The One (1976 Highland Thai x 1971 Kandahar Afghan) BX2 grow log

Goodness gracious I love those plants! Old school strains are so fascinating. Despite the leaves the buds looks absolutely perfect! If you’re doing everything right, there’s a good chance that’s a fungus, it looks like what our trees get time to time, forgive me I don’t remember what it’s called Just throwing it out there for ya. Carry on soldier

F68 - they are not ready yet…Gosh Darnit!
Lights on - 80F 60%RH
F67 3 trich a F67 4 trich a F67 5 tich a F67 9 trich A
Barely any amber trichs as we’re getting to day 70; still too many clears.
The lockout is real on this run, as I used old unflushed old dirt.
Trich density is looking good So there’s that…
Without a doubt, these are the shortest, non stretching plants I have grown in years.
The buds are ROCKS.
No PGR, Terpinator, etc.
Old school Killer Green Bud.
Structure reminds me of the legendary U Dub/University of Washington cut I had back in the day…
…If anyone has a line on those genetics, please hit me up…
The timing is going to be a problem tho, as I am looking at vacation in 2 weeks.
On the plus side, since these are so such short plants in 5 gal pots I can give the a big water and leave them for a week without worrying too much

Awesome strain , I know u weren’t really asking but I concur with Shev theres something going on below ground.

Doh finish flashing ppm meters will do it everytime!!!

Some of these old genetics you can toss a bag of 20-20-20 on and there happy (death bubba) . Some claw up at half strength (bberry) …

Are you going to run again? Please tell us how they smoke

Appreciate the input. Definitely a media issue.
Ph on slurry was spot on; 6.2 in 6.0-6.3 out.
Man they are looking ragged now.
Pretty sure it was the gallon and a half of OF Strawberry Fields that I put in the bottom of the pot.
…the Tony Green GG4 RIL was just loving that Strawberry fields…
Early flower was chugging along fine, but everything started to get cooked around week 6 when the CAL deficiencies started displaying.
My slurry PPM readings looked like they were shorting out my cheapo Vivosum meter.
There’s enough green matter to allow photosynthesis, but losing so many fans is cutting down on horsepower.
Flushing salt buildup is something I could handle, but flushing the native nutes out of dirt is something I’ve not had to address before.
I do not want to be pushing 20 gallons of water through each of these pots, so we’re gonna let them just finish up on Recharge and Molasses(1 TBsp/gal).
Even tho they are all under 2 foot they are drinking a gallon every 3 days with little runoff.
I’ld like to get back to these at a later date, but I have too many seeds and only so many tents.
.My next run will be a couple of MAC crosses.
The short stature, one topping into a manageable bush, stable phenos (physical), no stretch features could make the cultivar interesting for breeding.
…The rubber hits the road after a smoke test and finished terpine profile.

Hey I was thinking is that soil for berries? I think they do best in sandy 4.5ph soil that would defineatly cause issues.

Well here we are after 3 whole months.
Old school strain is gonna run old school timeframe. So it goes…
USB microscope is on the blink, so no trich porn-just a group shot and a random top.
Went in to pull off dead stuff (there was a lot of it) and looking at the pix, I see that I have to do a round 2 tomorrow. I do not want any necrotic tissue hanging around during dry and cure.
Chop is gonna be the next day or 2.
Noticed some nice lavender colors deep in the buds from some of the sugar leaves that were pulled.
Looks like it is gonna be a breeze to manicure.
Even at 18 inches, just touching a couple of these tops split the stem.
Thinking clubs rather than baseball bats.
They’ve seen abuse from germination all the way through finish and not a single nanner to be found.
I would say these beans are as stable as they come.
Mountain Organics is doing due diligence with their genetics!

I’d be curious to see what one of these would look like staked in a BIG pot. seems worth a try

thanks for a good look at these. :+1: old school rules!

Hey @noknees. These are 5 gal pots, and the plants are all less than 20 inches tall.
I never did get around to staking after worrying about pulling down the branches to open up the middles. They are bushy buddies.
Chopped about an hour ago. I’ll share a pic when they’re on the trim tray.
No fruit smells, just gluey foot funk so far.

