll all fall apart next week?  stay tuned to find out!)

Tonight at lights on I watered in with 6litres 1tsp Quillaja, 8ml of FPJ and 30ml of EM1 activated Aloe, 50ml Coconut water, Sprinkled a few tbsp of malted barley then added a 2inch thick layer of hemp mulch.

The PDD is definitely stretching! According to the info from seed bank I got it from, it should be Indica with short height 🤦
I’m going to put it out there now, it wont turn purple either

The two DBZ are doing well too.
From what I’ve read the durban comes through strong in these crosses, with very little noticeable from the zkittles.
After receiving some Blue Moon Rocks pollen from @DougDawson last week, I’m thinking about hitting some lower branches on these too. Maybe next week at around 18-21 days.

Centre of the canopy was hitting over 1500ppfd, so I’ve raised the lights a couple inches and moved the fans up too to keep the tops out of the direct air flow.

That’s just about the best mulch you could use for growing anything. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Day 24 of flower.
After adding the hemp mulch a week ago, this is forst time I’ve watered since then. I lost track a bit this week with some personal shit going on, but good to know plants can go a week even at this stage without watering. And they weren’t even drooping!
Today watered in 4.5litres with 1tsp of Quillaja, 15ml of EM1 activated Aloe and 8ml of Thisyle flower FPJ.
Purple Diesel Daze are starting to stack up now and stretch looks to be slowing .

Durban X Zkittles (DBZ) is getting some sweet scent to it, but that’ll no doubt change a lot over next few weeks.

The @AzSeaindooin420 Chocolate Diesel pollen looks to have done its job on these branches of the PDD.

And just for good measure, a massive bee!

Today is Day 30 of flower :blossom:
And lights have been reduced to 11/13 (on/off).

It’s been a busy week for me, mostly getting drunk in the woods
But I’m back, and the indoor garden is thriving.

The stretch looks to have stopped, and just in time. I’m running out of space in this short tent.

Purple Diesel Daze starting to put on the frost

And the two Durban x Zkittles (DBZ) from CSI

These have only been watered 3 times now in last 2 weeks. But they seem to be doing just fine. With the stretch slowing/stopping they’re not as thirty now.
Tonight they got 5litres at lights on, with 30ml EM1 activated Aloe, 8ml of FPJ and 100ml of coconut water.

Yeah, if you don’t feel like you need to water, don’t do it. They look fine to me, too. It’s difficult sometimes, because you wanna do something haha, but if they don’t need it, they don’t need it. It’s much easier to correct an underwatering situation than an overwatering one.

Sounds like my week, too, except substitute “the woods” for “anywhere BUT the woods” haha. If you ever find me in the woods, something has gone horribly, terribly wrong…

Ah absolutely, I learned that before, the hard way

Right now, I’m just trying to make sure the soil doesn’t dry out too much at the edges, I know the centre will be fine for sure.

I did notice some of the new growth at the tops starting to lighten at the tips, so I thought perhaps the soul may have been getting a little too dry and forcing them to uptake higher concentration of nutrients… either that or they got too close to the lights at the weekend.

Me and my friends went from city centre bars and clubs on the Friday, to woodland campfire beers on the Saturday. By choice though, we didn’t just get lost

One way to kind of ensure that the soil stays evenly saturated or whatever is to water once with half of what you intend to use, wait like thirty minutes (or longer) and then water with the rest. You could probably even wait for fewer than thirty minutes.

Didn’t you and your wife just have a baby? How the hell did you swing a weekend out?!? Haha.

Yeh, 6 weeks old now!
what can I say, I’ve carefully plotted out and planned every step of my life to lead to that exact outcome.
It was also my brothers 40th, so I had that excuse too!

Little update of the outdoor garden.
Weather is starting to pick up again here after a few wet weeks. Beans have pretty much exploded up the fence along the trellises I added, tomatoes are ripening up nicely, apparently they ripen from the inside out, so those bottom ones are basically ready.
Potatoes have turned into absolute mammoths, hopefully they’ll have a nice winter harvest in time.

Rhubarb chard seems to be suffering from some moulding issues, probably just a little overcrowded in there with the lettuce.
All in all, it’s looking good though!

Attempted to make some Bokashi bran today.
I havnt followed an particular recipe, rather I looked at several different recipes and sort of just winged it :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
I decided to make 2 batches (the 2nd one as a sort of after thought once I’d jarred up the first lot and was left with a lot of the liquid).

My ingredients list is as follows.
*Malted Barley

  • Unsulfured molasses
  • LABs solution
  • Water (dechlorinated)
  • Barley (fresh picked from farmers field this afternoon. Ssshhhhh  don’t tell the farmer)
  • EM1 activated Aloe
    *crushed egg shells
    *dried banana peel

The LABs solution I had made previously as follows.
Rice wash water in a jar for 5 days.
Mixed 1:10 with organic milk, left in jar for 3-4 days, then separate the LABs solution.
(*edit the LABs solution is in the beer bottle :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

Making the Bokashi bran was pretty straightforward.
Making the Bokashi solution.
*300ml Water
*30ml of LABs
*30ml of molasses

This ended up making way more solution than I needed (hence making 2 batches of bran).

This solution was added (little bit at a time) to the malted barley. Stirling and mixing with a wooden stick until the mixture was saturated but not soggy. Kind of like a loose cookie dough mix… if you’ve ever made cookies. :man_shrugging:
Here’s a before and after of the dry barley and the Barley mixed with solution.

The mixture is then sealed up in jar, and now its a waiting game to see if it works!

The 2nd batch I made exactly the same way as the first, but added crushed egg shells, diced dried banana peel, fresh picked barley and aprox 10ml of EM1 activated Aloe to the solution.

So, fingers crossed this works, if it doesn’t, just ignore all of the above

Watered in 7 litres with 20ml of EM1 activated Aloe, 15ml Thistle flower FPJ and 15ml of LABs.

(I actually forgot to take a full tent shot :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

But here’s a branch of the PDD pollinated by @AzSeaindooin420 Useful’s Chocolate Diesel f3 pollen. Looks like there’s some babies in there!

Decided to collect some worm castings today and ‘reset’ the Worm Bin.
I’d been adding random bits of foliage from the garden and odd scraps from the kitchen here and there… so I tidied it all up a bit and added a load more coco coir and hemp mulch bedding, then fed them with a mix of bell pepper, banana skins, camomile flowers, kelp meal, ground oats and crushed egg shells.

Just realised the iridescence on the jar makes it hard to see what’s in there haha.

From the collection I managed to get a 1ltr jar full, and still had a couple of scoops spare that I added to the tomatoes and beans outside.
