The Panic Attack Phenotype

Anyone else here have strong anxiety/panic attacks with some cannabis?

As I get older (mid 40s now) it happens more and more. I am not talking just a little paranoia, but bleak, dark thought loops, sometimes up to complete panic attacks that take a while to subside.

Happens more with stronger strains, particularly sativas, as well as concentrates, hash, etc.
I have been smoking since my teens, and while not completely new, the frequency and intensity has increased.

I could stop consuming I suppose. But, I use cannabis for pain relief for chronic joint pain. I am not even really that interested in the buzz anymore, just making things not hurt so bad, as well as helping me sleep. I have found that certain terpenes (limonene) as well as higher CBD/CBN seem to reduce this some - but it varies widely.

Anyone else deal with this? Have hints or solutions? my friends think i am odd because I will often turn down concentrates and only smoke flower in moderation, even when chilling/partying.

Definitely has started happening to me as I get older. Had one so bad I went to the hospital because I literally thought I was having a heart attack. It tends to be a bit cyclical like my anxiety in general is. Best solution for me is exercise to be honest. I was very sedentary for a lot of my (still fairly short as I’m not old yet!) adult life. Consistent aerobic + anaerobic exercise in conjunction with getting enough sleep has done wonders for my cannabis experience. I’ll still smoke too much from time to time or find strains that don’t jive with me but the full blown panic attacks have mostly subsided.

I have been mixing thc varieties with cbd to even out the effect. I am wondering also if the old school weed was mellower as it had seeds in it, reducing the concentration? Mind you I use half now of what I would back then. I am going to try going full time on cbd for pain, will be interesting to find what will happen when I smoke then.

why not do something against the problem.
Lets make this thread a Panik attack-Solution Thread.

A couple people each grow a anxiety-free Strain, and offer the Seedrproductions to those who suffer from todays weed.

I can give the People some links, there is a super good Columbian, a nice Afghani, and a good old Marrocan to be had, right now. Grow those seeds and reproduce it and share it, Ask me if your serious about doig a repro.
You have to learn that industry rarely wants to give you Quality. They want to survive the Concurrency, and do that best by selling stinky bagappeal weed that yealds well. That means money.
You have to realize, that you have to do it all yoursleve. The only one that sells “fairly” good old Weed as Smokable endproduct is Kiona farms. but i think i dont even like those, i think some are atleast close …

Im currently on the hunt for good anxiety free strains and I love this idea. It might be a while but I would love to reproduce strains that I have found beneficial and share them with the OGs

An aged indica hashish would do the trick. Nice and sleepy.

Yeah I have to avoid certain strains - like strong hazes being an example, unless I’m in the mood for that kind of thing. Strong sativas can be iffy unless I’m doing something - hiking, biking, etc. I also find strong hybrids that hit quickly can make me anxious until they mellow out. I think for sativas - some of the lower potency landraces would be great, or some sativa-leaning blueberry lines can be wonderful too. Pure /mostly pure indicas don’t seem to give me issues. One thing too is making sure the bud is mature - immature bud can be more speedy.

I’ve had a few panic attacks in the past. It was because of the laws. Thinking what I was doing was wrong. I was definitely wrong about that.

If you’re growing your own, just chop a bit early. Will take the “panic” out of it.

For me, chopping early induces the panic attack.
Sometimes the euphoria becomes overwhelming, that I panic because I’m afraid of where is high is taking me….
Instant anxiety. Speaking in tongue. Giving away my worldly possessions. Lucid nightmares.
I wake up in a stupor and then do it all over again.

Hell no!!! I might do it again. Lol. It was ruff. Shit in my pants. Didn’t know it for a few days. Shrooms I’m ready for again. I don’t like to encourage. But take a ride. I do like Salvia. Microdots, there was something else I can’t remember.

some of us react to high thc in bad ways i can get some serious panic attacks where i want to go hospital but just end up usually talking myself down. look for some 1:1 cbd cannabis strains that give you the 10% 10 % or 3:1 thc cbd you will get the medical effects and the slight stone to relax. anything that rings my ears after a rip or toke can get me into the mode of a panic attack and depending on how im feeling who i am with where i am will determine how well i handle it. more comfortable i am easier to talk down and enjoy

I agree. You pull it at the wrong time it will make your head spin. Headaches also. When is like that I don’t even care about smoking it.

anything that smells stinky, chemical , piney probably, i can aleady tell by the smell isnt good for me.

anything that smells truely like sweet (without stink), berrys or fruit, kitchen herb, gas (without stink), woody, is a possible candidate for smoking

The only panic attack I have ever had was when I was high on some Mexican “shwag” which was a Sativa many years ago. I would avoid sativas, and go for Indicas like anything “Kush”, afghan, or any number of 100% or heavily dominant hybrids.
