- syzygy's journal - the clown show

I voted for the Sun Ra just because it isn’t an SSDD hybrid, always nice to change it up a little bit, but I totally forgot you’d already grown a bunch of those, so I retract my vote haha.

Voting for the Sunshine Queen seeds was actually my first impulse, but I didn’t feel comfortable encouraging you because two of the three Triple Goddess “females” I ended up with hermed pretty badly and had to be trashed. I liked the one I was able to grow all the way through, although she also hermed early on. And I forgot you’d already grown some of those, too haha.

Straight GG4 always made me very introspective, too introspective, but it’s possible the SSDD male could do some interesting things there.

No comment… haha.

Yeah, that does sound intriguing. I liked that Obama when it was around, like fifteen years ago or whenever that was. I always assumed that it was just one of those re-named OG’s, like the Michael Phelps and all of the others that seemed to make an appearance every time some celebrity went viral for doing something and then disappeared just as quickly, but apparently it’s a real, actual cultivar (I’m still doubtful haha). Zephyr grew either the straight Obama or a hybrid of it a while back. I trust his judgement and don’t think he’d waste his time growing some bullshit. He liked it. Obama combined with Sour Diesel sounds pretty great.

Too bad they’re feminized seeds… haha.

You should’ve at least tried it once or done something with it! haha. But I get it. I had to trash a bunch of plants after a drying issue once, broke my heart…

Anyway… I dunno, syzygy. I don’t know what you should grow haha. I’m not sure I’d buy/grow any of those, but obviously you know what you’re interested in.

Why not just check out some more SSDD seeds? That’d probably be the one I’d go with.

Yeah, why not? You clearly like something about those Triple Sunshines. Could be the TK that’s in the mix, could be something… else haha. I’d pop those. Or the Obama hybrid.

Yeahhhh… My girl’s reealllyyy into the whole “training” thing with the new-ish pup. On the one hand, I understand what she’s trying to accomplish and it does seem to be “working”; on the other, I dunno. It almost feels like she’s “teasing” her or something. I know that’s not what it is, but I do sometimes think,”Does everything have to be a ‘training exercise’? Can’t we just let her run around like a freak for a little bit?” She knows better than I, though. And you clearly do, too haha.

I love that pic, all like,”Is this what you want me to do? Will doing this get me my ball and a treat?”

They’re all great pics, though. Love them dawgs! haha.

Yeah it was super upsetting. I had beautiful day from bodhi , the Obama x sour d and crickets og kush cross . All grassy smelling and dried way too fast. Ah well, onto the next round which is field trip.

My second pick would’ve been SSDD. I’m curious about what all comes out of those packs. Then that chem d x Obama was sort of looking at me. I’m curious to see what would come from those. I’d watch field trip, but I think cookies looks tend to be a little dominant but I’ve been wrong so many times before. Curious to watch anything you grow! Lol

Is that yellow lead/leash you’ve got connected to both dogs?

I missed that because I didn’t blow up the pic of the CSI stuff last night, didn’t look closely at it until you mentioned that Chem D hybrid. Looked at it just now. What about that Bubblegum thing??? Haha. That seems about as different from everything else that syzygy mentioned as you can get.

I change my vote to the Bubblegum, even though that wasn’t listed on the Official Voting thing haha.

Ha, I just voted for them all!

Well that doesn’t help at all… haha!

Worst case scenario it is just an attractive ornamental plant like the Lav Jack. Could end up hating it or loving it. Excited to see.

I think it’s some kind of bubba S1 cross with mendo purps, or something like that if I remember correctly. I was given a clone of “Conspiracy Kush” years ago by TGA genetics which is “Obama Kush” x Space queen - not sure if it was the same obama kush though.

Well I’m just looking at females and not making seeds so I don’t see any real downsides there

I already have them. I’ll look over my seed list again and see if anything else stands out, but for this next run I think they will probably be the most different from what I have been growing.

I have no real knowledge base when it comes to Boxers but working line shepherds never stop. Dutch Shepherds are basically brindle malinois which are like GSDs on steroids and stimulants. Injecting some structure and impulse control is absolutely necessary to keep them from being a liability as well. It’s also good mental stimulation for them and they clearly enjoy it more when there’s a bit of frustration to figure out how to unlock the reward. Without mental stimulation you will never exhaust these dogs.

I’d probably have a more chilled out and hands free approach with a different breed choice but the intensity level isn’t really comparable to typical breeds from what I’ve observed.

Her doing that is getting the ball and getting me to play with her. The level of obsession these types of dogs have for reward balls is hard to understand if you haven’t seen it first hand. That’s why they are so easy to train and also one of the reasons law / military gravitate towards them.

Ya I’m definitely thinking about popping a few of them next round alongside the field trip (and whatever else).

For sure, I’ve only grown one cookies cross before (Granola Funk) and wasn’t thrilled with it. I’ve read so many overwhelmingly positive reviews about Field Trip that it’s got me really curious. If I end up throwing it out after one run it’s no big deal.

