2nd Grow, Indoor/Outdoor, shooting for 2 harvests this summer

That might have been a mistake I made with the 4 zKittlez. In retrospect I kept those 3 gal pots moist all the time, seldom wet but always moist. Maybe if I had let the soil dry out in between I might have goten a better yield.

The roots get complacent. :smile_cat:

Whats the age on those?

I moisten the medium when I fill containers, add a sticky trap for gnats. Give it a few days then drop the bean to germ in container. Keeping the center moist…

If you don’t premoisten the medium it tends to wick the moisture away from the bean… sometimes enough to dry out the tap root enough to not allow the bean to break surface. Its a balancing act for me…

If I see the plant stall with lack of growth I water in center again with hitting a bit to the outer edge. I run auto’s in 3 gallon fabric.

Proper watering has always been an issue for me… I tend to underwater and stunt a few auto’s till I catch on again.

One of the reasons I just invested in autopots.

15 days from pop. They seem to be adapting to the backyard pretty well.

BTW, do rabbits eat weed? I am protected from the deer in this spot, but I have seen rabbits (and possums) in the vicinity.

They might pull them out when there small don’t know if they would eat them ?
I’ve seen lots pulled out but not eaten.

Haven’t had a rabbit problem with my plants and there around here. I used to have problems when I mixed my soil with blood meal and fish fertilizer. Raccoons would dig the whole pot up pulling the plant and all out looking for dinner.

Early morning dew shot, day 16 from pop.
Will be in the 80s all week. They should do well.

Looking good @MrWizard , we got more rain last night but nice sunshine this morning and temperatures going up here too. It’s almost like you can watch these grow.

OK, need some collective wisdom.

I want to “top” one of the plants. My motivation being that I have 4 of the same strain and would love to see tangible differences to yield versus LIFTFA. My thoughts are to eliminate the tall/short ones and pick one of “mediums”. Thinking that would give me the most appropriate sample.

However, I cant help but ask myself if I am wasting that tall gal by not topping her. Am I missing an opportunity that I should be considering?

I think I will top the one on the bottom of the photo. It is close in size/structure to the 3rd one up, should give me a good side by side comparison of topped vs LITFA.

Day 20 from pop.
Supposed to hit 99f today… And 50mph winds tomorrow…

Rearranged the order and gave them nicknames. Fimmed one of the 2 avg looking ones for comparison against LITFA.

Still trying to figure out the whole FIM thing, not sure if I am doing it right. Only did it once before and the result was strange.

22 days now. Havent had to water but twice, using pH adjusted water at 6.0, soil has been testing 6.2.

Found a little insect damage on a leaf so I gave them all a spray of Neem Oil.

This is what I am smoking now, it is the “Whorlly” plant from the 1st grow above. Only has a 3 week cure on it, but I am out of weed… Still a little harsh, and the flavors have not developed yet. Small buds, lazy trim job, but I think they are gorgeous! Same creeper “knock you gonads in the dirt” head space.

Getting warmer again. Piled some shredded leaf mulch on top of the soil to insulate it better. May even mound the leaf mulch up around the outside of the pots as well.

Fim only half way worked. I didnt see the formation I expected on the top cola, but all of the lower lateral branches did have a spurt of growth.

Please help, need opinions:…

  1. Bottom 1/3 of each pot is Ocean Forest, and the top 2/3 of each pot is Happy Frog.

  2. I have Dynagro Grow & Dynagro Bloom on hand.

  3. When should I start, and how much nutes should I add?

Soil is holding in the 6.2 - 6.6 pH range
Watering with 6.0 pH when needed.
In hydro I would go by PPM, in soil I dont have a feel for the variables.

Looking good @MrWizard, looks like you’ve done this before :+1:t2:

Plants were dry so I gave them each 1000ml of water last night, with about a 1/4 dose of nutes and then adjusted to to 5.92 pH. Calling for thunderstorms this afternoon so I likely wont need to water again for a while.

The pre-flower pistols showed up on them yesterday.

You can see now in this shot how my patch is on a hill, in between two rows of hedge. The hedge keeps the deer out, and the grow stealthy enough that folks cant see it unless they go deep onto my property.

Wondering if I should cover the front sides of the pots. The back is piled high with leaf mulch. This spot gets a good solid 8+ hours of direct sun every day. Wondering if covering the front face of the pots with a tarp or something would help keep the root zone cooler.

We must be on the same schedule, I got home at 7 and did the same watered and then turned the faucet on the garden. Went in and did a seed give away and went to bed. I couldn’t sleep and realized I left the water on :open_mouth: garden got a good soak.

First things first, they look great and you are doing a good job. Hope you don’t run out of your earlier harvest before this one comes through BIG for you.

That’s a good call. You still have loads of nutes in that soil so no need to be aggressive with more food. The stretch and flowering is likely when you’ll want to ramp it up.

I’ve never had much success with FIM. Consider going back to that plant and doing a real Topping. That will give you a reliable base for some LST or manifolding which is where you can meaningfully increase yield. Spread em out and let the budsites bask in photons!
