- syzygy's journal - the clown show

Was just adding the poll because I’m curious about who’s interested in what - without asking people to start posting (I’m OK with that too though!). I’m going to germinate some Malawi regardless of the votes because I told my friend that I would earlier in the year and recently as well. Not sure on what else gets germinated - that may get influenced by the poll since I’m kind of indecisive.

Nice!
I’m a sucker for SSH. Although I think you ran PW before.

Good to see you created an account over here! I still browse both riu/og but OG is definitely more active. I checked the post you responded to and I made an error in one of my comments back then about the TS-E being ssdd leaning - it was H that appeared SSDD leaning. E had more TK like vegetative growth. The TK x TS seeds I sent your way are with the TS-E male.

Also sampled some of the zkittles, lav jack and triangle a bit this week. Z tastes great and I smoked a whole bong of it without issue, meaning that it’s pretty weak. LJ was pretty similar but not as good tasting. TK tastes good (not as good as the Z) but 1 medium sized bong hit was stronger than the whole bong of the Z bagseed.

Got some pre-harvest trichome pictures taken. Heading to check out and explore some ledges w/ the pups here soon. Have you been to any of them in the area (not nelsons) @DirtySlowToes ? Hoping no-ones there on a weekday so I can off leash the dogs and try to get some pictures of them. Will get the plant shots hopefully when I get home later today.

I go to Virginia Kendall all the time! Evenings are far more crowded than mornings and weekends more than weekdays obviously. Mondays can be a little hit or miss depending on people’s weird work schedules and the odd day off for various jobs, but it’s not too bad over there. The cold deters some folks too. I go to whipps sometimes too. I’d think whipps would probably be a little less crowded. Brecksville reservation is probably another good spot. I only went over there once early summer but I enjoy it a lot.

Only one out of that list that I’ve been to is Whipps, and ya during weekdays it seems fairly inactive. I have been to the Brandywine/Boston mills area when I was a kid but not since, that looks to be the same general area… My sister has been encouraging me to check out Wordens ledges which is apparently down the street from Whipps. On google maps I’ve been eyeing the Brecksville reservation and that’s what I was wondering about. It’s a bit more of a drive for me but if it’s a cool spot seems worth checking out.

I definitely think it’s worth a trip! Sorry I didn’t get a chance to reply earlier. I was on the move and just got to a place to sit down. Hope it was a good day anyway :metal:t2:

Chunky chunky round. Looking really good. I know I have already learned this, but you hand water those little pots, right? Just once a day or multiple times?

You’re making me want to try coco with jacks again like my first grow. They just grow so nice.

I’ve been meaning to ask about your organic soil mix you use. Have you shared it here?

Dogs look like they had a blast too. Really nice scenery.

No problem - appreciate the perspective. Will try to find my way out there sometime before the weather turns… Only 1 other person was at Whipps today when I got there so just settled on that spot.

Sometimes not even once a day, usually every other day or every 3 days it seems. I hand water yes. I think if the plants were bigger relative to pot-size then obviously I’d have to water them more, but how they are sized it seems to work out well. They’d probably look a lot better on an automated schedule but that isn’t in the cards haha.

They really do. I like how I can just use the same feed from seedling to harvest without changing stuff up or messing around with additives. It’s also much cheaper than organics (non-recycled) and space efficient so I’m sticking with it.

I’d say it’s a mix of various recipes I’ve seen back on ICmag such as the LC mix and 3 little birds or whatever it was. Ever since I went to small pots I got sick of worrying about really high quality inputs (compost source) and just started using a pro-mix type of peat-lite mix. I’ve also been using just some cheap mass produced worm castings these past few years. Amendments I change often but pretty much all of the recipes that I’ve tried over the years have seemed satisfactory for the most part. Some seem to end up with deficiencies mid-late flower.

Using a 1 GAL scoop / container yields 5 gallons at a time.

3 Parts Peat-Lite (promix is fine)
1 Part Rice Hulls
1 Part Worm castings

I think if I were to stick with organics (if I had the space) I’d do more experiments using pine bark fines and leaf compost rather than a peat based medium. It’s a viable alternative, I just don’t have ratios tested and figured out for controlled environment setups w/ artificial lights. Outdoors and greenhouses I really don’t see any reason to use peatmoss.

