- syzygy's journal - the clown show

haha! that would be awesome, i can picture it now!

Have you grown any Strawberry Milk crosses? I never see anyone grow those out… i think i only have one myself.

Those Twenty20 Pre98 Bubba S1s sound interesting too. I really like the flavor and smell of the FJ - Bubba Kush Berger cut, but it’s kinda leafy and not incredibly potent - would be cool to find something superior!

I get that. I mean, if you like that SSDD male, you like that SSDD male, nothin’ “wrong” with that haha.

And yeah, if you weren’t stoked about the straight Irene, I doubt that the 88G male is gonna “improve” her.

Odds are good that there won’t be any real difference between most of those 88G hybrids that you have (although the Iraq and Herer…), but I do find myself missing that weed whenever I don’t have jars of it.

What’s that? Just straight-up seeds from Laos? No hybridization or anything? I’d plant those.

Yeah, IggyPuffs posted some pics of his plants that were super-fasciated, totally bizarre-looking. I sent like six or so seeds to zephyr a while back for some Lemon Thai project that he was planning, but he’s clearly abandoned that idea haha. Still have a pack of those myself, but after seeing Iggy’s pics (and having issues with the five that I planted but never flowered), I’m not in any rush to plant more.

Or the Kush4 x Snow Lotus…

Hasn’t somebody been posting pics of one of those on the Bodhi Plant Guide thread recently? I feel like I’ve seen some there, but I could be mistaken haha.

I don’t have any of those seeds, so I haven’t looked. The Strawberry Milk name really grossed me out, even though I LOVED Strawberry Quik when I was a kid haha.

Anyway, it’s possible, @syzygy, that you’ve just found what you’re looking for and don’t need to explore other shit. There’s nothing “wrong” with that, either haha. Personally, I really enjoy growing lots of different stuff (in case y’all haven’t noticed haha). I like looking through genetics that differ big-time from one another and planting seeds that make me wonder,”Alright, who knows what the fuck is gonna happen here…?”

I just love growing! haha.

But if you know what you like, you know what you like, syzygy. It seems to me that you know what you like.

Oh that’s right! Totally forgot about that. Then yeah, the baba kush or something sounds good

I thought the same thing. Keeps me up too.

Beautiful day (Topanga x SM) - 2 females - 1 had botrytis

I forgot I also have the CSI stuff, including a freebie pack of Bubba S1s

I liked the plant and flower characteristics too. Zero intersex issues for me on that plant as well. If I had more space I probably would have kept it. The effects weren’t what I was expecting but that doesn’t mean it’s bad or even that I don’t like it. That said it didn’t seem special enough to keep running. I’ll eventually get the bubba itch again though, maybe sooner than later. My biggest complaint is the lack of stretch and need for a veg period. I appreciate plants that I can just throw into flower directly from rooted cutting the most.

For sure - I think out of all the 88 crosses I’ve had that I’m most disappointed I didn’t have a mom of the REJ.

Description

Genetics: Lao – Thai Cannabis Landrace
Sourcing: The Real Seed Company, Laos, Southeast Asia, 2022
Purpose: Ganja (seedless or lightly seeded buds)
Latitude: 20° N
Regional Harvest: Seed to harvest approx 5 to 6 months
Height: Up to 4 metres
Characteristics: Intense rich aromas; euphoric luminous high; Sativa-type architecture
Classification: C. sativa subsp. indica var. indica
Grow Type: Greenhouse or outdoors

A new accession of a cannabis landrace from the Bokeo region of northwest Laos, immediately east of the Mekong – a distinct type from our earlier ‘Bokeo’ offering, hence the new number.

Sourced from farmers in communities that emphatically do not have contacts with the kind of Asians or Westerners who might introduce modern hybrid seeds. Furthermore, fields and plots are far distant from any conceivable source of contamination, isolated by hundreds of kilometers of sparesly populated highlands and jungle.

In other words, we have every reason to believe that – as with all our accessions from Southeast Asia – these are seeds from absolutely pristine and authentic traditional ganja domesticates. Exploring these accessions now – not waiting for reports posted in online realms where ulterior motives are rife – is strongly advised.

Please note that currently even the best specialist and academic studies on ‘landraces’ and traditional cannabis cultures are produced by outsiders with little to no direct experience of these regions. ‘Armchair speculation based on armchair speculation’ is a very fair description of received wisdom in the West as regards the status of old-school ganja strains. For those of us who do know Laos first-hand and over decades, what comes across clearly in these publications and online forums is that authors do not grasp how the culture and economy of ganja cultivation works – or the practical implications for how, where, and by who fields are sown, when the issue at hand is these crops remaining unaffected by Western hybrids.

