Glad to have you here @Papalag. Thursday is gonna mark the end of week 3 of flower. The fat girl in the back finally decided to stretch out far enough where I think I can finally give her a haircut along with the other ladies. I haven’t been checking on them every 2 or 3 days at this point.

I can’t believe the power went out to the neighborhood right before lights on. How will this effect flower being in darkness for longer than 12 hours.

There shouldn’t be any issues if they get a few hours of extra darkness. What really messes with them is interrupting the dark cycle.

Cool. Power came on about an hour and a half late. Stayed on for a few hours then went off again for another 30 mins or so. I have a generator. I’m trying to figure out if I should hard wire it to the lights for emergencies.

What’s happenin everybody? So here’s a fun game. Diagnose the plant problem.

Before you switch your reservoir, some of your leaves look like this

You swap out your res and 2 days later some of your leaves look like this

CUE JEOPARDY MUSIC (the old one)

If you guessed that I for some reason, have my drain timer switched to ON and running 24 hours a day so that when the fill timer clicks on it basically just recycles back into the res, not giving these girls hardly any drank, you would be correct.

Get your head back in the game Jones. We are in week 5 of flower and these are rookie mistakes!

Oh no. What do I do?

My wife’s outdoor garden is infested with aphids. I told her “don’t you bring that evil into this house.” But she won’t listen. I already murdered the fungus gnat issue. I don’t know if I have it in me to wage full out war on aphids this late in the game.

Is there any preventative measures I can take against them?

So far so good. No aphids have breached the compound.

Second up, there is some sad news. One of the Copa ladies spazzed out and went Hermin Munster on us. But all is not lost. There are still 2 Copa girls and they are doing great.

First up is the tall lady. From seedling she was the most prolific grower out of 30 or what ever seeds.
Day 38F

I’m struggling to even fit her in this photo.

Candid shots

Then we have the short stubby girl. I’m pretty sure this is the one that got roasted to hell way earlier above. This structure and growth might be a result of that beating.

She is about a foot maybe 16 inches shorter than her sister. Her buds are physically smaller than her taller sisters in both length and girth, however, she is packing on a ton of frost that the taller girl is not.

I have a feeling she is going to end up being something special.

I didn’t even really talk about the herm.

Funny enough, the plant was my favorite out of the three. The plant structure was beautiful as well as how the buds stacked on it. Really a shame. I’m not ruling out that it might have been operator error, but that doesn’t make sense as all plants are sharing the same res and she was shorter than the taller plant so I think I can rule out heat and light stress.

Here are the updates on the Mosca fems

Both plants are very similar in both structure and height, within a few inches. Topped with no training. I said I was gonna do a side by side on them and not groom the one on the left. That only lasted a few days before I couldn’t stand the sight of her raggely butt and trimmed her up a bit.

That’s a nice setup. Looks like you’re getting the kinks worked out. I haven’t seen anyone call out your pH for being in the low 6es, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I’ve always shot for 5.6-5.8 in my DWC runs.

Interesting. What’s up with that? I noticed in my system I was dealing with pH creep when I was using distilled water. That seems to have gone away now that I just use tap.

Someone with a bigger brain than I could probably tell you. But I’ve always read to shoot for ~5.8 in soilless grows and ~6.5 in soil. In my experience, the pH will swing up a bit as the plant takes up nutes in between res topping up/changes. From my understanding, elements/nutes become bound in the water (the Hydrogen) and unavailable to plants compared to how they do in soil (less hydrogen to bind with) at similar pHs hence the reason for the need of a lower pH in hydroponics.

Greetings @Indicana_Jones,

I just finished reading your story to date, top to bottom. Thanks for sharing your roller coaster ride! Those packed up buds look like you’re in for some great smoke!

Here’s a tip for your next run that might avoid an early problem you experienced:
When you are ready to move sprouted seeds into your Rapid Rooter cubes, poke an arm of your scissors down the hole and make a long vertical slice out to the side. When you install the seed you can open up the slit, position the root right where you want it and let HelmetHaid see which way is up.

It’s also helpful to water the Rooters from the bottom only to encourage the tap root to head down for a drink.

Wisdom of the ages around OG, but I thought I’d mention it.

Hey @GrouchyOldMan that’s a brilliant idea. I’m glad you popped in to share that. I was really dreading this next round of seeds that are getting popped in a few weeks. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that seeing as how the plants inevitably bust the damn things in half anyway.

@Hidden I will definitely give that a try on this next res swap. Just topped it off a few days ago and it’s already looking like it might be time to redo her.

Yes, great example of no buffer vs some buffer. pH will swing easily with no or little buffer.

@Gpaw interesting, interesting. I had no idea why it was doing it nor why it had stopped. I swear, I’m learning a ton of new stuff today.
