Awesome, thanks for stopping in and correcting my assumption! So is water scale basically mineral residue from evaporated transpiration on the leaves or is it an organism?
Yep, just water splashes that dried up, leaving a white crust behind. It’s not something living, you’ll notice it doesn’t spread from the hard edge of the drop. I have drips like that on my weed, I’ll show you what it looks like:
All I could find was random shit. Nothing that looks alive!
It’s really hard to see, in those images, actually. It’s like microscopic even at 1000X it’s like a fine coating of white. That random organic crap that’s dark, you can really see.
Right. It’s just fun to grow weed outside, even if nothing happens. I get it haha.
Yeahhhhh, I have a feeling this winter is gonna be another weird one, like it was two winters-ago. Same thing’s happening here, where it’s like 100 degrees one day and the next it’s 82. Really weird fluctuations that don’t normally happen this time of year. Usually it’s just HOT haha, which I like.
It might be kinda cool to see what happens with those, if, as JoeCrowe said, it’s not PM on the Vanilluna. You know you have it on the cucumbers and maybe some other stuff; maybe this’ll be a kind of “stress test/disease resistance” sort of experiment. I mean, if the Vanilluna doesn’t get it even though some of the other stuff you have growing does, that’s gotta mean something, right? Haha…
Also, love the “dawg on the tree stump” pic. My girl just brought a foster boxer home from the rescue she volunteers at on weekends and I am soooooo stoked. He’s a great boy, I can tell already. Only been a few hours, but still…
Fingers-crossed that we just end up adopting him ourselves haha. I love him already.
The mildew growing on the cucumbers and pumpkins can’t infest cannabis. 100% certainty on that.
Interestingly enough I have a single stemmed Triple Sunshine plant that’s approximately 10’ tall within 2’ of my cucumbers that are infected, and the leaves are completely clean on that plant. Some of the leaves are touching the cucumber leaves even. I’ve had to re-route the cucumber when the tendrils and branches try to climb up on the cannabis plant and it’s still clean (as far as my eyes can tell at least).
cucumber leaf w/ mildew
Triple Sunshine leaves next to mildew infested cucumber leaves.
That’s cool, dogs seem to be much more interesting and show more personality in packs as well. Hopefully that works out!
Yeah, I’ll leave it for now. One of the areas on a smaller plant had me wondering - but it still really doesn’t look quite like PM when inspected up close. I’ll go with both of your diagnosis, especially since JoeCrowe has a ton more experience dealing with that organism than I do.
Plant in question
Still awesome shots… What a great tool to have. Very cool! Does that happen a lot with other plants susceptible to PM? Was wondering if a false positive for PM may have something to do with the reported success rate of things like Neem oil. Any time we ever tried applying neem to Dahlias or Cucurbits (Cuke/Zuchini mostly) the PM always became visible and active again within a week it seemed.
More shots because these plants just keep catching my eye
TK x Triple Sunshine is really popping in person lately. Interested to see if it actually amounts to anything worthwhile.

5150 x TK #1 in soil
Oh, yeah, that’s right. I forgot you mentioned a while back that PM was sorta “host-specific” or whatever.
I don’t like this “new look” OG haha…
oooo Yah it happens ALL the time! That’s why I insist on positive identification of the parasite in question. This one time in the mildew free test patch, I saw what looked like mildew growing on some squash plants. Turned out to be cladosprorium instead. I used to have mildew on the dahlias. I threw those plants out and a few years later bought new ones and planted them. They were mildew free and the colony had been extincted from a lack of dahlia host plant over a couple year period.
For a second there I was worried this story was going in a completely different direction
Hell yeah to proper identification though. And starving out those fuckers. Be trying to do that on some bugs here
Don’t worry, that story is just as RAGE inducing as any of the mildew ones. When I tell people the biohazard patch and the non-infested patch are 6 meters apart… apparently that story, is super offensive where people don’t even want to talk to me afterwards. Probably because I howl in laughter when they give me “google search” results as a rebuttal.
I just want to state for the record that although I despise memes and think they’re one of the laziest forms of communication, HolyAngel is the only person who’s ever made me audibly chuckle (twice!) with those fucking things; first with the “Narcos/waiting on trichomes to finish” one and now with that “This one time at band camp/mildew patch” thing haha…
Also, I believe you, @JoeCrowe haha. People would rather be “right” via Google than listen to somebody who’s actually seen something happen with their own eyes.
It’s going to take a while to get used to for me too, seems more mobile focused to me. The site only lets me upload 1 picture at a time now which kind of sucks for my usual photo dump posts.
