I have been trying to dry in the same tent I flower in. I try to plan to have 1 of my tents open, but sometimes I have to use the closet. It’s nice to be able to give it a deep clean without any plants in it.
a 4x4 and 2 3x3s. This year I am using 1 3x3 as a mother, clone and germ tent and the other 2 for flowering.
Some good choices you have. I like the skywalker cross I grew out recently and my buddy just grew out 2-3 skywalker OGs from a smaller seedbank and he loved it.
i grew 1 of those and it was amazing during the grow, stunk up everything but unfortunately lost a lot of the smell during the cure. Good chance I messed up the cure somehow. Didn’t you grow that strain out before?
I know what you mean. I bought 2 more packs this week when I have about 7-10 packs in the que.
A nice trio. That rude boi I’ve seen people like a lot. Mac is a strain I still haven’t gotten to smoke. I bought a clone once but killed it in veg because I got nervous of the source of the clone.
A pack of strawberry temple and Dome fuel. Dome fuel is supposed to be stinky as heck and I really like the way the dragon temple I have going now is growing, so I wanted to get another cross with temple in it.
I meant to ask you about your preferred curing method(s). I cure in jars and have had mixed results. I know proper drying is pretty key and I’m getting better on that front. I feel like with some batches, the terps are less pronounced than expected. I just grabbed a few Grove bags to try out to see how they perform.
I follow what I think most people recommend.
Dry temps are as low as I can get them, 60-70f and 58-62% humidity (+/- a couple % is ok). If I have some really large buds, I might break them up and put them in paper bags, but that’s not too often.
I like to hang dry the whole plant if possible, sometimes I have to cut the plant in half or hang individual colas on a coat hanger. I don’t want buds on top of eachother. I’ll remove huge fan leaves, but leave some on because those have some water in them and a slow dry is important. I dry right before or when the small branches snap and by feel of the buds (8-13 days). A little crispy on the outside, but some moisture in the stem. I use a fan on low below all the buds to have a little air movement, not a lot… too much will cause the buds to dry a little faster than you want.
I’ve been using the grove bags recently and I like them. No more burping tons of jars and the buds cure well.
Thanks. I’m following pretty much the same course of action and things have been better with more recent harvests. Glad to hear you like the Grove bags. I won’t miss burping jars.
I suggest putting some of your harvest in a couple jars so you aren’t opening the grove bags everyday. The first few days when the buds go in a bag I might mix them up a bit, but they do better when they stay closed or even heat sealed.
The Jungle Lava got the chop this week, 88 days after dropping the seed.
She grew enthusiastically out of the gate and developed some nice heavy and sticky colas. She’s super fragrant; sweet and skunky.
She ended up with a nice thick stem and I had to break out the big Fiskars to cut her down. She’ll hang to dry for the next 7-10 days. Look like it should be a fairly decent harvest.
Pretty much a rinse, lather, repeat kind of week. No big changes.
Buds are continuing to fatten and getting more frosty and fragrant. Pink Rozay is sour with a subtle fruitiness. The Jealousy is a citrus monster. Oranges all day.
The appetite of both plants have decreased a bit and EC has been running around 1.5. PH has been stable, running between 5.8 - 6.3.
We’ve just finished week 5 of flower for this fast moving auto. Buds are getting fatter and very frosty and pistils are turning fiery red. Tent smells sour and dank.
She’s feeding good; slowing down a bit. EC is around 1.5 and PH has been running between 5.8 - 6.3.
Yes, they are still packing it on! Excited to see how this strain evolves.
Thank-you! Excited to sample this strain. Very sweet, cakey, and pungent smelling.
I have a question about PPM/EC fluctuations. I’ll often find after the 4 or 5 week of flowerEC/PPM will typically not decrease and will rise a little each day. For example, a reading may be 720 PPM one day and 750 the next. I’ll typically give the plant a lighter feed or just water to bring levels down and it will rise again the next day. I know in the later stages of flowering, plants can tolerate a higher EC range, but I’m wondering if the rising EC/PPM is a result of the plant settling into the range it should be at (and I shouldn’t really worry about these fluctuations) or if it’s telling me 'I’m full, quit feeding me and take me into a more comfortable range."?
I don’t have access right now to a lot of my old references, so I am going to do the best I can and hopefully it’s not a bunch of bs lol.
I think if PPMs are rising it means the food is to much, but if it stays at 750 for a couple days, then it is the nutrients settling, maybe the root zone affecting it too. Sometimes I don’t do anything for a day or two and see what the plant does. Also try checking the PPMs at the same time of day and I always add for some variance or error in the TDS meter… 2-3% at 750 is 15-20ish ppms.
Like you, I will add a light nutrient solution to bring the PPMs back down or water if they get too high. Some elements (P, K) are removed from the solution faster then Mg, Ca, so when I top off my res I add less (or 0) cal-mag. I don’t want to keep dumping more Calcium and possibly lockout P.
When you are mid-late flower, the plant wants less Ca and a little more P and K. So maybe you are seeing this mid-late flower because it doesn’t want as much of the magnifical and wants more P and K daily?
I don’t know how selective a plant can be when it comes to nutrient uptake in DWC. I feel like it has to have some control, but still is kind of force fed whatever is in the water… maybe it takes up everything but the limiting factor is just how fast it can absorb those nutrients and since some are taken at different speeds…
I’ve seen people keep the same feed during a reservoir change throughout the whole grow and kill it. Also other’s do 1 change for the week and top off with only water, rinse and repeat.
Main thing is to look at the plant. Does it look like too much nutrients and if it does, bring the EC down .1 and go from there.
Thanks, once again, for your sage advice. Right now the plants look pretty good overall, but there are definitely some burnt leaf tips/edges on the Pink Rozay that would indicate overfeeding. I’ll start to dial things back.
We’re nearing the end for the Cherry Alien Auto and she’s just starting her fade.
She’s not so hungry anymore, and her EC has settled in around 1.1 > 1.2. She’s been getting water only top-ups the past few days.
Buds are sweet and pungent and getting more plump and frosty. I had a quick look at the trichs and things are looking mostly cloudy but there is still some ripening to do; a little while until harvest yet. Looking forward to it!
It’s the end of week 8 of flower for these ladies as we approach the finish line; likely within the next two weeks or so.
Their appetites have decreased slightly and I’ve continued to lower their feed a little; EC been running at .8-.9 (400-450 PPM) through the week and PH has been between 5.6 and 6.1.
I’ve lowered the light intensity a bit as I’m wary of making the same mistake I did with the Jungle Lava I recently harvested (buds were very light and airy as a result of me running the lights too intensely). So far I’m not seeing any bleached out tops and tops seem very firm.
I’m very much looking forward to the harvest and starting my next grow. My next run will be sort of a celebratory grow as I am bidding farewell to working for the man and entering the world of retirement! Only one more week to go
Anyway, I’ve got some beans I’m waiting on to pop and we’ll get that retirement run going. This time around one of my tents will be rocking a couple of sativa dominant hybrids for a change of pace: Sour Mac and Rude Boy OG. The other tent will feature some indica dominant offerings: Moonshine Cookies and White Fire Alien.
