The Gossamer Years

Cant wait to see what you have in the works for the yard thats super awesome stuff. Will be neat to see a single tree turned into a full hedge fence, along with all the other cool stuff you have. Looking forward to how everything grows for ya.

I would if there were less rocks. I’m going to have to find a good use for those. Can you believe people used to buy them as pets once upon a time?

Thank you! Right now I’m working with this blueprint:

My first move is to tarp everything

Using this (it’s a pack of 2):

Weather permitting, I’ll be broadforking and laying down Calcitic lime on Wednesday so that the next rain can settle everything down. I’ll pin the tarps after that.

I also have to decide what plants will go where and such, but I don’t have the best imagination for that.

The second 6x300 will divide some portion of the backyard. I’d like to do that in halves as I have a robust creature that likes to play back there.

Super slick draw up :eyes: a solid foundation to build on man very nice. I feel you, picking where everything goes and what to pair up layer etc is the most difficult step, besides keeping the gallivanting beast at bay haha. Have one of those here also, shes older now but still has zero chill in the tank.

I have no doubts it will be a sight to behold in time, a sanctuary for the soul.

I ended up taking soil samples and broad-forking yesterday,

Afterwards, I added 20 lbs of Pelletized Lime to the Devil’s Strip, and then 50 lbs to the right and 50 lbs to the left.

I’m unfamiliar with what you’re doing there… I’m guessing (so who knows how close I am, lol), you’re pulling up a TON of ground to fertilize underneath? That looks like an insane amount of work…

Thanks dude. One of the reasons I’ve wanted to own a home is to gain the ability to do exactly what I’m doing now, so it’s really a dream come true.

You mention that you too have a possible robust creature, this is very good. I hope you give them a good pat on the head from Unc Christmas.

It’ll be a few years before we really see anything. Hopefully we’ll both be around by then.

You’re pretty spot on man, I’m attempting to employ a no-till method to aerate my soil and build upon it. For now, I simply went every 4-6 inches and lifted the soil so that the lime I added can work it’s way down the soil matrix to raise my pH. I’ll be covering up with the barrier I posted above and letting that sit until late Summer, where the next step will be to broadfork again but with the intent of producing a fine seed “bed”. I’ll then plant Sorghum Sudangrass as well as a faster growing erosion fighter and take it from there.

I thought it would only take me a few hours to wrap everything up yesterday, but I was out there until 2300 lol.

I had some leaves in my backyard so I laid them down where I could, fully covering the Island and what had previously been a mulch bed.

When I throw the tarps ontop, it’ll lasagna them underneath.

As for determining what plants I’d like to go where, I use GIMP and then a Adobe’s free background editor to visualize how my plant selections would look. Here are some examples:
