@SHSC-1 my oh my!!! Looks like an awesome build!!! Havenāt delved into anything like yours yet. Last one I built was a 500 meter tack driving AR. 80% Lower, with matched upper. Milled In house, fixed stock with adjustable cheek weld, 24ā Bull Barrel, adjustable gas block, heavy buffer and spring, stainless gas tube, full auto bolt carrier with upgraded extractor and spring, MilSpec trigger group hand polished to 4.25# pull, and muzzle break, made in house from 316L Stainless and a Nikon 4-12x40 scope.
Took 4 tries to get the muzzle break the way I wanted it to act. Donāt have all the fancy analyzing software to ātry it before you build itā but have a great CAD guy, and I program and run the mill. Sheās a hefty rifle, but a dream to shoot.
Someday Iāll venture out and build something else.
Damn bro! Iām still working with the same single box of ammo that I opened several years ago. Generally its, a couple shots to zero each year and one for the deer. The few boxes I have should last me the rest of my life. ā¦.unless SHTF.
when I was building and tuning M1A/M14 type rifles as a home business I had to do a lot of test firing. I also used to compete in Service Rifle with the M14 and Lee Enfield no4 as well as shoot IPSC for a brief few years. It was kinda necessary to keep a fairly good store of ammo around. I donāt think I will ever need to buy any and I reload for my hunting rifles as well.
Ammo is so expensive up here in canada now and the cost of reloading componentsā¦ yikesā¦ glad I stocked up when prices were still reasonable.
ya itās pretty crazy. Pounds of Varget and H4895 were going for over a 100.00 a pound canadian during covid.
The price has dropped to between 65 and 89.00 but all my cans of powder have price tags ranging from 35.99 to 48.99 and those were not bought that long agoā¦ within 6 years for most of it. Primers??? Insane mark up on primers. When we can get them they are 3 times what I paid 5 years ago. CCI #34 milspec primers for large rifle semi autos were 33.00 per 1000 on the ones I have here. Havenāt seen any in stores here for 2 years and they were 95.99ā¦ Crazy Town!!!
Called rcmp today to see the progress of my application. They received may 1st and theyāre still doing whatever they do. Was hoping to do a deer hunt this year. Will keep waiting.
My wife hunts with me and she doesnāt have her PAL. We just have to be hunting together is all.
I would expect 6 to 9 months for a new PAL application and longer for an RPAL under this current government. I donāt wat this post flagged for being āpoliticalā so whoever it is that does that ā¦ please resist that urge please. These are simply the facts on the ground.
The current rcmp regime is beholden to the current political party in power and has been since the 70ās , even perhaps earlier. They have no desire to see an increase in civillian firearms ownership and ever since the MAY 2020 OIC ban and now Bill C21 , every government service to do with firearms has slowed to a crawl.
Hopefully I am wrong and you see it in time but I would not expect to see it till later in the year if not in the new year.
Heck Health Canada is taking 8 months just to process grow license renewals not to mention the backlogs at passport offices and many other government services that the current regime is running into the ground.
LOL , sorry, āserving Canadiansā is not in thier interest at all , especially when it comes to firearms unfortunately.
Also applied for rpal tooā¦figured I should since already doing pal. Being a cheap winnipegger, I liked the idea of saving money on fees.
Even though I took the courses, Iām still terrified of shooting my foot or something stupid. Not a round of ammo in any firearms unless at the range or at the gravel pitsā¦lol.
I closed my very busy business as a gunsmith and composite stock maker the day Trudeau got elected. I also did not renew my Rpal and decided it was time for just a PAL and nonrestricted only. Donāt need them knowing what I own nor do I want or need thier permission LOL
The OIC āassault styleā rifle ban hammered me hardā¦ between my now banned and worthless firearms and my business lossesā¦ my total losses equal more than 1/2 of what I bought my house for 6 years ago.
That pile of parts I posted a few posts back totals about 7 grand canadianā¦ now worthless and banned under that OIC.
Iām Indigenous though so I get an exemption for hunting purposes LOL
Fuck Em I say!
Wow! Sounds like a hard financial hit!..and pissing on your freedoms at the same time.
The guy who did my training was making lots jokes about boating accidents. I didnāt get it at firstā¦lol.