Hanging dry day 5
Extraction fan on lowest setting. Fires over 70F or RH over 62%
Temp low 70sF RH low to high 60% depending on mother nature.
Fan leaves are not brittle, but close.
Hay smell has moved in.
Buds have zero crunch; not really expecting any for another 2 days.
Drying in the mid atlantic during August I can’t run the dehumidifier b/c it will run the temps up too high, so making the best of what’s around.

My friend toured cannabis university in Colorado, he was telling me that there they found it best to not even cure in jars, but to hang upside down in a dry room like what you’re doing in 70 degrees and 50-60 rh for 3-4 weeks. Said they found all jar cures contained traces of mold. Completely new to me maybe others here have and even practice this method

I typically hang cure for 1-2 weeks in a darkened partition of my flower room, which usually runs 70-78F and 50-60% humidity with good air circulation. Haven’t had any mold issues yet doing it this way.

Which seed company made The One? I went to the website and searched without luck. I wasn’t aware it was available. It sure looks nice! peace

GMan, looks like they are out of the BX2 presently.
I’m on Wellgrownseeds mailing list and they are pretty good about notifying when stuff drops.

Hang dry day 7
Normally I would be looking for that slight crunch sound in the colas while the interior has a flexible rebound after giving the buds a gentle squeeze about now.
No crunching on the outer parts, and all the flower parts are supple and “bouncy”.
RH has been at or close to 70% the last couple of days and isn’t going down anytime soon, so a longer dry is happening; not a bad thing at all.
Went in and bucked the fans, as they won’t be contributing to a slow dry after a week, and they’re getting crispy.
Biggest positive was that the hay smell left the room as soon as the fan stripping began; The wife reported major pot stinkage upstairs after I was doing the stripping.
I have gotten into dry trimming. While wet trim is easier and I think the buds wind up with more bag appeal, I think the final product is higher quality with a dry trim.
YMMV.
Once again these notes are more for my own review later down the line than recommendations on what anyone SHOULD be doing in their grow.
Well, and maybe a strain review for folks looking into strains in the future.
Hell, OG is becoming more of a diary for me than a 16 year old’s secret diary.
Best of fortunes with your grows!

It’s from swami organic seed originally , some of coots work I do believe

That’s about the way I dry and trim anymore. I get all of the big stuff out and leave the small sugar leaves on. They dry and still leave the inside of the bud just right. I just lightly rake them off before I smoke the bud. It helps protect the trichs, too.

I think that’s the one (pun) Sannie used in some of his work. @santero may know his source.

Thanks I may look to see. Hey, I have a couple of your Lavender growing outside. Wow, they went out of root bound pots on August 1. 3 Weeks later they’re almost trees. I was hoping to squeeze a little growth out before they stated fowering, and then we had lots of days that started real hot and rained in the afternoon. They went Jurrasic! 10-12" fan leaves. I think they finally decided to get to flowering. I’m really looking forward to them. Thanks.

Sorry @justdrew. I need to start my own thread again. peace

Recently there was an additional “The One” introduced by Microbe Brothers (They are a clone company) that has nothing to do with Coots’ work.
My beans from MOB were built from a Coots cut crossed with Velvet Rush (no idea of the lineage of that strain) and then selectively choosing the most “The One” males and BX-ing into the original mother.
Completely unsanctioned as far as I know.

Hang dry day 13
74 F 70% RH
Still not feeling the outside crunch with the supple return from the moist centers.
RH is still too high without turning on the dehumidifier…Grrrr.
I did break one down (because 2 weeks), but I cannot get the RH below 67% RH in the grove bag even in a 51%RH environment, so these will be bouncing off a screen over the next couple of days.
Burping the grove bags upstairs has the Old Lady complaining about the funk from 3 zips, so I take that as a positive.
Looking at running Frosted Raspberry from Mosca and Berning Mac from Romulan for the next run…
I will be looking to Swami organic seeds for their The One x Blue Moon Rocks Bx4 https://swamiseed.org/product/the-one-x-blue-moon-rocks-bx4/ on black friday to grab some 3 packs for $100 to run this strain again.
No disrespect on MOB, just trying to get closer to the source.
These Mountain Organics beans are legit.
