The top layer of soil will always dry out first with young plants seedlings etc
If you push your index finger into the soil and its moist should be ok, if its dry below your second knuckle or a few inches then I would water.
Its best to learn by the weight of the pot, your new tool will help you to do this
Hi @Smokinsammy
For new growers, the temptation to water when unnecessary is sort of like a moth drawn to a flame.
Self defeating.
Usually, when in doubt, don’t water.
Good luck and have fun!
Why do i feel like I am implied in this sentence… LOLOLOLOL
My good friend @Calyxander! How’s life bro!?
@Smokinsammy, i over-watered my plants a lot first time around, and then i burned them with nutes and then i had to flush them twice, and well… Those probes give you an idea, but everyone here told me about the weight of the pot, and that really works, it does. What i did was i filled a pot like the ones i am using and i would lift it up and compare to the other ones, the ones with the plants, and boy, you can really tell the difference, after a while it will become muscle memory and you’ll do it by heart. Never let the bottom of the pot dry out entirely. IMHO.
Thanks for the replies guys I will check again in the morning if soil is dry two inches down I will give a little water I was thinking of adding one of the vertafort growth boosters to the water for my next watering would it be OK or should I just do plain water I will be 10 days since planted tomorrow
Hi @MadScientist
I was not referring to you…hahahaha.
Overwatering is a very common trap for new growers to fall into. Over the years, I have seen many well intentioned new growers succumb to the siren song of this almost uncontrollable urge.
It gave me a laugh, a good one… LOL
@Herbie method works well for me as well , I have one of those probes as well but don’t use it much the sensor is in the tip of a 8-10 inch probe so it’s half way into the pot it will measure as adequate hope this helps, I do like pot weight as well!
We all like a heavy bag of pot / weed, but the plant doesnt like the pot too heavy, it either gets bogged down due to over watering, rot, mildew, all have the chance to thrive, if th epot on the branches gets too heavy they just bend or snap.
@Smokinsammy as long as the water is ph corrected and within the correct ranges 6.0-6.2ph for soil
I have ph 6.5 water is that OK or to high I give a little water this morning as soil was dry two inches down then I noticed a couple hours later that I have wot could be fungus knats so I have ordered some of this
How do I use it do I just sprinkle on top of soil?
Yup let the top dry out a bit before adding give it a try I like neem powder as well when watering the next go around water from the bottom! How big are your pots?
5litre pots do I just sprinkle it all over the top of the soil?
Yup that and lightly scratch some in the medium as well with a fork, also I would employ yellow sticky traps to trap them and works as a good monitoring device when you get them it always amazes me how many your not seeing!
I have ordered some mosquito dunks aswell to crush up and mix with my water the next time I do it
Are this seed directly planted or is it in peat puck or rapid rooter? The leaf texture has me a little worried here seems to be lacking turgidity.
Directly planted it isn’t growing as good as the other one tbh it was slow to fully emerge from the seed shell
Does the first one look OK in your opinion
Looks good to me if you check my one seed germ from sunshine thread mine are fourteen days a lil further than yours but that prolly due to four days older an I’m in hydro rather than soil lookin good tho
