- syzygy's journal - the clown show

I don’t interpret it as a hater presence - it’s hard to explain my position without it coming across the wrong way. I’m not paying the bills here and I think there would no second guessing myself or feeling of guilt for submitting pictures if I did a local log instead basically.

I’ve already started and committed to finishing the CSI / TK log, so I will see it through to the end. I like interacting with other growers but my primary reason for the picture uploads is actually my own logging purposes. When I post similar pictures a few times a week I’m doing it for myself - I realize it isn’t interesting for others on a day-to-day basis. I did this kind of logging for decades prior to legalization and wasn’t even posting the pictures anywhere - strictly for my own purposes.

What I get out of it is storing my reduced quality (but good enough) pictures on a server and interacting with other like-minded people. It’s a bit less effort as no organization is required, I just post and then delete the pictures locally. What I imagined the site got out of it was relevant content that drives engagement on their platform.

I used to brush some of my issues off as just cliquey behavior from people who don’t have anything interesting to contribute other than RNG giveaways and reputation farming Hello/Goodbye posts. Lately I get the impression that the official desired use of the platform is just that : meaningless “reproduction” after “reproduction”, memes, and Good Morning / Good Night posts. I understand that the seed boxes fund the site - but on the other hand a site with no content isn’t exactly worth the server space and bandwidth either.

So ya if anything it’s my own personal objections driving the thought process rather than individual opinions.

Yea, interested to see what you find there. A few of my TK S1s were runts, and one was an extreme runt. Saw you had similar issues with yours… The #2 pheno that I’m flowering out now looks really nice and seems like it’s going to make it all worth it.

You dropped this :crown:

Yeah i feel ya bro. It is actually hard to sieve thru the threads and find something worth reading…

Yeah quite a few runts but its expected… i heard Caleb mentioned a few times on podcasts about this being common on s1s… but its nice that he hooks up with an additional pack on most orders…

Did u end up flowering the runty phenos? I got 5 of them here lol

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too. I got an extra pack and so I wasn’t even annoyed.

My extreme runt did start flowering but I culled it to stay within my permissible plant count.

The TK S1 #1 runt didn’t root and so I only have it in mom form right now. It has a bit of weird chlorosis going on resembling what others encountered from their TK beans via CSI. Thinking about just culling it in case it’s some kind of seedborne virus. I think there was speculation it could be some kind of mosaic virus (not necessarily TMV). Lack of vigor isn’t exactly a good sign there either.

Don’t know what that means but I’ve always done almost daily updates locally over the years…

It’s okay bro it means you are a king for calling it how it is. I’m just giving you the praise ! Being called king now a days is empowering and it’s a great compliment. I like your work definitely some of the best stuff I see in the internet. To be completely honest your pictures and logs are my current goals. Motivational I would say.

So I see a clump of those leafhopper things in that first pic (kinda gross haha), a caterpillar in the second and then a pic of the Vanilluna f2 in the third. Are all of those things related? What do you think? Is it maybe the “inbred-ness” of that line making her susceptible to pests and stuff?

I really hope that that one works out for you and makes it to the finish line. That’s the smoke I’m most interested in hearing about from this particular grow.

Wait, what? Where? Who? What’s going on? Haha…

Wow, that’s definitely a mutie! Got those deformed leaves to it.

No just was dumping pictures off the sd card.

I see the leaf hoppers on pretty much every plant but I think there is something to that. It’s definitely not as robust as say the Triple Sunshine.

Yeah, that’s a Vanilluna Fgen (don’t remember specifically). I made a lot of fgen chucks using a heavily mutated Vanilluna male whatever year they were released from Seedboutique (06, 08?). That seedling I think is a Vanilluna F2 mutant backcrossed to the Vanilluna F1 mutant dad. Possibly just an F3 too… Lost my hard drive and notes around 2012. I had 2 seed vials from that batch “mutant and non mutant”.

Vanilluna was one of Dj Short’s lines that was known for a high variegation and mutant ratio. Blueberry “Sativa” x Blueberry “Indica” were the genetics. There’s a bit of speculation about the cause of it, but I’ve never seen it spread from one plant to another throughout the years. DJ & people on icmag seemed to think they were incredibly desirable but I haven’t seen that play out with my mutant plants - they are kind of cool from a novelty perspective though.

