Yah air pruning happens when there is an increased evaporation layer. It can get ugly if you plant a plant in a coir pot then plant that coir pot inside another with the top edge out of the ground. It creates air pruning at the interface between the pot and the dirt, preventing the roots from expanding beyond the coir pot, and also prevents the coir pot from getting any water, making the plant wilt.
