Would you top this plant?

An Alaskan company called Aurora cannabis. I got a lucky seed out of a half an ounce. It was so good it became a top 5 probably. Great genetics. I’ve never smoked anything granddaddy purple related, but this one was blueberry cross with granddaddy purple (so they say)….So relaxing…. I kind of want to keep cloning it until I get a spot to keep it as a mother.

I repotted everything to 3 gallon with Ffof. I had it in my garage the whole time, but I didn’t they were quite ready.

I was wrong.

Does that stuff usually come preloaded with gNats? because my garage is full of them now

Oh man i wouldnt say that, but growing in soil def brings gnats. Just get some yellow sticky traps, and lay them on top of the pots. Luckily they dont really bother the plants just annoying as hell.

Their larva can eat the roots so if you have them in your soil, it’s not good.

I like to think of them as flying eggsacks, full of root-eating larva. Bad!

Some reason they’re not in my tent they’re just flying around the garage. They must’ve come out of some bag of soil Most of them are dead now I hung raid strips everywhere lol

I wouldn’t. That’s a lot of lost progressive growth IMO

Do “this” instead: pinch the stem and fold the plant over, use a tiedown (blue) and go from there

*Edit too late, lol. All good

That’s exactly what @Foreigner recommended. Decided to top because I still have seedlings in propagation and I need to give them time to catch up… This has been a bit of a mishmash first grow :seedling::seedling::seedling:

Learning a lot

Fimming/training … just really haven’t tried any of that yet… I hear you, though, man I hate cutting off fresh growth… Once I get a little more comfortable.

The purple berry Kush grew back nice after topping about a month ago.

I think I’ve got my nutrients dialed in pretty well. Do you guys see any signs of nutrient burn or deficiency here? Tips are off green.

This is essentially my first grow so doing a lot of learning … this plant has been through the ringer

Tips of my leaves are doing something similar. Hopefully someone that recognizes it will opine

Somethings happening here. Maybe @George can help.

Some kinda lockout? Needs N

I just see yellowing in the new growth tips, so an immobile deficiency, probably Zinc, that happens when pH is higher than 7 …

I’ve been watering at 6.5 pH using this thing… Maybe I need to recalibrate it.

I’ve been giving them heavy feedings based on the recommendations on Fox Farms veg nutrients plus calmag and epsom salt … Been sort of waiting for them to show signs :placard: f over nutrient and was gonna back off, but still going strong.

They’ve been through so much It can be hard to pinpoint what’s going… Calcium deficiency, magnesium deficiency, lockout, nitrogen deficiency, heat stress, light stress have all mostly been ironed out.

Basically had to reset the plants with heavy topping twice I think they’re finally on track for the most part

I see a bit of leaf tip burn . What is your watering and feeding schedule like?

I would cut the Epson salt out if you are already using Calmag. You might be adding too much of Mag. Too much Magnesium is not good and can cause issues.

Also I see you are using Fox Farm Ocean Forrest soil. This soil has a good amount of nutrients already in it. And if you up potted to 3 gallons and were feeding nutrients on top of what’s already in the soil that could be your reason for nutrient burn and lockout. I would dial back the feeding strength and rotate waterings to feed, water, water ,feed. This rotation will allow for the plant to take a break from constant feeding and the watering in between will help break down any left over salts from the nutrient feeding.

Also make sure you let your pots dry out between waterings. You wanna water before they start drooping. Usually the best way to tell when learning is to pickup the pot when dry and freshly watered. This will give you an idea on when you need to water.

All good points and advice. Thanks.

Yeah, I’ve noted down in my journal already to start rotating water/nutes every other water going forward.

I started out not knowing that sunshine 4 mix didn’t have any nutrients in it so they went into early growth with bad pH no nutrients and I had my lights way too close. I’m surprised they even survived.

When I finally up potted to 3 gallon, I put them in some Foxfarm of soil because they were doing so poorly as you can see below… That helped a little bit, but it wasn’t enough. I had been giving them calmag for awhile and was talking with a guy on here who still thought they needed more magnesium so I had been adding a teaspoon of magnesium to every gallon For the past few waters.

So yeah, I think you’re right. I think they’re at the point where they’ve sort of healed back up and should probably start dialing the nutrients back.

When you do water them are you making sure the pot is evenly saturated? From those pics above they look pretty dry. Under watering can also cause symptoms of nutrient deficiencies. I would make sure when you do your next watering to water slowly and evenly.

Can you show a picture of the light you are using?

I’ve got them down to about a three day water schedule where they’re pretty well dried out after 72 hours and start to droop anywhere beyond that.

That plant on the left was damn near 90% yellow a few weeks ago… Looked like an old banana .

After adding the magnesium it just greened right up … there’s still a few leaves I should probably clip but turnaround that thing adding the Epsom salt was crazy.

I feel like I hit every damn problem I could with this first grow… Learned a shitload. Thanks to this community fast tracked what would probably have been years worth of trial and error.

And I still haven’t even started flower yet :joy:

One thing that really threw me off from the start, though was following the instructions on the vivarspectra lights at 11 inches away 50% COOKED my plants in early veg

You love your plants. Water water water. Allow plants to right themselves instead of chasing your tail. How long have they been in 3g ffof? You’re force feeding em what you think or have been told they need.

Bunch of stuff in your soil. Water it out. Patience and trust will be rewarded.
