Jeeee-zus!
What a fucking update!
Really nice work with the micro grow, like the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel on a post stamp.
I’m loving the range of colors that are coming out too.
I also really dig the micro terp reports… I’ll be looking forward to hearing more.
I know a lot of people ask if they can hang around, but I’m just going to do it. Is there any Sunny D in the fridge?

Yep! Most have been vegging since 2022.

2x Manitoba Poison
1x Delicatessen’s Queen Mother Sativa
1x UK Cheese
2x Mashmakhan (AKA: “Florida Ditch Weed”; i have 4x but one is 100% male the others I’m waiting)
1x Buddha’s Cane S1
2x Texada Timewarp

That’s my limit so done and done.

Hows your roof coming along this year?

Omggg I haven’t friend Sunny D in over 20 yrs I think. Wtf! Now I’m craving it haha

Haha nice!

Great list! Always wanted to grow that Texada Timewarp. I’ll be tuning in for sure.

Rooftop is getting locked and loaded next wk. I’m popping my first round of autos like, tmrw. My photoperiods will be popped on June 1st this year to help keep plants at a more manageable level. I don’t think my marriage can survive another summer of giant trees!! Lol

I don’t even know why it popped into my head!:rofl:
I haven’t had it in at least a long as you!
Edit: Sunny D Group buy? We can get a case

I have a feeling it’s not going to live up to its reputation, like most things you loved when you were a kid and try again when you’re an adult… Like those insanely sour balls we used to eat back in the 90s. Had one of those at Halloween last year and it blew my lid lol

I’ll just watch the old commercials on YouTube

Time to update y’all on the seed making project. I did deal with some slight pest pressure and what I believe to be a soil food imbalance.

I let the plants go for 10 weeks total in order to let any potential seeds develop. Plants looked rough in the last few weeks with a lot of narcotic leaves and browning but I didn’t care. My goal with this grow from the start was to get seeds, whatever I could smoke at the end was a bonus. I have back ups of most of the plants (lost a few) and more seeds of everything so I’m not too concerned.

I really do need to get my soil tested though before I do another run with it. This is where I feel the biggest road block to growing successfully run after run with organic soil. I tried the Build a Soil method with top dressing the craft blend and other dry nutrients, terminating cover crop and earth worm castings but it doesn’t seem to be working out for me quite yet. I’m thinking of either switching back to coco when I do the 2 gallon pots/Sea of Green method or buying a large bed and just running a no till set up. Something needs to change.

Anyway, here are some pics of the plant nearing the end. These were taken maybe a week before chop.

This is the GMO x Obama:

Here’s the tallest pheno of GMO x Obama

Here she is with one of the G Fume plants in the back:

Here are some shots of the plants at chop. Looking rough!

Now for the good news.

I GOT SOME SEEDS!!

Just a few from each plant but that’s all I needed and I’m chalking this one up to a success. I’m pretty sure I’ll find a few more when I start breaking the buds up to sample them. I’ll look forward to popping these Lemon Jeffrey crosses this fall!

The buds have been dried and trimmed and are in jars. Not looking too terrible tbh and most are smokeable. Terps are slightly muted I think but still stinky.

One G Fume is pure fruit and pine with some gas and earthiness in the background. It’s a really nice smell. The other is similar but has more of a funky, mushroom thing going on.

The Headband x Chem D are varying. 2 are Chem D dominant with those fart gas terps. The other two have that in the background but are a bit fruit/sour forward.

The GMO x Obama jars are my favourites tbh. It’s got that funky, fart has terp but like it’s layered more with other delightful fruit, Kush, earth, mushroom, vanilla smells.

Here’s some bud shots:

They’re all very complex. I know these terps could be louder and when I do run these clones I’ll do so in coco this fall when the indoor temps aren’t insane. Thinking of keeping these clones outside to veg for June and then taking a bunch of clones.

Thanks all!

It’s now time to start thinking about the outdoor grow. I’m stoked!! It’s time to wake these pots up, although it looks like my cover crop from last year is thriving in a few of these beds, which is great news.

