I’ll watch them in a bit. I need to run now and get a few things going… I was thinking about this earlier today. I want to focus on how to fish for walleye and perch. Lately I’ve just been trolling a brown wooly bugger type Pistol Pete.

I was doing well with the rainbow but was also catching medium walleye, one really nice smallmouth bass, and a few others not as big. The wind was the only thing preventing me from catching a lot of fish. I have a mesh bag to take from now on. I can save them in it and keep them alive maybe until I leave. I would never keep any if I had one in the freezer unless it was a different fish.

I recently found out they have a recommendation against eating walleye in the 18’ range. Mercury, from the coal mine operations earlier in history. It’s the only fish that it affects.

But, I’d love to start collecting some YP to keep in the freezer. They’d make great Baja tacos.

I did better fishing today after changing flies. I put on a large chartreuse wooly bugger with a gold bead head and fished it like a streamer, trolling it on the kayak. I started killing it with the smallmouth, and caught the largest rainbow of the year. Smallmouth too maybe. I caught a big one the other day but today’s may have been bigger.

Both were really fighting today and took a while to land them. Nose down for them. And now my grass is one inch taller. It’s supposed to be (more) windy tomorrow so I really plan on doing yard work this time, really…

Im growing garlic in the garden for the first time, looking forward to try my own homegrown garlics when they are harvest ready.

Awesome! It takes awhile to grow but after I learned about all of the different varieties of Garlic, I was hooked. Much like my love for cannabis and genetics, I wanted to start collecting all of the best seed garlic I could find in the most exotic varieties I could find.

When did you plant? I am Zone 9b so I plant late (November) and harvest a tad bit earlier typically. Mine have been producing their Scapes in the last week so they are likely about 1 month or so until I harvest.

Of the 7 varieties I grew, I will likely just plant one or two of the strongest varieties next year for best bulb size in my climate. Chesnok Red has been my best growing variety and the Persian Star did pretty well by the looks of it.

We had a guy in town growing some exotic varieties and selling them at the farmers market. I can’t remember them all now… I remember a Vietnamese strain… not much else, lol…

That’s awesome. Some of the Asian varieties of Garlic are some of the best around and they harvest early. I would love to get my hands on some.

I grew Chesnok Red, Iinchelium red, Persian Star, Amish Rocambole, German Extra Hardy (which did not like my climate and grew tiny), Georgian Fire, and this California Garlic that I will not name/grow again because it was bad seed and could have rotted my whole garden.

With Garlic, pests are not really an issue, they require very little supplemental water, but White Rot… That can take out your garden for years if you are not careful.

I only have the one, I got em from my old man.
Living up north in Europe, he told me it took him years, to find one that would climatise and yeald well.

I planted mine the last week of september, a fair bit earlier then you and im not sure on when to harvet them

That is how it usually goes. Growers/families will find what works best in their climate and grow it for years with success.

A general rule of thumb is once they produce their flower/scapes you have about a month or so until harvest. I tend to just look at the bottom sets of leaves and once the bottom few sets are dried it is probably harvest time.

Also, whenever they DO produce their scapes, try to cut them as soon as possible to allow all of the energy in the plant to go to your bulbs and not to flowering. Scapes can be cooked with as well for a mile garlic flavor.

My wife and I are rental house hunting. I’m not young and have been around the houses-for-rent-block on Craigslist from coast to coast.

Yesterday I sent out a couple of emails regarding properties and one was very clearly too good to be true. Flag #1. The reply came in to take the conversation off of Craigslist which was red flag #2 and this AM I got some long random request in very poor broken english, Flag #3. SO, today I spent some time crafting a reply in broken English worse than theirs. I love that I have the time to fuck with these scammers a little bit.
