Thc/cbd for dogs?

Just make some homemade gummies with CBD rso Harle/Tsu 60/40 indica CBD works well and so does Sour Tsunami sativa rso. half a ML makes 75/ 5-6 MG and then cut them in 1/4’s so 1.25 MG of CBD is ok for a dog and you can even cut that 1/4 in half for even smaller dogs. CBD is not going to hurt your animal. If you are uncomfortable talk to your vet beforehand. You can find my recipe on my Outdoor Gauntlet thread. :peace_symbol:

I do not believe in getting a dog/cat/human high,( with out them knowing) in any manner. I love dogs and cats.
This tale started over 10 years ago now.
My wife’s nephew’s family, has a Chihuahua, right after he came to their home, they saw he had tremors, and the doggie doc tells them he has epilepsy, and he needed phenol barbital to control them.
In a few weeks, his personality started to change, he developed a food bowl aggression. Like off the hook, so bad, if he heard movement in the living room, and he was in the kitchen, he would run to the bowl, and guard it, snarling and snapping.
If their son, would come into the living room, the dog would instantly, start a low growl, and run to leave the room instantly, and let every one know he was pissed about it.
5-6 years go by, the tremors come back. Doggie doc, tells him, look man, there is no easy way to say this, the dog is not responding to the PB, we can only increase it. This will start going into the toxic side for his body, and in time, the meds will take him out.
In desperation, nephew came to me, as I had helped him find some sleep, with a cannabis extraction, a few years earlier.
I got on line and searched wildly for information about dog physiology. I found an article about a guy with a kennel, trying to helps some dogs using whole plant cannabis extracts to help his dogs with an issue that is hereditary.
I decided to make a extract with vegetable glycerin, as it’s in many canine products already.
I used 10 grams of buds from a hermi plant. It had a some trichomes but was culled early, maybe at 6 weeks of flower.
I put the jar in a crack pot of water, and for 2 weeks every 4 hours, I’d go shake the jar like wild. Crock pot was on a timer for 4 hours run 4 hours off.
Strained it, and tasted it.
I got this beautiful emerald green sort of thick, super delicious, extract. A tablespoon and I felt nothing.
Nephew came over, I told him what I did, how, the why’s, and asked him the dogs last weight, 7 pounds.
We decided to dose him, 3 drops in the AM feed, monitor, if all seems well, 3 drops PM in his food bowl.
It took 3 days, when I got a call, HOLY SHIT, his tremors stopped, BUT he is still on the PB.
We can not just stop the PB, according to doggie doc, after consulting him.
Nephew, started to decrease the PB, but we added a drop to each meal. 4 in the AM, 4 in the PM. We watch for about 3 weeks, each week dropping the PB.
Then the PB was stopped, at 4 droops, we still saw a few tremors, and talked to doggie doc again.
He could not say anything about cannabis, we spoke of the drops, he was of the mind to simply increase the drops, until we see the tremors stop.
In about a month, we had increased to 7 drops AM, 7 drops PM. OR if they saw tremors between them give him a few drops. Dog LOVED…LOVED the drops!!!
So, I did not hear from them for about 3 months, so I text asking.
Dog is tremor free!! No PB refills, and pills chucked out!
I asked about seeing any side effects. Can I come over?
He came over to talk. Damn, he was all grim and shit, and I thought, fuck, what did do, what did I miss! I’m freaking out internally as we are talking.
Nephew, had tears in his eyes, and said, the side effects are HUGE man!
We can not believe it, how different dog is now!
Again, in my head, I’m screaming, at myself, what the fuck did you do!!
Nephew, tells me, dogs food bowl aggression has ended!
He could care less if their son was close, or even taking food out of it, as the dog eats!! Nephew said, it’s the most amazing switch we could dreamed of!!
Next issue change, the dog started to stay where he is at, when the son comes in the room!
Then nephew showed me photos, of the dog sleeping with the son!! A dream of his, a want that could not happen…before the drops! Hell I had tears in my eyes by now.
I’m thrilled to say the dog lived to the ripe old age of 14 when he passed away in his sleep, with his family that loved him fiercely.
Doggie doc, and I talked once, and he told me, he never gave our drops a chance in a hell, but has reevaluated his stance with cannabis and canines.