My wife is straight from the rezā¦but she has no desire to own or operate a firearm. Which is fine, but I would like everyone in the house to at least know how to handle them safely.
If you had to choose 2 guns to own for the rest of your life (that are legal now) which would they be? For shtf and wild/survival scenarios.
I ask this question because Iāll probably only get 2 guns, but I want to know them wellā¦but I donāt know anything about anything.
Iām not sure whatās legal under your laws in Canada but Iād want a 12 gauge shotgun and a .22 if it was all I could own. Shotgun for deer, turkey and other birds and .22 for small game. SHTF scenarios in the US means unlimited options depending on the budget. I understand a lot of what we own here is illegal in Canada now though.
Hard to beat a Dlask Tuff-22 seeing as you are in Canada. It is based on the reliable and very popular Ruger 10-22.
Second firearm of what is legal todayā¦ Thatās a real tough one man. I would probably have a 7mm rem mag built on a Defiance action or if I was buying a factory rifleā¦ an older pre64 type action Winchester model 70 or a Ruger M77 MKII if you can find a nice used one with a good barrel.
If I could carry whatever I wanted that āwasā legal before the Turd took officeā¦ twin 1911 commanders in 45acp , in stainless with no frills. A stag-10 in .338federal and I wouldnāt be caught dead on the battle field without my M14 in 7.62 Nato.
@blowdout2269 its 5.56 NATO. .223 barrel would have been a tad cheaper, but then Iād be locked into just .233
The extra was really nothing to be able to shoot 5.56 or .223.
Next one I build will be on an AR10 (.308) lower that Iāve got sitting in my desk.
Yeah, me too. My built SIG516 Patrol is too. Gotta have 5.56 capability. Sometimes you can find them rounds cheaper too. Plus, I only shoot brass. Everything else is so fricken dirty!
Though I also wanna build an AR10.
It took my wife stopping me from buying another recently, lol. Bout bought a Saint Edge. Iām a big fan of Springfield Armory. This is my daily carry. Well the one most in rotation.
What receiver sets will you guys be choosing for the AR10?
Iām in Canuckistan and in 2018 the guvment and the firearms lab decided the Stag-10 was a nonrestricted so basically the same class of firearm as a hunting rifle. Then in may2020 the very same guvment decided the Stag 10 was only made for killing the most amount of people in the shortest amount of timeā¦ so was banned by name.
We all still have them though as the ābuy backā announced in may 2020 has still not happened and thier is no sign of it happening any time soon LOL the deadline to turn them in for compensation is in October and no one has turned in a single gun .
fuck the guvment, Iām keeping mine.
Built one in 6.5 creedmore with a BSF carbon fiber wrapped barrel. Was a nice one but I sold it in favor of building one in .338 federal and a spare upper in 7.62 Nato.
Three firearms I will NOT be deprived of no matter the stakesā¦ my 1911 commander in .45acp , built by me from the receiver up. The mint Beta Arms/Norinco SKS -D that I bought in 1992 and is also super reliable and while it doesnāt shoot Minute of Angleā¦ it will certainly shoot Minute of Man LOL Like it was designed to do if need be. And lastly my Stag10 in .338fedā¦ sheās a force to be reckoned with , especially when the 210gr Noslers start getting flung downrange
All of my Lowers I purchased from JL Billet. They can be found cheaper, but JL has a few nice features that I like. 1 there are screws instead of pins for bolt release, etc, they have a trigger adjustment screw, and another is the fact when assembled, there is 0 play whatsoever between the lower and upper. Iāve seen $2-$3k rifles at gun shows that had so much slip between the lower and upper it was sickening.
I built quite a few with Hardened Arms uppers, very reasonably priced and accurate for the money, unfortunately they went under and auctioned off all their CNC equipment.
Now, I just piece together what Iām going to build, and buy a piece here, a piece there, and then start machining and assembling once all parts are in hand. One of my āfavoriteā toys is my very 1st AR, which I bought a LONG time ago, is a Rock River Operator that I installed a Franklin Armory Binary Trigger into. Itās as close to full auto that youāll get without actually being full auto. Itās turned a lot of heads at the range when I bust it out and start mag dumping it.
Primersā¦Jesus. I spent about a year looking for them for even a remotely reasonable price. Right now, my reloading press is just collecting dust. I should really get back into reloading.