I chopped up all the growth and will re-amend the pots as best as I know how without a soil test, following Jeremy from Build a Soil. He suggests a cover crop, chopped and dropped, 2-4 cups of Craft Blend per cubic foot (approx 7.5 gal) of soil and all that covered with 2 inches or so of earth worm castings.

Last year I leaned towards the 2 cups per cubic foot and had some deficiencies so I will lean towards the heavier side when re-amending this year. I need to actually remove some soil from my 30 gallon pots because I couldn’t fit a re-amendment if I wanted to! These are No-Till pots and this will be my 3rd season growing in them. I’ll need to be careful about removing the top 4-6 inches or so and try not to disturb the bottom soil. For now the cover crop has been chopped and will sit for a little while until my Black Swallow amendment order arrives in a few days. I’ll make my “Craft Blend” using the same recipe from B-A-S but with locally sourced amendments from Black Swallow living soils.

There are few fun things I want to try this year, like trying to gather my own IMO (indigenous micro organisms) and making a few fun ferments. Over the winter I read the JADAM book and will try to incorporate a few techniques along with some KNF (Korean Natural Farming). These are not the same thing but it is common for gardeners to combine methods.

This excellent youtube video is a great resource I found if you want to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guOeRELLdTY&list=PLW1AC9CrSXqqb0m3kBobyBBhq0O1CRFWm&index=9

I’m not entirely set on what photoperiods I will be growing this summer but have the Auto’s figured out! I might try to do two rounds again because they are super easy to manage. For the first round I’m going with all Mephisto Genetics:

2 x Sour Stomper
2 x Mephisto’s Wedding
2 x Skywalker

I’m pretty excited about all of those strains!! Hopefully I can do them justice.

The Auto’s will be popped in the next few days to get them outside for June 1st. The photos are taking a back seat this year and will be popped in early to mid June, vegged for 4 wks indoors and planted outside in early July. This is to help keep the plants a little more manageable. The last few years I grew some absolute trees that were a nightmare to deal with, dry and cure. I’m trying to grow within my means and not only that, I don’t think my marriage can handle another summer of monster plants

Here’s what I’m thinking for the Photos:

  • Three Queens (CSI)
  • Mendo Purps x Zkittlez (CSI)
  • CBD #1 (Ace Seeds)
  • Orange Gasm (Irie Genetics)
  • Orange Sherbert (Barney’s Farm)

Outdoor season is upon us!

My auto line up of:
2x Sour Stomper
2x Skywalker
2x Mephisto’s Wedding

Has been growing for 3 weeks in 1 gallon pots on a soaker mat in my grow tent. I’m trying to figure out the best way to approach autos and have had great results with this method last year. The fabric pots are bottomless so when they’re ready to transplant I simply clear a circle on my outdoor pots a few inches deep and stick them on top. I’ve heard about auto growers who start them out in smaller pots and up pot as they go at strategic times… it’s a real art with these autos and I’m still trying to figure it out.

Here they are in the tent, the Sour Stomper’s were the slowest and oldest seeds… not sure if that has anything to do with it though.

Here they are soaking up the sunshine!

Before planting outside I needed to set up my Blumats system. Some ppl hate this thing but it has worked well for me and my particular situation in the past two seasons. I also learned this new method of dialing them in called “Cap Dialing”. Instead of dialing them in per manufacturers instructions you dial them in based on the pressure coming in from the water supply. This way ensures that every cap will be dialed in exactly the same and not only that, will correspond better with the incoming pressure from the hose. My Blumats are hooked up to my garden hose through a carbon filer which then flows through a pressure reducer. Once the water supply is hooked up and turned on, it flows through a Blumats shut off valve, which makes turning the water off up on my roof much easier.

Here are the steps for Cap Dialing:

  • hook up 8mm line to water supply
  • connect all caps with 3mm line, leave the bottom carrots off
  • make sure all caps all sealed closed and turn on the water supply and allow pressure to build
  • starting from the last cap on the line, dial in each cap by opening the cap until a hanging drip forms, then close it back two triangles
  • place the protective cap over the dial so it cannot be messed with
  • attach the carrot and place it in the soil
  • the cap is now dialed into the incoming pressure and will stay dialed!

