It’s amazing how many people just toss leaves to be taken to the dump or recycling center! Put a small comment in the towns social chat site two days ago now I have upwards of 30 bags of potential gold to compost down! Guess I’ll be busy this weekend with the leaf mulcher mulching beds, making a happy place for my worm homies and getting more compost started!

I’m definitely getting a compost tumbler for x-mas. I love that I get the best nutrients for free and damn amendments are expensive. I’d rather do the extra work.

Spent about 3 hours today with upwards of almost 40 bags of leaves! Started two bins of active compost to start cooking away !

You actually have to put some dirt in it too am I correct? If so, what’s the proper ratio? Or just greens and browns?

Sounds exciting! Not to dash your dreams but in order for a pile to heat up properly you’ll need about a cubic yard … most tumblers are probably a 1/3 that volume I made one out of a 50 gallon barrel and it still wasn’t what I had hoped for to get the job done

Sometimes I “salt” the pile with a partial spade full here and there but there’s enough dust on the leaves to do the trick of getting it to heat up!

I do about 1inch of greens whether it he grass ,weeds veggie scraps to about 4 inches of leaves lasagna layer wet each as you go to about 50% moisture it’ll be 120 or so in about two days and 150 in 4-5 days

Bummer! I was gonna get a 80 to 100 gallon. I’ll probably still need to amend then.

I have gotten my leaves from 5-6 people now all with different leaves … which my quess would contain different minerals as well … as a side note stay away from Walnet leaves they contain jugulone substance that inhibits growth in plant of memory serves me right!

Get your self some wire fencing probably 15 feet long wire it together in a 3-4’ circle and your good can probably for cheap on Craig’s list or someone giving it away!
