Wow that’s great to know. Also well said! You should write a thread on how you harvest, dry, and cure you sp phenos. Lots of people starting to want to grow these and as you said @deeez99 and @DainIronFoot have passed a lot of these out. Also more people to add notes and methods. I’m not trying to give you home work. Anyways I could use a refresher to make sure I nail it this time!
Well said by the way.

So my Oaxacan sp has been hard to pin down a smell. So I cut up a few calyxes and it smells like a full fresh mower bag or wet cut grass and something cool on the end maybe cucumber? Anyways it smells like a clean crisp fall morning in the woods and some one a block away mowed their lawn. Has anyone had smells like this before?

Yes, me. Grass, and I was thinking some kind of generic mint, but I think cucumber fits pretty well. This is in three phenos mixed together in a bucket though…

Here’s how I do it:

I find it easier to know “doneness” with this strain than any other one I’ve grown. If all the pistils are brown, they’re done. I look at them under the microscope, but now I know I don’t have to.

I remove all the major fans and hang up to dry. When it’s dry, I spend a couple of minutes stripping all the vegetation from the stems, and end up with a pile of herb. I didn’t think Oaxacan (especially pearl stem) would give me great yields, but they actually yield copiously if they’re allowed a larger container or the ground.

I’m smoking it every night, and haven’t actually cured any. But smoking it green isn’t harsh. It’s still smooth smoke with a great, potent buzz.

The way I break it down, I still end up smoking leaves because I’m not trimming buds. If they’re noticeable I’ll pick them out before I smoke but I don’t care if I smoke a few leaves.

Thanks I was worries a little bit lol. I remember smoking it green last year as well but I didn’t have much to it as far as a high. I’m sure will smell different with a cure :crossed_fingers:lol. The buds, calyxes, are turning purplish and only the pistils at the very tips of the buds are white still. I’m thinking about 11 wks or so. Also the trics have changed. They seem to “pop” more meaning they are easier to see from farther away. I’m thinking this is the cloudy trics really coming out to make the “old silversides” effect more prevalent. I’m excited this year because I think I got some pretty good girls this year. I’ve been happy with most of the sativas I’ve grown but a fire Oaxacan has eluded me so far. The oss ps I have confidence in and the other Oaxacan is doing better than any other I e grown. When carrying into the shed last night the buds where smacking me in the face. Nice
strong peppery smell with just that old school fire herb smell on the back it smells just . The smcg is filling in nicely with interesting smells but still no receded pistils so I think she is going for the long run.

Nice looking plants and stickers.

One thing that is amazing me about the PS strain is how the fan leaves all shine in the sun. Like someone just varnished them. Can’t wait.

Thanks, I love my stickers. My plants like them too. Plus it keeps me focused on the goal, to overgrow the world.:peace_symbol:

I haven’t had that yet. So far pine, mint mango and frankincense for the OSS s1
Cucumber sounds really interesting. I had no idea s1 seed can be so variable.

I HIGHLY recommend some dried thoroughly, skipping the cure…but only if you have enough. It’s important to have enough for a good cure. I like it done both ways.

I don’t think you have to grow a lot to find fire. I’ve grown about ten, and was only disappointed with one that’s in the lower mids department.

Also, try mixing it with a modern hybrid for smoking. Oaxacan has much more diverse cannabinoids than hybrids, and I’ve gotten some excellent buzzes that way.

Mustafunk worked that line & his selections were masterful . Unadulterated with that kind of resin production plus full cannabinoid spectrum is quite special . IMHO like a good haze ,the right ones would make some stellar hybrids . I’d be inclined to cross it with other selected sattys .

Just a quick question I have some dr.grinspoon x destroyer anyone have ideas of how it smokes? Thinking about getting a few wet.

My Oaxacan PS has in a few days had all pistils receded, and most trics are cloudy. I’m thinking she is close which seems crazy at about 12 wks tops.

I’ve harvested at 12 weeks indoors but the ones outdoors I’ve been waiting until there are no green pistils left. I don’t think that’s at 12 weeks (they’re outdoors) because the indoor one was chopped at that time and the worst of what I pulled this summer was better. I know, I’m comparing outdoor oranges with indoor oranges.:rofl:

Edit: Pearl Stem - missed that. I pulled my first one when it was all cloudy and most of the pistils had receded. Maybe 12 weeks and it was great smoke. But a clone of it that I grew outside this summer, the buds started bulging and got relatively fat compared to the previous grow. So I let her go longer and I think it’s better smoke. And probably twice as heavy.

This year I ran a cross between the Oaxacan males and a favorite ‘Cambodianxgolden tiger’ female
I had four in the shed and two males
They almost all hermied due to a lighting incident and power outage
The plants were chosen for females only and taken outside. Several flipped male after reveg. I totally bleak the Cambodian genetics as I have heard of this issue before. The five females I grew were four different females. One was from Cambodian tiger one a well producing female with a somewhat “generic” high
The other four were from my favorite plants and the the third Cambodian was left out as it was a boring high and very small. One was a beautiful big beast. She had the height and clumpy buds that were very beautiful and smelled great. I called her plant c .
The high was good and Stoney but not anything unusual
The second biggest was plant d and had a fantastic smell was as tall as plant c but smaller larfie buds
It had almost no high at all although tasted and smelled best
Plant B was small and had a decent Stoney high
plantA was a heavy hitter and sent me into a death spiral thoughts and required me to take stock and center myself as I was higher than I have been in a long time. The Mystery plant was absolutely perfect in structure, looking like a Xmas tree and had a perfect pine smell like a …Christmas tree.
The high was a dopey staggering stone and I had a headache the next morning
I’m not sure if I waited too long and she had too much CBN or what?

OR ( GULP)
Quit smoking hybrids like i did. I get higher and higher more often than i ever could smoking hybrids, including my own that i grew for 27 years. No tolerance build up. No nap. No stage of lethargy.
Make landrace or heirloom your regular smoke, and break out the hybrids just on occasion to get real toasted. When smoked all the time, these modern strains completely fill your thc receptors and they stay filled with one smoke. All the other smokes of the day are a waste of money, at least for me. Only that first hybrid high of the day does much for me. Oaxaca and many other oldies do it EVERY time…all day. Every day.
