Finally back on OG with some long overdue updates.
Life has been throwing a few curveballs lately, hence my absence. I did not anticipate my foray into retirement would be so consumed with the issues associated with my aging parents and in-laws. It’s been eye opening (and frightening), to say the least. But enough of that. On to the gardens. Things have been interesting.
Note: I have been terrible about documenting anything (notes/photos) during my hiatus from OG so I’m not exactly sure exactly how far along some of these plants are
Mac1 Clones: Hermies?
Having only grown from seed, I had always wanted to try my hand at cloning and this Mac1 was my first successful attempt. I had previously tried to clone some Pink Kush I had growing but trying to do so using my Aerogarden failed miserably. It seemed like a good idea in my mind :dizzy:
I had a Mac1 plant growing that was in the first couple of weeks of flower and decided to give monster cropping a go. I shelved the Aerogarden and used some rooting gel and put the cuts in rapid rooter plugs in a germination tray and covered them with a humidity dome. Success!
The cuts rooted within about 10 days and took quite few weeks to re-veg and start looking like weed plants again; a lot of single fingers during the initial stages of growth.
So, things seem to be looking good and on their way. Not so fast. The plant I took the cuts from hermied. So observant was I that I didn’t even notice until the plant was mostly dried and I was breaking up a sample Honestly, when I’m growing in soil I am much less hands-on (and observant, apparently). All I really noticed was the buds on the plant didn’t swell nearly as much as I thought they would and the smell in the tent was negligible.
I believe the herming(sp?) was stress induced (a power outage) but who knows. The cuts were taken before the incident, but I’m not sure if that will matter in the end. In any event, I’ll keep my eye on things and hope for the best. So far, no signs of bats and balls Mac doesn’t finish until October outdoors so these plants haven’t started flowering yet. I have one plant growing in a 7-gallon pot and the smaller of the two I threw in the ground. The plant in the pot is just growing in re-used Happy Frog from a previous grow that’s been amended with Gaia Green fertilizer. The plant in the ground is overdue for a feed, but I’ll likely amend her soil with Gaia Green as well.
Sour Mac & Moonshine Cookies
L: Sour Mac R: Moonshine Cookies
I grew both of these in DWC a while ago and was extremely impressed with the flavour and effects of both of these plants; sour and citrusy. This time around I’m growing them in Happy Frog soil and they’ve been getting regular feedings with Remo nutes since they’ve gone into flower (Bloom, Micro, AstroFlower, Magnifical, Natures Candy). These plants are in my 40" x 40" tent.
A rough start for these girls, and every plant in this update for that matter, as it was the first time I’ve ever had to deal with thrips. I noticed light spotting on the leaves of all of my plants and immediately thought it was some sort of deficiency or PH issue. However, once I took the scope to the underside of one of the leaves I could see the little bastards. I scoured the tents and treated the plants with some Safers 3 in 1 garden spray and that took care of the issue. Both plants are doing very well now and we’re about 4 weeks into flower.
Sour Mac
Moonshine Cookies
Pineapple Skunk
The lone occupant of my 3x3 tent, the Pineapple Skunk had the roughest start of all. Along with the thrips, she had something else happening early-on. She was very wilted and runty; to the point I was almost going to give up on her. Glad I didn’t. She’s about 5 weeks into flower and getting FAT. She’s growing in Happy Frog soil and getting a mix of Remo nutes (Bloom, Micro, AstroFlower, Magnifical, Natures Candy).
The Nursery: Forbidden Fruit, Jealousy, Sour Mac Clones, Moonshine Cookies Clones
Seedlings and cuts are occupying the space in my little 30" x 30" tent. We’ve got Forbidden Fruit and Jealousy (the larger plants on the right), both started from seed and it’s been about 2 weeks since I transplanted them into 1 gallon pots.
I’ve continued my cloning efforts and have some Sour Mac and Moonshine Cookies on the go as well (2 of each). I’ll flower out two of them for sure and may keep one or both of the others as mothers. I’m still undecided.
Happy Frog has been in short supply lately, so all of these plants are growing in Miracle Gro potting soil that I had on hand for my hot pepper and tomato plants.
Thanks for tuning in