I’ve completely given up caring about the candy striped leaf hoppers here. Not bringing any of the plants back inside or making seeds so it’s not like I’m taking risks anyways…
Seems to be a common perspective in the gardening realm - I still don’t get why people get so sensitive about the things they do…
You’re really missing out on all the memes in the b thread lately.
Culled a few plants outside today to make sure I’m at an acceptable plant count. TK S1 #5 or whatever it was numbered got chopped and a few other things. I also pruned and moved the last remaining LAV JACK into direct sun near the Van / TK / TS.
Lav Jack (NN) on the left.
and the Triple Sunshine at sunset last night - looks huge in person. Smell is becoming pretty strong now on everything.
Did you see that they did any damage? When I could grow outdoors, I always thought they were cool. Never saw them do anything, and reckoned they were all psychedelic looking because they were stoned… like I was
Love peeking in your garden, we have a lot of the same plants, and you have a lot I wish I could have, lol!
My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that they are a common vector for spreading viruses. That was my main concern just due to the abundance of them, but since I’m not bringing the plants in, revegging, or making seeds it really doesn’t matter if they do become infected.
Testing image filesize limit / resolution limit / compression
13.4 MB JPEG large* picture - 6016 x 4016
Looks like site resized it and compressed it to 1920 x 1282 - 140 KB
I’ve seen multiple people complaining about that already, but I’ve actually always uploaded only one photo at a time haha. The first time I tried to do, like, thirty pics at once, it seemed to take forever, felt like it was actually faster to do one at a time. Whether or not that’s true, I dunno, but yeah, that doesn’t bother me.
That does bother me, though haha. I don’t use my phone for shit except calls and texts. I really think we ought to be encouraging people to stare at their phones less, not more.
Lemme guess. CocoCoir? Haha…
Man the TS is beastly. Bamboo is probably the only thing that could outgrow it.
Loving the photos. Those brandywines are looking tasty!
How are you enjoying your first outdoor season so far brotha?
Just found this out this morning when I went to add all my photos.
It almost has the feeling of sitting on a multi-decade plane ride in-between two sumo wrestlers and finally they both get up to leave. It’s cool to let plants get significantly larger than I can in my indoor setup. Walking both around and under them is really cool too. Neighbors have seen them and it’s nice to not have to be paranoid about the smell.
As far as the actual “craft flower” part of growing, I’m not really interested in it. I’m much more excited about trying my coco plants this run. I’ll take the shepherd hair over all the bird crap, bugs, and other contaminants that end up on the flowers outdoors haha.
For me, I name the files things like TK_x_TS_1 , TK_x_TS_2 , TK_x_TS_3 and drag all into the post at once per plant. Doing it 20+ times is just going to get annoying. I’m sure it will get fixed with time if enough people find it annoying.
It is pretty remarkable how much that thread has dropped in quality over the past year… If only someone was still in there shouting at people that they should be growing plants on overgrow !
Random guess, but it seems like images have taken a hit. I think they were chunking up the hard drive space. Each image is scaled when it’s uploaded, reducing the size of storage considerably.
Hahaha… Yeah, that’s something I never really considered re outdoor growing, but I still wanna do it at some point, eventually. Have you considered washing once (if) you chop? That’d probably be a good idea. I did it once, the first time I got aphids. It was a total pain in the ass, but I don’t think the smoke was affected by it.
I don’t know what this means haha. I think I do the same thing, labeling every pic, but I don’t know that they’re “files.” They’re just the pics I take. Are those files?
In any event, yeah, I’ve always done one at a time, but I use a desktop when it’s time to post pics; maybe that makes it easier or faster or whatever, I dunno. I still do not like this new version of OG at all, though.
My girl always laughs at me when I’m like,”What the fuck is the problem with my phone?” or,”What the fuck is wrong with this computer?” and she’ll look at it for a second and be like,”Oh my gawd! You’re still on OSX version nine!” or whatever that shit is called. I don’t know what version is The Best. All’s I know is every time I update any software, it’s worse than it was before. So I don’t do it until I absolutely have to.
I’m passing that torch to you. You can be that guy! haha.
I actually did go back and scroll through that thread a month or two ago and there were soooooo many things I wanted to comment on, but I made my decision and I’m sticking to it. No more. Too many dickheads. Not interested. Or not that interested, anyway haha…
I would LOVE to have some outdoor plants.
I washed my second to last harvest indoors for the first time due to those whiteflys and the bud wasn’t affected at all. Almost think it came out better I’m probably gonna have to setup a 55 gallon trash can to wash the mamilk f3
Can’t imagine having to wash a 10ft(+/-) plant though…