As ever on all our sites, prices should not be taken as necessarily indicating quality.

All tropical ganja is cultivated as a six month crop, seed to harvest. The ultra-long flowering tropical Sativa is a myth born in the indoor era.

I think he told me it was a freebie from RSC that came with his Congolese / Malawi order. He said he open pollinated it and it was a crazy vertical growing plant. Suggested the Malawi would be more manageable in a 13/11 from seed scenario. Mentioned having the Rasoli as well but all I have from him are the Laos (Bokeo) and Malawi.

New freebies with any order of any strain in any quantity:

12 seeds of Rasoli, a very large strain that produces among the most renowned charas in the Himalaya. Seeds tested c. 80% viability.

12 seeds of Bokeo, a ganja domesticate from the Mekong region of northern Laos. Seeds tested c. 40% viability, producing healthy plants with a delicate structure and heavily serrated leaflets.

As much as I dislike that male I think I’d actually rather grow those out than k4 x ssdd at this point.

Well I’m going to have an abundance of TK & TS flower to hold me over and allow me to explore stuff that I probably won’t like. I don’t want to waste the opportunity either though. That’s one reason I’m interested in growing the Malawi.

We all have the memory of goldfish haha. But ya I probably won’t do the baba kush either this run - I think when I grow them I want to pop at least 10 at a time and I don’t see myself wanting to do that until I’m seeking bubba genes specifically.

On another note while I was taking the dogs a friend stopped over and cut down all my plants outside leaving only the large stems. He was leaving and pulling into the street as I was coming back with the dogs and I could smell the flower in his car from 20’+ away haha… So thankful to have the threat of bringing in whiteflies and fungal diseases reduced. Situation where both parties are very happy with the outcome - I don’t have to spend an hour cutting stuff down and cleaning up now.

Malawi Gold

Description

Genetics: ‘Malawi Gold’ Nkhotakota Cannabis Landrace / Heirloom
Sourcing: Afropips, via collector community
Purpose: Ganja (bud)
Latitude: 13° S
Height: Up to 4 metres
Aroma: Floral, tangy, spicy, herbal
Characteristics: Vibrant, euphoric, and long-lasting high
Classification: Cannabis sativa subsp. indica var. indica
Grow Type: Greenhouse or outdoors

This is the original Afropips Malawi Gold heirloom, a classic tropical Sativa that’s renowned for its warm, postive, and euphoric high.

This Malawi Gold is a pristine heirloom that’s descended from a cannabis landrace collected in Malawi several decades ago. To the best of our knowledge, this line has never been outcrossed, which makes it increasingly rare in a world where nearly all so-called ‘landraces’ have been hit with modern hybrids.

This Malawi Gold line was maintained ex-situ for decades by Jim from Afropips, who used this pure Sativa to create some outstanding crosses such as Malberry, an F1 of Malawi Gold and the Dutch Passion Blueberry.

The seeds offered here are from a selected Malawi Gold line donated to The Real Seed Company by a generous collector.

The best Malawi cannabis landraces are equatorial Sativa-type plants renowned for their vibrant, euphoric high and unique flavours.

Historically, they’re most closely associated with the Nkhotakota region.

Traditionally, flowering tops are made into ‘Malawi cobs’ by wrapping them in corn husks for storage and curing.

According to the original Afropips description, ‘Malawi Gold is internationally renowned as one of the most potent psychoactive pure African Sativas. Afropips superior first grade Malawi Gold was selected from 10 years experience with top Malawi growers for the spiciest taste & the most psychoactive clean vibrant high. The high is long lasting & has an enjoyable alert mental clarity coupled with a warm pleasant feeling that radiates throughout the body. The unique tropical & luxuriant spicy Sativa up high can be attributed to the presence of THCV in this early cultivated strain.’

The historic photo shows a Malawi cob from the 1980s.

The field shots show plants from this accession at 40° N in mid July.

Oh, fuckin’ SWEET. Hell yeah you should grow at least one of those. Or both. I read and re-read those descriptions on the The Real Seed Company’s website all the time, just for fun haha, one of the reasons I wanna thin out my collection big-time. There’s a lot of stuff of theirs I wanna check out, but I can’t in good conscience buy any more seeds until I empty out my fridge.

I’d like to see you grow either of those out. I’ve read grow reports, but the people growing them couldn’t even type a coherent-fucking sentence, much rather read what you have to say about them.

