@GrouchyOldMan you are intuitive, as that is EXACTLY where my future endeavors will concentrate.
If all goes more/less to plan, after this summer I will have enough head stash squirreled away so that I can afford to only grow between September and May, when the Tent is viable. That gives me 9 months to produce 1lb/yr of cured smoke, maybe 3-6 plants (depending on yield) every 9 months. I think that is certainly doable. The only thing I lack is to either buy a 2nd dehumidifier, or battle with my wife to take mine back out of the kitchen and outside of the summer months she probably wont care.
Yes, my roots are in hydro from way back in the day. My career has been in Instrumentation and Process Control which certainly applies to the this. The ability to control an environment is very appealing to me. Then, if something goes wrong, it is usually my fault, and I will learn and will strive to not repeat. I have seen hydro produce some fantastic results and I aspire likewise.
The main aspect of indoor vs outdoor “for me”, is that with indoor I have far fewer hazards than I do outdoors. Eliminating hazards seems worthwhile. For example, the graph in my previous post shows that outside (green line) vs the Tent (blue), the total time spent in the sweet pot was better for the BLUE, and really could have been perfect if I upgraded equipment. Outside there is not a lot you can do when conditions get real nasty.
I feel like the main goal is just to keep things in the sweet spot, that seems a lot easier to accomplish indoors, as Mother Nature can be a wildcard.
Whorlly is maturing the fastest, got some nice looking flowers going on. I rather like the plants habit, the 3 branches at each node seem to space out nicely in such a way that all of the branches get good lighting.
Was spreading some of the limbs out to get better light, using tomato wire. Accidentally broke a branch right at the node about halfway through. Quickly propped it back up and wrapped the wire around to hold in its original place. Appears to have worked, been 3 days now and that branch is still perky. Going to leave the wire wrapped another week.
OK, will take some Trich pics in the next day or two as 2 of the girls are getting close, pistils all turned orange etc. The other two girls still have very erect white pistils not turning yet.
This is presenting a challenge for me as I am only prepared for drying in the tent, I hadnt considered the different timing for each plant. Will probably let the first 2 girls go 20% amber then chop and hang them and leave the tent lights out for the last 2-3 days while the other girls finish up, hoping for maybe 5% amber on them.
OK, so it is going to get hot tomorrow and then cool off for a week.
The 2 girls in front are about 2-3% amber, probably ready to chop at the end of the week.
The girl back-right was the Runt, she will be next, probably about 5 days later.
The back left (Stretch) is at least a week out.
Don’t think I can pull off the lights out trick for the back two, they will need more than a day or two. I guess that after I chop the front 2 I will have to move the back 2 outside to finish so that I can use the tent for a controlled Dry.
I do believe I will chop these 2 this coming Sunday. Just in time, as I am down to a little over an oz of headstash left, just enough to see me through the cure of these 2.
Then move the 2 in the back to outdoors so I can use the tent for the dry. Had to order a new dehumidifier as my wife appropriated my tent unit for inside the house. Should be here Friday.
That’s a tough spot Mr. Wiz. No easy choice, especially when you consider your daylight hours outdoors.
In Washington DC (close to you) the day length is still only 14 hours. Your flowering plants have been getting 12 hours I assume.
If I remember correctly, 14 hours is right on the edge for outdoor plants to remain in veg-state. It probably won’t matter since you are only putting them outdoors for a couple of days, but that might be enough to cause them to start re-vegging.
