Moonshine Cookies & Rude Boy OG: Week 4 of Flower

L: Moonshine Cookies R: Rude Boy OG

Nearing the end of week 4 of flower for these ladies and the tent is filling up nicely. Both plants are continuing to grow very well and are both looking healthy.

Did quite a bit of clean-up on both plants today, removing many small branches from beneath the canopy. Feeding regime has remained much the same with about 7ml/gallon of Remo Nutes: Micro, Bloom, and Magnicifal. I introduced AstroFlower with the latest Rez change, 5 ml/gallon.

Moonshine Cookies

The Moonshine Cookies is a modest 22" tall but she's looking good and her buds are starting to pop.

Rude Boy OG

The Rude Boy is growing very well and is about 31" tall now - she’d probably be another 4-6" taller, but I did some super-cropping earlier in the week to keep her down.

Sour Mac & White Fire Alien: Week 5 of Flower

L: Sour Mac R: White Fire Alien

Almost the end of week 5 of flower for the Sour Mac and White Fire Alien. Both of these plants are growing really well.

Did more clean-up on both plants today, getting rid of a lot of smaller side branches and stuff beneath the canopy that will never be viable.

Feeding regime has increased slightly with the latest rez change, about 8 ml/gallon of Remo Nutes: Micro and Bloom; 5 ml/gallon of Magnicifal; and 6ml/gallon of AstroFlower.

Sour Mac

The Sour Mac had a modest stretch and is about 24" tall. Her buds are stacking nicely and the frost is starting to set in.

White Fire Alien

The White Fire Alien is 28" tall and really full. Her buds are starting to swell up very nicely.

That’s all for now. Thanks for tuning in :v:

It is day 76 from seed for the Rude Boy and day 67 for the Moonshine Cookies, just nearing the end of 6 weeks of flowering. The Rude Boy topped out at 38" and the Moonshine Cookies at 28". I threw a few more jenga blocks under the MC’s bucket to keep the canopy more level.

I’ve undertaken a significant amount of clean up and both plants are looking pretty darn good. Buds are swelling and the frost is settling in; especially on the Rude Boy. I’m a little excited by this plant. :star_struck:

Thanks for tuning in :v:

It’s day 76 from seed for these girls as we near the end of 7 weeks of flower. Both plants are looking very good for the most part, although the Sour Mac’s leaves are showing some very familiar discolouration :man_facepalming:, indicating some form of deficiency - I’m thinking it was perhaps a PH issue that I hope has since been corrected :crossed_fingers:

Things in the tent are starting smell very tangy and I’m looking forward to the finish for these girls.

Thanks very much! I really enjoy dabbling in both worlds - they each have their own challenges and rewards. I still have so much to learn!

looking good and another harvest around the corner. I like how you l’ve trained them and cleared out the middle of the plant to keep it open.

is that the one you like the most so far?

Thanks! I’ve probably done more pruning on these plants than I have in previous runs. I’m hoping for more smokeable bud and less larf - although my last hash run was quite fruitful

This is like the old who’s your favourite child question. There are things I really like about each of them.

I didn’t know what to expect with the Rude Boy, but I really like how she’s structured and how heavy the frost is getting.

The scent from the Sour Mac’s stem rub is intoxicating - incrediblly citrusy (lemon zest) and I can’t wait to taste the final product.

The growth of the White Fire Alien from the get-go has been super impressive. I think this is my third grow in a row where I have some sort of Alien cross going on (this was a surprise freebie I got with my last seed order). I’ve really been digging that Alien profile and keen to see how this strain shakes out.

I guess I’m most ambivalent about the Moonshine Cookies. She got a little later start than the other 3 but she’s still turning out to be a nice little plant. :seedling:

Moonshine Cookies & Rude Boy OG

L: Moonshine Cookies R: Rude Boy OG

Day 84 for the Rude Boy and day 75 for the Moonshine Cookies. Both plants are continuing to grow very well, getting fat, frosty, and fragrant.