My oldest puppy, the momma, doesn’t, but her two daughters are unapologetic stoners. They will eat weed in a cold New York minute if they can snatch it. I’ve read dogs have higher counts of cannabinoid receptors than humans, and typically my pups aren’t exposed to edibles, but what would typically amount to a stray bong-hit worth of weed, (not-decarboxylated) fallen off a tray, seems to make them high AF and they seem to like it.

To clarify - If I can prevent it, I do not allow them to, nor do I feed it to them on purpose. But it does happen occasionally and they try to maximize their opportunities to snatch a bud if not watched carefully.

CCL ligament? (same as a humans ACL)?? My pup had that done last summer with 2 x 150lb nylon test lines replacing the ligament. Amazing recovery!

ok… THAT really IS the Cone of Shame!

Agreed. I imagine that to be like a bad trip for humans, they have no clue whats going on.

That being said, I’ve had dogs all my life. Some DO like it, some don’t like it. In college, I had a boxer who would follow the bowl from person to person, and even did bong hits (I have witnesses!). By the same token, it was NEVER to be treated as a “Party Trick”. If the dog didn’t want it, you didn’t force it or YOU were leaving. There were times that Nero wanted to smoke, and times he had no interest. He would let you know when you exhaled if he wanted to or not. No “Blowing smoke in the ear” or grabbing the pups snout to blow into it. He had to choose it, ie he had to come and inhale on his own (and he did plenty of times). I’ve also had dogs with zero interest, and one that sneezed everytime he even smelled smoke in the room. No forcing them, or you would be leaving (my pups are my kids).

I now wonder if Nero benefitted from the smoke, because in the end he passed from a super long seizure. We had been working with the vet for 1.5 years, thinking (hoping) it was epilepsy and not a brain tumor, treating with PB for epilepsy (didn’t have the money for an MRI to detect a brain tumor). But that dog LOVED to smoke. I never had another who would chase the bowl around for your exhaled smoke, and I mean go person to person following it.

Current pup, Loki, has no interest at all. And thats just fine too…

One of my ex’s dogs loved weed, and the other hated it. I never had to try to give it to them, since I was just smoking around them all the time when she left them with me; the male turned his head away every time I lit a bowl, jumped off my lap if he was in it, and generally tried to avoid it after one time curiously sniffing at it. Later found out that he has (or possibly had, they docs didn’t expect him to last long) a heart murmur and a leaky valve, which I doubt she can afford the meds for now that I’m no longer paying for them. Possibly it’s not surprising that he wouldn’t enjoy a stimulant that speeds up his heart rate. The female chased me around when I had a bowl, or especially a vape pen, in my hand. She wasn’t as much of a fan of the bowl, but either way the moment I started puffing on one she’d jump up on my lap and put her face right in mine. If I didn’t exhale it to her quick enough, she’d start trying to lick the inside of my mouth to get at it. She had a bad back; when we first found out, the docs said she’d need pain meds to manage it soon or she’d end up practically disabled. Six years later, she was still jumping up in my lap and trying to inhale everything I smoked, with no other meds. Pretty sure they can tell whether it helps them or not. :stuck_out_tongue:

My dog will be eleven in December, I’ve been giving him CBD for about a year now. I started him on CBD when it looked like he might need a script for Rimadyl, it’s been effective enough to hold off on that. CBDfx makes some pretty good treats for the price, not a bad way to test them out on it. I get a 2400mg bottle of Lazarus Naturals for $45, that lasts 3 months for a 70lb dog.

I fostered dogs for several years, many of them had never been in a loving home before. There was one pitbull who clearly had, she acted like everyone she saw was a friend she hadn’t met yet. The rare foster who seemed to have never had a negative experience with people. Shortly after getting her home, I started to take some bong hits. After I exhale, she starts barking at me, head tilting, fake sneezing, the whole nine yards. Took another one and blew it her way, the silence confirmed that was what she wanted. She was right there waiting for it every time I smoked. If any buds were ever left in her reach, she would gobble them up.
