.303 is a really good round. The more you talk about the .338 Federal, the more interested I become. Would you believe Iāve seen .223 drop more deer in their tracks than anything else, except buckshot. Iāve seen deer get hit with .30-06, 7mm and 12 gauge slugs and still run 100 meters. Again, itās energy transfer. The 1000 FPE the .223 dumps into the target beats the the 2000 or more on a bullet that punches right through. Iāve also seen insurgents drop from a controlled pair of 5.56, while I saw one who took SEVEN rounds of 7.62 x 51 (from an M14) before he dropped. That one was about 100 meters away, meaning those 7.62 NATO just zipped through. Itās counter-intuitive, but 7.62 NATO projectiles need to slow down a bit before they can do any damage. Iāve heard they become more effective beyond 400 meters.
Shot placement is very, very important.
Itās only after you take your shot that the real work begins. I feel lucky that all I have to do is drag whitetails a few hundred meters down the side of a mountain, not dressing elk and having to pack them miles out. Much respect to you.
Slurricaine is definitely a fine smoke damn Iād all but forgotten about it till now though haha.
You basiclly turned it into a 30/30 or 30/40 . The later with itās heavier bullet & sedate velocity is made for cast bullets . Iāve done the same with a 358 Win & even a 375 H&H . Right bullet design / alloy @ a modest 1800 - 2000fps makes an efficent meat-gatherer . Look at all the game our forefathers took with black powder cartridges & lead bullets . Added plus is less wear n tear on older barrels made from softer steels . Now that surplus 1903 Springfield barrels have dried up . my 1903ās will never see a jacketed round again .
I think most of the ones they hype up are this. You wonāt ever hear (if you do itās a small article on page 11) about the many thousands of responsible gun owners who carry every day and never have any issues or shoot anyone, or someone stopping a criminal shooting.
Governments know what they have done, and subconsciously(or consciously) every gun in one of their victims(you and me) hands is a threat to them.
I carry an old Colt Detective Special lately, mainly because I love the workmanship, and it was made in my old home state, but if I am going out camping or fishing somewhere with bears and am able to carry something bigger I have a Ruger Security Six .357 and a couple other options.
I have an 1873 Trapdoor Springfield that fires black powder 45-70, and got a deer with it a couple of years ago. The 300-grain hollow point dropped the deer in its tracks. The old black powder cartridges definitely packed a punch.
Iāve been known to customize a few non restorable no1 mkIII lee enfields in my day.
Shortening them to 18" makes for a very handy package and I hunt both deer and moose with mine. I do a lot of calling for moose and generally get them in under 100 yards and sometimes almost point blank. Iāll bring the enfield if Iām the caller, sitting 50 to 100 yards behind the shooter, playing the wind. Ideally the bull comes in on a line the shooter has covered or can easily shift to coverā¦ sometimes like in the case of this young bull, they sneak up behind the caller. I love my enfield with a 180gr pill for that or the stag .338fed/210 gr nosler partition which I would opt for in areas known for high bear numbersā¦ they come to the moose calls too ā¦ as do packs of wolves LOL
An armed society is a polite society is a saying youāll hear that s a lot of truth in it. When youāre armed, you know you have to keep a level head. No fighting or nonsense. Only defending yourself from death or āgreat bodily harm (rape for instance for women). So if someone comes at you intending these things and capable of following through (armed, or a group attack, or for women a man could kill her without a weapon) then THEY are the one who is 100% responsible for what happens. It is still a horrible thing that no law abiding (real law where there is a victim) sane person wants, but if you end up in a situation where someone is going to get hurt, initiated by someone else, then turnabout is fair play.
While I donāt suggest you break the law, keep in mind most of the border is unguarded and private sales of firearms are legal in the States.

sometimes I am a very forgettful person and today while going thru my gun room and moving some ammo crates around, one of the crates felt a lot lighter than the others. So I popped her open and I had a total WTF moment as I found a project I put away for a rainy day back in 2019.
Gonna need my bible for this project