Was probably pushing the plants a little too hard; the Rude Boy was showing some burnt leaf tips and neither plant was showing signs of taking in any nutes for several days. I flushed both plants for 24 hours before resetting them with a light feed of Remo Micro, Bloom, and AstroFlower - about 5 ml./gallon. That seemed to do the trick as both seem to be feeding happily once again.

A few more weeks to go. Thanks for tuning in :v:

It’s day 84 for these ladies and the end of 8 weeks of flower - getting close to the end.

Whatever issue was/is plaguing the Sour Mac didn’t really clear up and she’s looking slightly worse for wear. The spotting on the leaves also started to appear on the White Fire Alien. I’m not sure if I’m pushing the nutes a little too much and it’s lockout issue or if the PH is out of whack. In any event, I recalibrated my PH pen and I flushed both plants for 24 hours before resetting them with a light feed of Remo Micro, Bloom, and AstroFlower - about 5 ml./gallon. That seemed to do the trick as both seem to be feeding happily once again.

Just a few more weeks to go

The end of 7 weeks of flower for this pair and they’re both looking very good.

I’ve given them primarily water top-ups over the past week as their appetites are decreasing. Buds are continuing to swell and ripen.About 3 weeks til harvest me thinks

Nearing the end of the road for these ladies. Buds are getting firm and ripe. A quick check showed the trichomes on both plants trending toward mostly cloudy on the top of the canopy, so harvest won’t be far way - within the next week or two I’d guess.

The Sour Mac has been a challenge and I’ve recently been listening to some stuff about how Sour strains can be tricky to grow. I’m not exactly sure where I went wrong with her but am suspecting a combination of feed and light (too much on both fronts). In any event, she’s no show pony, but still looks pretty good.

I suspect perhaps a bit too much light for the White Fire Alien’s liking as well as many of her top leaves have canoed a bit and are crispy on the edges. According the the light meter and app I’m using, things should have been in an ideal range but I guess not for these girls. I’ve dialled things back since.

Strictly water top-ups for these girls as we reach the end of the line. Looking forward to the harvest.

Starting week 9 of flower and nearing the end of the road for this pair. Tops are getting fat and heavy.

I gave them their last feed and rez change about a week ago. Water top-ups only from here on out.

Moonshine Cookies

The buds are getting nice and solid on this girl. She has a lovely citrusy scent.

The Rude Boy is an awesome plant. She has really grown nicely and her tops are fat and frosty.

Finally back on OG with some long overdue updates.

Life has been throwing a few curveballs lately, hence my absence. I did not anticipate my foray into retirement would be so consumed with the issues associated with my aging parents and in-laws. It’s been eye opening (and frightening), to say the least. But enough of that. On to the gardens. Things have been interesting.

Note: I have been terrible about documenting anything (notes/photos) during my hiatus from OG so I’m not exactly sure exactly how far along some of these plants are :grimacing:

Mac1 Clones: Hermies?

Having only grown from seed, I had always wanted to try my hand at cloning and this Mac1 was my first successful attempt. I had previously tried to clone some Pink Kush I had growing but trying to do so using my Aerogarden failed miserably. It seemed like a good idea in my mind ‍:dizzy:

I had a Mac1 plant growing that was in the first couple of weeks of flower and decided to give monster cropping a go. I shelved the Aerogarden and used some rooting gel and put the cuts in rapid rooter plugs in a germination tray and covered them with a humidity dome. Success!

The cuts rooted within about 10 days and took quite few weeks to re-veg and start looking like weed plants again; a lot of single fingers during the initial stages of growth.

So, things seem to be looking good and on their way. Not so fast. The plant I took the cuts from hermied. So observant was I that I didn’t even notice until the plant was mostly dried and I was breaking up a sample :open_mouth: Honestly, when I’m growing in soil I am much less hands-on (and observant, apparently). All I really noticed was the buds on the plant didn’t swell nearly as much as I thought they would and the smell in the tent was negligible.