Also some dog pictures off my SD card - got one of my favorite shots of my Dutch Shepherd last night…

Have you experimented with any insect pheromone traps yet? I wonder if that would help mitigate the populations or invite new insects to the party.

Man, you really got the photographic eye. Beautiful shot!

I’ve got a dj short genetics mutie as well. Chemdog templeflo. Thought that mutation looked familiar! This plant is over 150 days old with no sex expression.

Yeah, I remember reading that stuff way back, that whole,”The mutants, the mutants! Those are the ones you want!” shit. I’ve personally never really grown some kind of totally freakish plant. Some of them have looked weird in veg, but they always grew out of it.

That Vanilluna in those pics, though… Jesus… haha. That is definitely a mutant… But what if the smoke is the greatest thing you’ve ever experienced??? Highs heretofore unknown to mankind?!? Haha.

Maybe once a long time ago but I don’t think so. Definitely don’t know enough to speak intelligently about them. How about you, have you used them and if so for what? How effective were they? I think I’ve seen them advertised for household pests before and have also seen stuff like that @ biological suppliers (Evergreens I think).

I’m not too worried about any outdoor pests here - I’ll never need that quantity of cannabis to matter. I’m entertaining the idea of building a support system for 2-3 large plants but that’s about it haha.

Then again maybe I’ll change my mind after sampling some OD flower…

Thanks! It’s one of my favorite shots of her - she’s very difficult to get shots of as she’s less cooperative than the puppy. Tends to look away, twist her ears, or have poor posture because she’s unhappy about having to sit still while I walk away to take a shot.

Very cool! Sounds like a cross with some potency on it. Most of the DJ stuff that I’ve sampled has been on the weaker side. Flo always sounded good but never ordered it - always was a consideration though. Was always eyeing F13, Flo, Blue Moonshine and maybe one more of his less popular strains (grape krush or true blueberry , i forget)… I assume Temple Flo is an fgen of flo or something. I remember seeing the name on his hand written lineage / flow chart but don’t recall what it actually was.

Ha, ya mutants are fairly common in these seeds. I made the mistake of giving half my Van F2 and F3/IX seeds to a “breeder” on here who messaged me asking for some for a specific VN/Blue project.

Supposedly they were going to germinate them, grow them out, and potentially make seeds with or cross them. Of course nothing ever materialized from that. Not a big deal at the end of the day, I never send anything that would actually bother me to lose. Just another example of some of the upstanding members on this site.

Check strainly. Or discord. Maybe you can buy them back haha.

Haha, in all seriousness I doubt he’s selling them. They are worth less than normal seeds even (already worthless). ‘Who wants to buy some slow growing, mutated, no smell, low potency seeds from almost 20 years ago?!’

Here’s some TK shots from tonight

I haven’t used any before. It popped up in my head as to what would attract them, scent or pheromones. I think they could be a value add if they do work for most insects that like to eat your plants. I havent seen any specifics targeted phermones traps for specific insects.

I bet youll have an great system going when you get all the kinks all ironed out.
I go thru my stashes like a wildfire and need to perpetually harvest for my own sanity haha.

How do u always get the nice black background? Don you have a picture box? Pictures always look top notch, and them tks are looking :fire:

I use a flash to light the buds up and in order to be able to do that I underexpose the background. No photo box - I do have a black piece of fabric on the wall behind it but it’s not necessary. The shots would come out with the black background even if taken outdoors. This is done by shooting in manual mode and adjusting 3 settings

ISO - Basically higher value brightens the image at the cost of introducing noise / grain.

Aperture - Adjusts how much light enters the camera. Affects depth of field. Smaller aperture = more depth of field = less light but a larger area will remain in focus.

Shutter Speed - freeze action or demonstrate it via motion blur. Faster shutter speeds will reduce blur but like with Aperture allow less light (duration) to enter the camera.

Typically I try to keep ISO between 200 and 600 if using a flash, Aperture between 7 and 13 usually and Shutter Speed around 500 to reduce issues caused by shooting handheld. Usually I keep my flash power at 1/4 strength for battery life and just adjust the shutter speed to tweak the brightness.

Tent shots are trickier if a black background is your goal. It’s not my goal, but if it was I’d probably use a remote flash angled at the buds to keep the light from spilling over onto the mylar sides. Otherwise you usually end up with a visible background like this Triple Sunshine shot - taken with a speedlight flash in the hot shoe of the camera.