I’ll throw a wrench in here no problem :pray:t2: hah on a selfish front, having just ordered a strawberry milk cross from doc d, I’d be curious about seeing more of those grown too. That dragon soul x strawberry milk stands out as something I’m curious about too.

If it’s not retrying the Beautiful Day, I’m honestly curious about the Gorilla Ghani. Because I’m messing with an OMG cross and because I was looking at docs gg4 x a5/Thai the other day. I know gg4 is supposed to be finicky but I do like the smoke quite a bit and haven’t had too many herm issues myself. I didn’t even know gg4 x omg was made, but I don’t follow gg4 news that closely so I’m not surprised. I think that would be an interesting one though. Probably pretty stinky.

I’m also partial to the Pinball Wizard and Snuggle funk. Black domina has stood out in my memory as something I wanted to try for so long that I forget the reason I put it there in the first place. I’ll be growing Pinball Wizard myself here soon enough so it’s funny timing that you brought it up at all. Gives me good vibes about that one.

I’m curious about Spirit Hashplant but would love to see you grow malawi or laos out, too. I have had a lot of fun with my malawi cross and know you’d probably grow something fun to look at. Very fun list. Thank you for sharing :metal:t2:

That one sounded like such a bizarre cross to me. I mean, I don’t know anything about breeding, but it just didn’t sound like it would go together at all. I wasn’t ever a fan of Gorilla Glue so maybe that’s why, I dunno, but it just sounded like two things that I would never cross.

If I were a breeder… haha.

Yeah, it’d be cool for y’all to be able to compare and contrast. I know I already said it, but the two I grew smoked real good. Tasted gross, smoked good haha.

About to process some pictures I took but figured I’d respond before I do that

Yeah that and I really feel like I should. I think he gave me the seeds back in February or something (not sure, I documented it here though)… He grew out a ton of clones that I gave him so it seems only right to try them out.

Well I’m not sure I can do any better on that front but at least I can take some pictures of them along the way… haha

I currently have 3 or 4 GG4 x SSDD and don’t realistically see myself ever growing that one. I remember GreenHighlander used to rave about a pheno of GG4 x OMG he found over on RIU and named it ‘koko’. No clue about his reference points though. My pine pheno of Space Monkey (gg4 x w15) was insanely good.

I was very close to trying that one out a few years ago. Schmarmpit’s grow log of that had me excited to try it. I went with k4 x SSDD, beautiful day and a few others instead on that grow. It’s definitely one I’d consider though.

Same, those have my interest as well for the time being.

Yeah, I saw you say you bought it. Would have just sent you a pack or 2 if I knew you were interested because I got them as freebies haha… If you ever see anything I’m holding that you’re interested in trying just let me know.

The 2 that I grew over the winter were good! I liked REJ more but honestly all the OG x 88 stuff I’ve grown has been satisfactory.

Seems like there’s a lot of interest in this one which is good because I feel like it’s my duty to try them out. I’ll probably do a couple and see if I can get a clone from my friend if he ends up with any females (he popped some recently).

Yeah maybe, but my train of thought is something like if I’m going to grow a “haze” then why not grow something like the Malawi instead. I know long flowering landraces are questionable though and it’s possible it would be a complete failure…

I have a week or 2 to think about this because this friend who gave the Malawi seeds wants to share some of his recent harvest (not Malawi) and seems interested in taking in some backup TK clones. Probably will happen sometime within a week or so. Once those TK backups are gone I should have some space to start some new seeds. Within a week or 2 the flowering tent should be done and I can move the current seedling/plants into that tent…

Going to process these pictures now and will be a big photo dump for some Week 10 (almost) shots.

Yeah, I remember that, too. Not from RIU, but just from his old posts here on OG. I figure anybody who keeps anything around for more than two grows, there’s gotta be something “special” about it. I could see that OMG male improving GG4, though.

Oh, for sure, dude! Let’s go deeper. Let’s go to the source (even though I’m pretty sure there was no Malawi in Original Haze or whatever). I don’t even think that those two Pinball Wizards were all that “hazy,” but I did like the way they made me feel. Very happy, very social, no raciness, no sleepiness…

But yeah, man, why not grow some straight Afropips Malawi Gold? Sounds great to me.

I’ll take some pics of the Malawi x DE that I’m growing and post them on the thread, maybe help you make your decision. I honestly haven’t been paying much attention to anything right now, but just at a glance I can kind of pick out those plants from everything else. I think they’re the ones in the back of the tent right now haha. They look vigorous! haha…

If you have a pack of snugglefunk I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised… both phenos I got were potential keepers IMO. Potent, good smell and flavor. Not huge yielding though. Effects are straight up euphoric/laughing at everything kinda weed & can be sedative if you are ready to sleep…

I think I might have a photo or two of them…

Yep, just if I’m going to grow a haze type / mentally stimulating plant why not grow one more likely to produce those effects (compared to SSH x W15 or Jack Herer x W15).