No my GSD has a 6" leash on to be technically leashed. The Dutch is on a 24’ Flexi

I’d be more than happy to send you the pack of bubblegum @minitiger ! I will never grow that haha.

In a way so did I by listing them - great minds think alike!

Haha, right, I was just kidding around. I mean, I personally wouldn’t fuck with feminized seeds, but yeah, I say grow them.

It’s the same thing with boxers (or so my girl tells me haha). Mental stimulation is key. She’s always doing these little games with the pup, alllll the time, with colored dishes and treats and whatever. I get it.

No way, dude. I think what you’re doing is the right thing to do.

I take almost every review with a grain of salt, but that dude Svechenko really seems to love it. And he seems legit, so…

Hahaha! I’m trying to thin my collection out a little bit, but thanks. I was just saying, you know, for the sake of “different stuff” and all… It might be cool to see if anything “bubblegum-smelling/tasting” shows up.

Everywhere I look I’m seeing eggs.

Also saw a few thrips on a couple leaves on the outdoor TK - not worried about it.

Coco Coir TK x TS smells pretty strong in the tent now.

Outdoor TK x TS did have a single male flower. I think it’s from pulling it out of the flower tent as it was budding and setting it outside on a different cycle with light interruptions. Will keep a close eye on the tent one just in case.

More CSI pictures because I’m going to merge with the previous pictures and post them to the CSI thread later.

TK & TS - hard to tell them apart at a quick glance.

Interesting! Will keep an even closer eye on it then, thanks for the heads up!

Here’s the outdoor one. Nothing visible on the indoor one yet.

One of the girls I grew also had a single ball on a lower at around 3 weeks, then nothing else. The other two were both clean.

What are those? Are they good eggs or bad? Haha. I’m going to assume they’re bad.

Lacewing eggs good guys I get lots of them here outdoors @minitiger

Ah, okay. That’s cool you get them out there in the desert and syzygy gets them (judging from the dog pics) in what appears to be a full-on fucking forest haha. I guess lacewings are everywhere.

Yeah lacewing eggs as @DesertHeartGardens said. They are natural predators here but I did put some cards out about 3 weeks ago.

That’s crazy-looking. What is that? Like lacewing eggs that you can buy or something? Why are they relegated to just the middle of that strip?

Also, thinking about what you said the other day about how I post a lot and that you think it’s because I wanna keep threads “moving” and whatever: I do ask a lot of questions and I do wanna maintain a thread’s traction or whatever, but also, I really am curious. I was wondering if tornadoes happened in Ohio. I am wondering what that shit on that black strip is.

I want to learn… haha.

Just gonna guess, but I think they’re all the eggs for lacewings, and lacewings like eating aphids. Attach some eggs to a sticky card, hang the card in your garden, and hope that they stick around once they hatch and eat some aphids, or whatever else they like eating.

Right, but why are they relegated to the middle of the strip like that? For shipping purposes? Packaging?

I don’t expect you to know the answer haha, I was just wondering. It seems so “exact” to have them all in the middle of the strip like that, there must be some reason.

Anyway, I feel like I’m starting to get annoying haha, think I’ll take a day off from OG tomorrow.

Lacewing eggs that you buy come glued to perforated cards that you have to separate and hang on the plants. The adhesive is a strip across the whole sheet in rows. They also are available loose in bottles packed in different media (rice hulls, bran, vermiculite (I think?).

It’s nice to have an area to hold and pull on so that you aren’t squeezing the eggs. One other important thing to know about lacewings is the larvae are cannibalistic. Keeping them separated as much as possible is a good thing. You only really want a limited number of larvae / eggs per card, as it’s better to spread them out more rather than have them all placed in one area. It’s why their eggs are deposited in an isolated area at the end of filament like in my natural lacewing egg pictures posted above.

They don’t just physically eat their prey, they inject enzymes into them which dissolve their internal organs so that they can suck them up. You really are better off having them not close to each other haha. They are often called aphid lions but really they are generalist predators and feed on a whole host of pests like whiteflies, thrips, aphids, mites, leaf hopper eggs, and more. Whatever they can get at. The adults eat things like pollen, honeydew, nectar, fungi, algae, so like ladybugs the larvae are what’s controlling pests. When you buy ladybugs online you’re usually getting adults that fly away and are in hibernation mode making them useless, so lacewings are usually (always) a better choice if buying bugs. Trying to attract beneficials and make your environment hospitable to them is important of course too.

I’ve read some places use inactivated pests or pest eggs in the mix to reduce cannibalism and serve as an immediate food source.

Doesn’t annoy me - often times (most) when I load OG I’m just reading it on my phone and can’t respond but don’t mind replying when I get to a computer. I’m not a fan of doing more than 1 sentence replies on mobile devices.

Lacewings are the green ones that bite and stink when you smash them?
