Regarding the old versus new comments, think of it this way:

I’ve grown tomatoes for fifty years. Every year, Burpees, and many other firms, produce hundreds of new hybrid tomatoes. I try new ones every year. However, I’ve never found anything that out produces or tastes better than Early Girls which were bred in the forties. Same with all the heirloom beefsteaks from 100 years ago, which I also grow each year. NOTHING new is better. Different, yes, interesting, yes, excellent, yes, but not “better”.

Seems cannabis is a crop much the same.

@Dieseldog381 that’s your opinion based on your tastes, though

The only thing I like about Early Girls is the “early” part myself. I used to hate Romas, but guess what? --the most flavorful and versatile tomatoes that I’ve grown were Romas :man_shrugging:

You’re literally comparing your taste in apples to someone else’s taste in oranges

Exactly. Everything was pure sativa in the 60-70’s, and flowered in 16 weeks. THAT’S why no one grows it today. Heck, that’s how Skunk #1 came into being, seeking plants that were manageable in a shorter flowering period. Once Afghan was invited to the party, the whole world changed forever.

@Coghunter “Thats it, a good pheno hunt Job wiil do it🤘🏻”

Finally someone who gets it.

Frankly, the idiots of the last 20 years in the race for the “whatever” have now almost completely hybridized any differences out. It all tastes the same and is all the same high. And frankly, it is all shitty. Smoke some of the hybrids from 25 or 30 years ago and you will see a difference if no one screwed that up. Case in point, unadulterated ‘cherry bomb’ as Mr. Greengenes released it.

I have been doing this since about 1968. Yeah, I’m old and was there back in the days. So I know the difference.

I now concentrate on stuff available here but keep in mind a lot of what gets given away HERE or traded is not available at the dispo. Pure Afghani Sativas, or stuff grown by little farmers who won’t sell you anything are the ones keeping the good stuff. SE Asian, Mexican, Colombian, or African, they are all doing it, quietly. If they are actually growing commercially they will sell you your cookies or ice cream or some shit. But somewhere these people are growing the real stuff that isn’t hybridized. And it is exceptional.

The way to get there is the way it has always been. Pheno hunting. Most are too lazy to do it. But that is where you find the good stuff.

Anything else is pulling on yourself.

Dude, why are you being so argumentative? You keep trying to convince me today’s tomatoes or pot is better. Isn’t that just your opinion?

Thank you both for sharing your experience.

The idea that weed is cut, trimmed, tested and available for sale in a week is truly stretching reality

Another thought, big cultivation outfits don’t want to trim 1000s of pounds of this

When cookie hybrids exist that machine trim so well

Dude, just because I didn’t agree with your analogy doesn’t mean I’m arguing with you. You could be the person that came up with tomatoes entirely, and that comparison was still entirely invalid to this conversation in my opinion. Don’t cry because I’m not agreeing with you bud

I’ll second @RookieBuds on the potency and terps on runtz and zkittles. Actually have some zkittles now that i got from my buddy and when i leave the top off the jar it will stink up my house with sweet gas. Solid 1-2 hour buzz off a small bowl, makes my body feel really light and good mental stimulation. Actually has become part of my go to daytime pain strain combo, usually mixed with some good kush, currently TK.

Although i do admit while i like some modern strains, smoking only cookies crosses for an entire year was my motivation to start indoor growing.

you are saying here gatekeeping of the holy canna grail by righteous monks only blessed by the goddess of sativa herself might be allowed to access the purest of cannabis strains and will never share them with plebs or riff raff. Do you know how ridiculous this sounds? Anyone I’ve ever met that grows cannabis on the grey or legal market has bent over backward to find common ground and share genetics of any and everything they are working with. The old “holding on to the holy grail and only keeping it for the worthy” trope died out with the last of the worst members of the black market. Good riddance to bad rubbish with that mindset. We live in an age of abundance not scarcity.

Same thing kind of happened to fruits and vegetables. As they created a more uniform, appealing looking and tasting product, the nutritional value declined.

May Jah bless Berner then

That’s another shark tank, that’s real. “Very late vets”, with never-ending “archeologic stuff”, just popping from no where in seeing the greasy fishes. I got my huge dose of Gratefull Dead, “secret line” bred since a century but looking and smoking like shit … same page buddy on this exact phenomenon.

Now Grayeyes isn’t really the right target for this, he “take for all” in your rant. He even gave a serious ref for free (i will not) that should temper your generalization. Ignoring it, like the Z gang, is a red flag for some that promote what you consider as a fake scarcity or dumb snobism.

But it’s also promoting these “fake vets” to cover a very lucrative niche “that don’t exist”
Because there is no rapper or Tyson making the belly dance on it i guess.

Well. We have the Z-gang, the Illuminatis and the Cake’s dominion.
I don’t find this outrageous simplification specially bad after all ^^

Thats a very interesting perspective  ive never really thought about it but before that year of cookies i had messed with some outdoor a few times but overall had very little interest in growing because how much good, cheap, local weed was in my area, some good cali packs too but probably 50%-75% of the flower was local. Covid kinda disrupted all that in my area and then when the dust settled cali packs were the rage.