Going to repost these pictures in another thread or two

One of these things is not like the others… haha.

Gawddamn, though. Crazy how similar the rest of the stuff looks to one another. And it’s not like the TK x TS chuck looks “bad” or anything, but shit… She definitely does NOT look like the other plants.

They all look good, though! Plants look good! haha.

Me too! I had to pause. Was like “huh. Okay.” It made me really wonder how they’d mesh. I was close to getting it but ended up with the strawberry fog. I wanted something else to grab some extra Ethiopian x Columbian freebies. Oozles look really nice so far.

This is what made me want to do it so badly. Haha the way you described the taste. I’m a lemon fan. So I’m hoping to get those same things.

I keep seeing how flavorful some of those wookie crosses come out and I haven’t really dipped my toes into those yet. Of course they look good, too. That’s always nice.

That’s super nice of you. I appreciate it. Though it’s hard for me to picture a time where I come asking for free breeder packs. Hah you purchased something to get them so I still feel weird about making those asks. That being said, if you will never grow something, send it my way because I’ll grow out almost anything.

Your rej pictures are part of what made me sign up here. They were great. I have generally enjoyed the 88ghp crosses but now there really are so many. I was tempted by bodhi’s banana og/Hashplant cross but didn’t go for it or the freebie deal simply because I was looking away from hp for the time being.

Haha appreciate your service, soldier. I just like seeing good growers grow some of these unruly varieties indoors. I’m excited to give my preferred maze pheno more love than the one in its last 6-7 weeks. But I think you’d do it really well and it’s sad that not that many people complete logs start to finish on many of these longer flowering varieties. I think they’re a lot of fun.

Very nice shots. I’m pumped to get into the TS f2s you made. Thanks for sharing and giving us space to ramble

Edit: okay holy. That’s the fastest anything I’ve ever posted has been liked. You win. You’re the best :joy:

In person you can definitely see the TK in her. There is something about her that is slightly different for sure though. She actually resembles the 5150 x TK #3 quite a bit, but really she looks and smells substantially better.

Well in the pinball wizard & gg4 x OMG case I didn’t purchase them - they were freebies. Half of my seed list were freebies pretty much!

That’s kind of what my friend was getting at too. I’m not sure how well they would perform but I feel a bit more confident with the coco compared to a 1 GAL soil-less pot for one of the long flowering varieties. Willing to give it a shot at least…

The only long flowering strain I’ve grown in the past has been KaliMist from Serious Seeds. Had a few 120~ day phenos that I remember.

Oh wow that’s awesome. I signed up here when I saw @Vagabond_Windy and nube posting here - from reading their posts on RIU / breedbay i figured that it was ‘safe’. Now that we’re legal the paranoia isn’t there anymore thankfully.

I have high hopes for the TS F2s as well.

All I can smell now is TK after someone in the CSI thread was asking me about smells. It really does linger for quite some time haha…

Yeah they do. I musta missed that one, musta been after I quit buying seeds or something.

I mean, I only grew two, so… The day I chopped them I was really excited, just because they smelled super-spicy and “Hazy” (from what I’ve read, anyway), but yeah, after the dry and cure, they were sooooo fucking lemon-y.

Hopefully that’ll happen for you, too haha. Don’t get discouraged if they don’t smell lemon-y while they’re growing, because my couple plants definitely didn’t.

Yeah, dude, do it. If you were still growing in soil, you know, the concerns would be obvious, but now that you’ve switched, I don’t see any reason at all why you wouldn’t be able to pull off some long-flowering shit in a one-gallon pot.

Holy does it… haha.

Thanks for the kind words @InTheWoods - everything I do cannabis related is strictly hobby related, not attempting to monetize anything.

My friend told me something along the lines of “it just never finishes” . We’ll see, I’ll probably end up doing a few of them and seeing for myself.

Today at Day 70 I’m wondering if I should pull the Triple Sunshine tonight / tomorrow morning . Any thoughts?

Small stack attempts w/ flash

Here’s some TK x TS right next to the TK. From a distance they look very similar - though if you inspect them closely there are obvious differences…

Ive done 16 weekers in 3 gallons, they ended very hungry, but i guess i could have fertilized a bit more often… i think on coco or synthetics you success rate will be higher