I believe the herming(sp?) was stress induced (a power outage) but who knows. The cuts were taken before the incident, but I’m not sure if that will matter in the end. In any event, I’ll keep my eye on things and hope for the best. So far, no signs of bats and balls :crossed_fingers: Mac doesn’t finish until October outdoors so these plants haven’t started flowering yet. I have one plant growing in a 7-gallon pot and the smaller of the two I threw in the ground. The plant in the pot is just growing in re-used Happy Frog from a previous grow that’s been amended with Gaia Green fertilizer. The plant in the ground is overdue for a feed, but I’ll likely amend her soil with Gaia Green as well.

Sour Mac & Moonshine Cookies

L: Sour Mac R: Moonshine Cookies

I grew both of these in DWC a while ago and was extremely impressed with the flavour and effects of both of these plants; sour and citrusy. This time around I’m growing them in Happy Frog soil and they’ve been getting regular feedings with Remo nutes since they’ve gone into flower (Bloom, Micro, AstroFlower, Magnifical, Natures Candy). These plants are in my 40" x 40" tent.

A rough start for these girls, and every plant in this update for that matter, as it was the first time I’ve ever had to deal with thrips. I noticed light spotting on the leaves of all of my plants and immediately thought it was some sort of deficiency or PH issue. However, once I took the scope to the underside of one of the leaves I could see the little bastards. I scoured the tents and treated the plants with some Safers 3 in 1 garden spray and that took care of the issue. Both plants are doing very well now and we’re about 4 weeks into flower.

Pineapple Skunk

The lone occupant of my 3x3 tent, the Pineapple Skunk had the roughest start of all. Along with the thrips, she had something else happening early-on. She was very wilted and runty; to the point I was almost going to give up on her. Glad I didn’t. She’s about 5 weeks into flower and getting FAT. She’s growing in Happy Frog soil and getting a mix of Remo nutes (Bloom, Micro, AstroFlower, Magnifical, Natures Candy).

The Nursery: Forbidden Fruit, Jealousy, Sour Mac Clones, Moonshine Cookies Clones

Seedlings and cuts are occupying the space in my little 30" x 30" tent. We’ve got Forbidden Fruit and Jealousy (the larger plants on the right), both started from seed and it’s been about 2 weeks since I transplanted them into 1 gallon pots.

I’ve continued my cloning efforts and have some Sour Mac and Moonshine Cookies on the go as well (2 of each). I’ll flower out two of them for sure and may keep one or both of the others as mothers. I’m still undecided.

Happy Frog has been in short supply lately, so all of these plants are growing in Miracle Gro potting soil that I had on hand for my hot pepper and tomato plants.

Thanks for tuning in :v:

You’ve been busy haha. Glad to see you’re back and updating.

I’m the same way. When I was doing DWC I was in there everyday checking the reservoirs and all that good stuff, but soil it’s much more laid back for me.

Good to see you got rid of the thrips. It makes me want to do a preventative spray on my plants in veg haha.

Do you plan on going back to DWC or are you giving soil a go for a bit?

Thanks! It’s good to be back.

I think I’ll stick with soil for now. Like you say, it’s a much more laid back experience. I also like the fact that I gain a few inches in vertical space by not growing atop 5 gallon buckets.

I’m quite curious to see if the Mac1 clones I took are destined to herm or will be viable. Everything I’ve read so far tells me not to get my hopes up… but I still have a little hope

well it depends. Was it a nanner fest or just a few at harvest and did you have a lot of seeds in the finished product? Some late nanners happen and aren’t a big deal… You mentioned you had a light leak one night, so that would certainly trigger it to throw some. If you don’t have a light leak this run, good chance it won’t throw any.

The light issue was a power outage during its light cycle - no leaks (I don’t think)

She threw a lot of seeds unfortunately. The bud wasn’t great to smoke and I ended up bagging it up for butter or hash.