For food I change it up often - doesn’t seem to make a big difference. Having a diverse set of inputs to cover bases seems to be a good approach. My plants seem to look the healthiest when I’m using comfrey, but that may be my imagination.

Most dry “meal” amendments I’m doing about 1 TBS / GAL. I know the whole composting or “cooking” phase is controversial but I feel like things seem to work better if the soil has been sitting covered and properly aerated @ ‘field capacity’.

Thanks!

This is the best stuff right here just takes so long to break down and make and sadly here in the desert we don’t get tons of leafs from trees where I’m at when I go up north hiking and for trips I bring trash bags to fill with leafs :joy:

On a break and have enough time to upload the pictures from this morning. Everything has been cut down so this concludes the current grow… Everything smells good but the TK x TS has a very intense smell to it that stood out more than everything. Looked underneath everything that I cut down and I didn’t see any nanners. Did see at least 1-2 immature seeds starting. Not sure where that pollen came from but I didn’t notice anything on any of the plants. There were those massive light leaks a few weeks back so I’m not completely surprised if something freaked out about that.

Squeezed some enormous bract/calyxes that I assumed must have been holding seeds and they were empty - seems like these genetics just produce oversized bracts / calyxes.

I still have some of my seed supplies out from sending someone on RIU some seeds, so if anyone is interested in trying out some TK x TS or TS F2s let me know. There’s only a limited supply of both but figured I’d offer some out again in case anyone who wanted to try them missed out.

My tiny TS f2 has such an amazing smell to her. I eventually want to run a bunch of them.

Thanks for your generosity!

Nice! Always good to hear. I’m surprised more people weren’t interested in them but I did make them for myself so I don’t really care one way or another. I’ll keep offering them out as long as I have flips / stamps on hand. Neither can be remade and since the TS is so limited it’s unlikely anyone else is going to be F2ing that one, hope if someone has a pack of TS they do though…

The TK x TS has the most intense penetrating smell to it out of everything I think. Largest buds with a very nice calyx to leaf ratio too. These were TK x TS E/H seeds so I’m hoping that plant could be traced back to pollen from the TS-E haha… I want to pop a handful of these at some point in the near future because of how impressed I am with the flower (unless it’s awful smoke - unlikely but possible).

The TS and TK moms both smell great as well. TK S1 and 5150 TK x TK #1 are desirable too… So many good smells! I’d say the TK x TS has a sharper , sweeter, almost mango solvent smell component that is more intense than anything else. Still has the base TK / TS type of smells too, just there’s an overwhelming quality to it.

The TK x TS is my favorite right now for high and flavor out of the volcano. I’m hoping to reproduce it with these last seeds I started :pray:t3: Thanks again for making these and sharing 🫶🏼

You and one other person on this site were the only ones to get any TK x TS E/H - all of the rest were made with just the TS-E more recently. The female from this run was the only female out of the 4 remaining seeds I kept for myself from that batch. No clue which is better, just worth pointing out. Awesome to hear that the one you tried was good and hope you have a successful reproduction! If you need more TS / TKxTSe beans for the efforts you can always reach out.

I actually had 3 girls, 2 TK leaning the other definitely ssdd leaning, but the stank on all of them was out of this world good and the two TK leaners have a serious mouth coating of that dank piney kushiness

Edit: if I don’t find a good couple to mate I may hit you up for a few more of the TK/TS, I still have more of the TS and SSDD/TS I want to look through also. Thanks for your generosity 🫶🏼

That’s awesome. Wondering if the SSDD leaners are coming from the (assumed) ssdd looking TS-H. I’d say my 1 female looks really close to the TK in person - but not exact. Definitely doesn’t look or smell like any SSDD that I went through. Interested to see how they hold up through dry / cure…

Good info, thanks! You’re not the first person I’ve read run into issues w/ the Field Trip. Still not sure if any of mine are even female yet. I think I confirmed at least one SSDD female so far…

Also @syzygy keep a eye out for intersex on the field trip while it was only a few pods I’ve found there was a few seeds found while trimming but also be due to my tent needing a upgrade is a few years old and starting to have more pin light leaks overall for being a cookies cross its potency is up pretty solid for sure more a night time strain makes me a bit sleepy running a few clones of field trip mom outdoors and see if there’s any intersex with it outdoors