Here they are getting bedded outside. I’ve been prepping the pots over the last month or so but more on that in a second. I clear a small circle in the pots and sprinkle on some worm castings. To my water I’ve added a soil activator from blackswallow which “is a soil inoculant designed for organic and conventional agriculture and is composed of a blend of naturally-occurring soil microorganisms with a proprietary synergist”. I also add some freeze dried coconut powder (gibberellic acid/root development, natural sugar, proteins, amino acids, good carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fats, fatty acids, and fiber) aloe flakes (root health, saponins, salycilic acids) and some soy amino’s for nitrogen.

Now, for the past month I’ve been prepping my pots by inoculating them with microbes! I’ve also been growing cover crop in my large pots to chop and drop once I take my photoperiod plants outside in July. Again, I am not planing my photoperiod plants on June 1st this year because they get too large to manage and are a bit of a stressor on my life. They will go out in July this year to keep things manageable.

The one thing I tried and had some early success with is Jadam Microbial Solution (JMS). I collected some leaf mold from a local forest and cultured my own IMO (indigenous micro organisms) using the method from the JADAM book. It worked out pretty well and I saw some crazy growth from my cover crop in the last 3 days! Like, an absolute explosion.

I made a small batch of JMS in a 5gal bucket. To the bucket I added:

  • 5gal filtered water
  • 19g pink seal salt
  • 1 large boiled potato
  • a small handful of leaf mold

I put all of that into a mesh produce bag I got from the dollar store (do not spend money on expense “nutrient” bags!) and massaged it into the water.

I let it sit covered on my roof where my garden is for 2 days in approx 20C/68F weather (cooler temps at night around 12C/54F) and after two days I got this:

The foam was alive and bubbling nicely! You can see on the edges that the foam is starting to break up. This is a sign that it might be a bit past it’s peak but still in good shape. I’ll get this dialed in on future runs.

Mostly I want to showcase the insane sprout in my cover crop a few days after soaking my pots with the microbial solution! Look at the pots in this photo, you can barely see the cover crop. This is the day I set the bucket out on the roof beside the pots.

Now look here 3 days after watering in the JMS! Bam!!

Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. I will continue with the JMS and experiment with making my own nutrients in the form of fermentations using LABS and JADAM liquid fertilizers (JLF). I also plan to make my own brown rice vinegar and then using that to create a calcium fertilizer using eggshells… oh and fish hydrolysate!

WOOO WEEE … Oh we gon have a good time this summer folks!!

Your setup looks fantastic! You are really turning this rooftop grow into a thing of beauty! Can’t wait to see those plants grow. Keep up the good work!

Nice to the rooftop in full swing! Nice idea on the bottomless pots for the autos. I ended up just going straight into 5 gallons, next year i’ll steal your idea haha. Im hoping even in the pot size itll give me an idea whether autos hit the spot. Then it’ll be sts time to reduce the cost.

Excited to see your plants this season!

Dang! What an update you put together! The problem with such a large update is trying to pick one in particular that stands out. That’s not possible because they are all beautiful in their Fall attire. The GMO x obama caught my eye for sure. That is outstanding!
Nice to see green on the rooftop again. lol

You’re too kind bud… Thanks for hanging out at the fire! I’m a few hundred posts behind on your thread but I’ll get caught up soon.

Thanks but it still needs to be dialed in a little bit IMO. You have to be really careful with watering in the first 2 weeks. If you try it I would recommend watering at the top around the seedling for the first 2 weeks, then slowly transition to bottom watering only for day 14-21 or up to day 28. Typically I like to get them outside around day 21 because I figure it gives them a week or so to harden off and get used to the environment before they start flowering but I’m still experimenting. With the next round I do in late July, I think I will try to start them in smaller pots, up pot on day 14 and start bottom watering then put them outside around day 25-28 and note the comparison.

Thanks for the comment my friend! Yes that plant is nice smoke… very relaxing stuff and strong. I like it a lot.

Yessir! Gotta keep it alive!!!
