2023 Massachusetts Outdoor Growing

I thought about going out to shake my plants off around 7, but I looked at the weather report… more rain coming.

Raining now, at 11pm.

Nature sucks sometimes.

I’ve got two landrace plants outside this year, one in a pot behind my garage and another in a partner’s yard going beast mode, both are Malana Village sativa hashplants from Colorado Sativas, both are showing incredible resistance to everything this summer without any sprays at all, just that 8700 above sea level cold foggy valley toughness that I was hoping for. The harvest is yet to be seen, but I think this one will finish and survive here in southern New England no problem, probably farther north just fine with a little more direct sun and a tarp cover later on, I might tarp the big one in mid-October if buds start looking chunky:

Malana both doing great despite the weather being all over the place lately, both have taken the storms just fine with no damage or mold yet:

Ya it has that sucks bro! Hopefully can salvage some smoke. Septoria has taken over my roses but not my bud yet thankfully which is weird haven’t had this in the desert before. @Dirt_Wizard looking amazing!

Seed I made last year I gave to a lot of locals did well, black triangle x goji og … this is one pic…

Love triangle plugging along…beat the “black death” that comes from leaf hoppers…

That sounds like a great hybrid to smoke, glad to hear it grows well around here

Looking good and warm and dry for the fall here in MA, in a pleasant break from the summer. I guess any surviving plants get to enjoy a nice long flowering period as their reward and us our rewards, here’s to everyone trying to finish a landrace sativa outside this year like crazy me:

Malana are looking pretty with those purple brachts and long, contrasting pistils!

I really like those weather outlooks, that’s a nice forecast format for “farmers.” Thanks for posting them and making me aware, it’s perfect for my weather knowledge needs.

Thank you! I love purple weed to smoke and look at both, but I wasn’t expecting it with these! I guess I got the purple chocolate pheno that was described or Colorado Sativas selected for it, I’m happy! Both of my plants are coming out pretty purple but the one in the ground is nearly black, I dug a ten gallon hole in the nice old pasture loam and mixed in dry amendments when I replanted it from indoors

This is what I have outside this season;

The taller plants, 10ft+, are the results from beans started seven years ago
indoors, planted outdoors in the Spring of 2017 and have self seeded since then.
They began as Train Wreck Haze seeds. Lots of hermies the first two seasons.
Sometime about 2020 an unnoticed Skywalker male may have pollinated a few
which seems to have decreased the hermaphrodite numbers. (Guesstimating here.).
19 seeds sprouted this Spring in mid-March. Nine were male, two hermied
quickly. Of the eight remaining ladies, the tops of two got pollinated, only the tops.
I cut those tops off a few days ago and I am keeping an eye on them for more
pollinated branches.
The smaller plants in pots are Kalamata Red, a God’s Gift and a P3.
Hope the weather is good 'cause I think they all need another 4 to 6 weeks to mature.

Heyyy, how did I miss this? It’s all my PV neighbors! Real Seed Company’s Malana Cream did really nice for me outdoors last year, and got pollinated with an RSC Mazar-I-Sharif male… both of them seemed completely impervious to the mold that melted some other stuff. Wilder, woolier Hindu Kush/Himalayan landraces totally seem to be the way to go. @Dirt_Wizard, how “worked” does the Malana Village seem to be in your opinion?

Here’s a shot from last week of the lone girl RSC Kumaoni in my outdoor garden this year (3 males, 1 female… so it goes, but lotsa seeds for next year?) She’s definitely starting to put on weight!

Not too bad of a harvest despite all the rain this season.

Dude, I am sorry to say that my friend killed those two clone mothers. He was keeping them on his sunporch with an auto or two that I gave him and those did ok but he thought the heat did in the Royals, I was super bummed!

Love triangle still going strong…

Ha, no worries, it happens.

I will have it again next year along with a bulletproof pheno of OGKB that will do well up in our parts. Hit me up next spring and I’ll get you sorted.

I put a Royal out at my dads place this year and it did pretty good. Some spots of botrytis but not too bad.
