TLT - Congo Red Stem

Yeah they aren’t doing too bad so far. No worries, I will post an update again tonight. Hit them with the first round of pollen a week ago. So things have changed a bit. If I remember correctly it was sort of gassy/minty smelling from stem rubs. Will have to check the buds and see how they are smelling.

Is that relatively high for this strain?

Very high for any strain. Highest I’ve read about.

How did the redstem finish? Hermie issues?

They finished up just fine! A few put on a bunch of new growth towards the end but other than that, all good. No herm issues with them thankfully.

Strapping in for the ride. Saw these on Strainly from TLT and almost bought a pack just to have them. What a gorgeous plant. Bless you for doing this seed run.

Edit: I see I’m late to the game. Gotta start checking those post dates

So as far a the smell goes it was sort of gassy/minty. I think the most remarkable thing about them was they all had good anthocyanin production. All plants had a mix of reds and deep purples on their stems. Buds turned a purple color as well.

I’ve got them chopped up sitting in a box, need to get on breaking them down. There wasn’t a whole lot of resin on them but they were heavily seeded.

No worries, I got busy and really neglected to update this log. I wouldn’t hesitate to grab a pack of them. They were really cool plants. I’ve thought about getting another pack myself.

Few pics after pollination, the purple color developed towards the end.

Absolutely stunning plant. I hope you get a bazillion seeds from her, and I hope each and every one of them jumps out of it’s calyx with little to no effort, just when you want them to.

I was browsing TLTs page/store over on Strainly. I saw this Congo Red Stem, and then an Idian varietal that I think was just called North Indian Red Stem. If I’m remembering correctly (they have SO MANY cool landrace strains!) the flowers on the Indian Red looked a lot like the classic “bead” pheno of Grinspoon. Would be cool to see the Indian and Congo strains crossed to one another, and possibly outcrossed to some other long-flower stuff like Maui or maybe a South or Central American

You’re a saint for dedicating the time, space, and effort into doing this seed run. Many thanks and blessings unto you

Did you get any cuttings for a seedless run? They sure are pretty plants!" How many weeks did they flower? Probably not full term due to seed? It’s quite possible the flowers didn’t get old enough to start producing much resin. Probably comes on late.

So I didn’t take any cuttings but I did think about how nice they would have turned out without seeds. I wish I would have taken more photos of them, they were really nice looking plants especially when the purple started coming on. I did 2 pollinations and let them go around 95 days or so. No they didn’t go the full term which I can’t say I am sad about that. Yeah the resin production happened later on, for awhile I was wondering if I’d see much at all.

That’s more than relatively high, even for any equatorial NLD. Those genetics are extremely valuable.

A couple of years ago I grew a bag seed, had no idea what it was. Turned out it was a male and I crossed it with Gelato and called it DG (Droopy Gelato). Next year grew DG seeds and one female and one male showed deep red stems. Cloned and crossed these to create DGR (Droopy Gelato Red). This year am making more seeds from the DGR boys and girls

Am mentioning this because the only strain the DGR plants look like is Congo Red Stem. Of course I have no idea what the actual genetics were in the original male (I named him Mr Droopy). The DGR plants I’m working with now have more of a sativa form, deep red almost burgundy stems, smaller flowers/buds and they take about 5-6 months to mature.

Here’s a recent photo of the top of a DGR girl.

If you are interested lots more info in my 2023 grow journal.

Awesome journal I missed this somehow. Nice job with those in the tent, not easy to do. Honestly looks like those could be started in 12 12.
