The real Blue Dream from Humboldt? HSO or HSC?

seems like there is good variety in the surfin blue durban. He had 2 phenotypes, one came out purple (like the surfin’ durban mother), the other came out light green with very narrow leaves (looking more like the blue dream and the surf’s up).

He has only smoked one of them so far, I’ll let you know when he gets back to me with a smoke report on the second pheno and a report on the line over all.

He was asking how many seeds I had left and wanted more for next season, so that’s a pretty good review.

Big shout out to MG_Canna Profile - MG_Canna - Overgrow.com for the generous trade!!
And BIG SHOUT OUT TO -Humboldt Seed Company for sending me some Trainwreck Regs & Fems freebies! I never had an issue with HSC so not sure why Hannah said that in the letter. I had just mentioned that we’ve grown a few HSC strains but always from Clone and never from seed and were a bit weary! Well let’s see how this Trainwreck turns out! I have a bunch of trainwreck and trainwreck crosses now so maybe I’ll run a few and see which I like most!

OK, so I assume that means that you don’t want to continue our trade we had going, considering I havent heard back from you in a couple weeks. no problem, glad I caught this post - I will just hang on to these seeds. I am glad you got your Trainwreck you were looking for - @MG_Canna is a great guy

You’re talking about twenty20 Mendocino’s trainwreck seeds right? The trade you initiated? Yea I never heard back from you about it.

I didn’t initiate anything, you said you were looking for seeds, so I messaged you, and I was going to send them to you for free, no trade involved, and you said you were going to send off some seeds to me, and were waiting for mailing supplies and you were going to get back with me, we exchanged addresses etc., and I was waiting to hear back from you, but it is not a big deal, I am glad you found your trainwreck seeds, and it is good to know that I don’t need to send off seeds to you. Good luck!

Good looking out then I guess growmie! I honestly forgot who had those seeds lol no offense…hard to keep up sometimes especially when I work 9am-9pm. Even though I have trainwreck seeds I still might buy twenty20mendo’s trainwreck. Can never have enough trainwreck imo
And it’s sad but I’m still waiting for my shipping supplies. I order free padded envelopes on USPS all the time and they usually deliver pretty slow. I was hoping I’d get it last Monday so maybe this Monday

yeah those shipping supplies come in handy, and not many people know they can get them shipped to them for free. Everything is moving slow these days.

Yes it has a very strong buzz I find the buzz kind of generic but very strong to the point I can feel it behind my eyes which few strains do anymore it also kind of stings the nostrils on exhale like hash can

thanks ! appreciate it.

Most bag seed is actually more likely an f2 of it self iv grown lots of bag seed and typically if you just find 1 or 2 seeds it’s just pollinated itself

I dont think there is a true blue dream now adays i know of many cuts and variations such as the Colorado cut that is more of a hybrid but that “cut” came from another breeder “i heard threw the grapevine supposedly” even before blue dream we had blue haze from Europe. blueberry itself has its own issues many variations same for hazes alone being crossed into who knows what blueberry iv seen grows of bbxsupersilverhaze bbxoriginalhaze bbxnevilieshaze there are lots of good cuts and seeds out there found or breed by who knows. it was hype weed in its time so lots of people started messing with blueberry and haze genetics making there own. Iv even found breeders at one time that both where breeding bluedream x alien og together so I bought packs from both breeders to see how different they are to each other the chances of them getting the same bluedream cutting alone is slim to non

There most certainly is a true blue dream. The clone that was originally called blue dream is still alive and well and that is the true blue dream. There are many different phenos now because people have been growing out seeds they find in buds or buy from breeders. This happens to every strain that becomes popular. Those seeds could be a s1 , a hybrid from another plant in the field going hermie or a missed male. Most of the blue dream seeds I’ve seen grown lean heavy towards the blueberry and not the haze. Alot of this comes from a lack of good nomniclature practices and people not referring to what they are passing correctly for a variety a different reasons.
Long story short the original pheno of blue dream that made it known on a large scale is very much still alive.

yup that’s the real thing for sure. look at that crusty resin all over it.
another super distinctive cultivar, so unique I’d recognize it anywhere.
why do the imitators even try?

I guess there are just too few people who are familiar with the real thing.

I had my first adult experiences with cannabis in Cali during the blue dream craze. It was, literally, everywhere, and it was consistent in terms of the strain. You knew what you were getting, and it didn’t really matter that it was so ubiquitous because it was a really, really nice strain. It was probably the closest thing to the perfect strain, rivaling some of the best OGs.

Now, though? It’s not that easy to find, even in Cali. And, when I do find it, there is an above 50% chance that it won’t be that original blue dream that I remember. I’ve seen a lot of blue dream auto floating around SoCal clubs lately, real garbage stuff. I do miss the old blue dream. I don’t know why it faded into obscurity. It is far better than most everything currently out.

%100 agree with all of that. It was super reliable and consistent just like you said. I have no idea why it fell out of favor. It was a staple, like the cannabis equivalent of bread and potatoes.

I think when it comes down to it, it happened because people were distracted by a new version of girl scout cookies coming out every month.

I’m still obsessed with it @zephyr and @Eudaemon. It’s my go to anxiety/depression strain. Has been for many years now. I’ve grown from clone and seed. Flavor and smell seems to change depending on the plant, but the high is the same imo. Even if the high is slightly varied it still does the same job. Like I mentioned before, probably only a handful of peeps could tell the difference there. I have yet to get a shit high, even off of the crappiest phenos I’ve grown which were autos. This is a staple strain for me regardless.

I don’t grow from cutting (never have), and have weird philosophical preference for seed growing and a paranoid fear about bringing in disease and pest. It’s prevented me from exploring that realm of cannabis. But for a classic like blue dream, I would probably setup an elaborate quarantine.

How easy is it to find an original blue dream cutting? I can only imagine the difficulty in finding the original blue dream in dispensaries corresponds to an inability to find genuine clones? It might be fun to throw a female in the room to be a pollen recipient.

I’m an outdoor grower, so I don’t trip on clones, bugs and such. I do prefer growing damn near everything from seed though. From a pure satisfaction standpoint, nothing philosophical lol

I have no idea if you can still get og clones. I would guess nurseries in Cali would still have them if nowhere else. I’ve seen a lot of new crosses with it, but not the real deal lately. Haven’t been looking specifically though as I just grew one in seed form out this year.

If you happen to be in California I’d be happy to give you a blue dream clone , I still need to figure out how to get one down to @meesh before next year’s outdoor season. I’m in the central Sierra foothills myself.
