I’d say wait another week. I’m going to hit a few of my outdoor plants with Sour Bubble pollen next week so I’m in the same boat. Those Pom poms need to be a bit fatter IMO.
Those hoops are just 10’ sections of 1/2” schedule 40 PVC. Most dudes if they’re in a bed on the ground will drive a length of rebar into the ground as a stake and then slide the pvc onto the rebar and affix that to the side of the bed with a metal bracket. Because I’m in containers on a somewhat raised platform, I drove 6 green fence posts into the ground around the edge and bent the schedule 40 between them. The green fence post things have a little channel in the middle that the 1/2” PVC nests into perfectly, I used small duct
Clamps to hold the pvc in place from there. You can go on Amazon and buy greenhouse plastic clips that fit 1/2” pvc, so when the time comes to cover them I’ll drape the plastic, cut it to size and clip it to the pvc hoops. Hope that helps!!
@Lobstah we gotta get our fall/winter crops going here too, mostly garlic and shallot that we let overwinter and harvest come spring
@BeagleZ @NorthNorthNugs I was thinking she needed a little more time to swell too, just needed to bounce it off the OG homie sounding board, thanks my dudes!
And speaking of fall and gardening, I use a lot of worm castings. It’s part of my potting soil mix, and I also use it in my garden beds. Don’t know if anyone’s near an Aubuchon Hardware, but the have 30lb bags for $24.95 (called soil builder), and if you register for an account you get 30% off your first order. Just bought 4 bags along with a pint of fish and seaweed liquid fertilizer.
Pretty good deal.
We’ll be popping seeds and filling pots in no time
Worm castings helped produce this Bad Larry:

Got an abuchons right down the road bud! Time to load up
All right, todays the day, the lowers of the PKxUHP are getting pollinated. Gonna wait until this afternoon when the dew burns off and then I’ll brush em and bag em overnight (paper bag.) then tomorrow I’ll pull the bags and spray em down once I’ve visually confirmed the pollen took. Now fingers crossed it remained viable. I’ll post pictures when I get out there.
In terms of an update the Stop Lights has been riding the struggle bud lately, lots of yellowing leaves and now some brown spots developing, I’m a little confused since I hit her with a top dress and some liquid fish at the first sign of yellowing but it doesn’t seem to have really done much, I have a comfrey tea in the works now and I’m thinking I might give the whole thing to the SL rather than splitting it between the two since the PK seems happier than a pig in shot currently. I’ll post pics later and probably call on Johnny himself to see if he can help me troubleshoot
So this afternoon I went through with the pollination, but I’m a little skeptical about how successful it’s gonna be. I had theee vials with pollen as well as one q-tip that I had rolled in pollen and stored in a bag (heard about this as a good way to store a small amount of pollen) each of the vials appeared to have some clumping happening to one degree or another, so I’m not sure about the viability. I decided to hit a branch with each of the pollen collection methods: one with pollen from each vial, and one with the q-tip. I figured this way if any of the vials were actually viable I’ll have the best chance of actually copping some seeds. I went ahead and hit the branches and then covered them with paper bags, here’s what she looked like late this afternoon:
My plan is to pull the bags tomorrow afternoon/evening and spray the whole plant down to neutralize whatever pollen might still possibly be viable (if there was any to begin with) this should be enough time for the pollination to take right?
Then there’s the stop lights:
As you can see she’s not looking her absolute best. @JohnnyPotseed any clue what might be up here? When I noticed some slight yellowing I hit her with a top dress, and a watering with fish hydrolysate, and didn’t see any real improvement. I fed both plants a comfrey tea today that I had brewing. The PK has been rolling along but this old gal seems a little bummed. There’s part of me that thinks it might be caused by the temps we’ve had: last week was down in the 50’s-60’s and this week is back up in the 80’s, if anyone has any theories please let me know, I wanna do Johnny’s genetics justice.
That’s where we’re at for now, I’ll update tomorrow when I pull the bags if I see brown pistils or not. Be good out there fam
Just now realizing those are awful pics of the stop lights, sorry, the leaves are yellowing and there are brown spots starting to appear, you can kind of start to make it out in that photo, I’ll get better ones tomorrow
Here’s some better shots of the stop lights leaves
It’s not starting at the bottom and moving upwards, it’s showing in the top 1/3 of the plant. Never had an issue with an OD plant like this so I’m a little stumped at the moment. Insights appreciated
That’s happened to me a few times. Not necessarily with the brown spots, but weird yellowing/crispiness happening closer to the top or sometimes just randomly all over the plants. I’m not sure I ever did figure out what it was, probably just let them ride, as I tend to do. I think I watered with epsom salt, maybe, can’t remember if that fixed anything or not.
For sure.
Looks like it!
I’ll be curious to see how many seeds these end up yielding, I’ve got three female phenos in veg including a cut of this one that’s flowering outside. I figure I’ll see how the smoke is from this one to determine if I wanna flower out the other two at some point or just let em go. The male I had I chopped but threw some cuttings in the fridge just in case.
Went up today and gave some attention to the Stop Lights. Cut back a bunch of the yellowing and brown spotted leaves and cleaned up some lower larfy bud sites all with the hopes of directing the focus to the top sites and hopefully putting less demand on the soil so that things can even out a bit. I get the sense that this plant would have much preferred her own bed to herself . I will say that after trimming my hands were super sticky and smelled of pine and grape juice, so there’s definitely something fun in there to be had. Hopefully I can get her to harvest without too much issue and get a proper sample.
Nice work on the pollination! I’m going to do a few branches of mine as well tmrw. I’ve had successful pollination with only 2-4 hrs exposure to pollen before spraying, so you should be good. Hope you get something fun to play with!
My Afghan Lemon started throwing yellowing leaves rapidly in the last few days as well but she’s budding hard so I think it’s just using up some reserves. I gave some liquid feed like you as well so I’m sure it will respond nicely. This worked for my Sour d sweet skunk and Goji’s in the small pots so I’m sure it will work for you also. I think it’s a bit natural for them to do this and I’m trying to convince myself that a bit of yellowing won’t take the plant down, we’ll see! Lol
Plants are filling out nicely!
Yea man I went up today and cleaned her out, of all the necrotic stuff. hopefully it’ll give me a better idea what the remaining leaves are doing relative to the feeds I gave her. Either way we’re gonna ride this bitch out on the rims if we have to
Haha hell ya bud! I know, I’ve been on this journey since May 1st! These bitches are going to finish no matter what!!
They’re calling for rain tomorrow so I decided to get the plastic up over the gals, those clips actually do a pretty good job. We’ll see after the first proper storm with some wind how sturdy the whole deal is
I dig it man your whole setup rocks no pun intended
Thanks, there have been a few failed iterations of this kind of enclosure in past years, I’m hoping this one will be successful. Feel good about it at the moment but time will tell
Hell yeah brother I need to figure something out reel soon …
Already getting mold
Man that’s a bummer, seems inevitable outdoors though in one way or another. The hunt for a mold/rot proof variety continues right?
