Afghaniganza Part 4: Gahn baby gahn

Gorgeous plants, man. I love the way they look. Just such a classic “Hashplant” profile. Love it. I forget, what are we doing with this thread? Haha! Is this a pheno selection for a future seed run? Or are you just checking shit out to check shit out? Doesn’t matter to me either way, I love following along. But if you are gonna do a seed run with these plants at some point, sign me up. I’m super-stocked up with beans at the moment, but I will definitely make room for these.

Thanks man! This is just kind of a rolling collaborative project. As a little background, I originally made the cross between Black Domina and Dakini Kush (Pre98 Bubba x Afghan Kush) as I was messing with reversing plants. I happened to be growing a Black Domina that I really loved, and I threw some of the DK reversal pollen on it to make Fem F1 seeds (name shortened to “BlackDak”).

Anyway, these turned out really well, and the bubba and kush genetics really made some super nice phenos, and I wanted to start inbreeding them. @man-bot grew some, found a nice pepper pheno and crossed it using 88G13HP pollen (BlackDak x 88G13HP jokingly called “major indica” by OG consensus after some confusion over one of my posts).

So now I’ve just finished making the incross BlackDak IX by hunting my original fem seeds and crossing them to “major indica”, and @8k_feet is growing several more. Once he’s done, we’ll get together and decide which plant or plants we will use seeds from for the next generation. And then from here out, I’m mostly just planning on refining it and stabilizing it by inbreeding and selection (F2, F3, etc).

I’m happy to send you seeds from anything along the way. When I want a heavy indica, I usually think of these “old school” kinds of 80s/90s afghan dominated indicas. I’m just trying to work into a groove of understanding what’s in these seeds, smoking the buds, making rosin with them and just slowly refining down to that heavy, sedative knockout.

There’s also been some other crosses I’ve made with it. BlackDak x Cherry Queen is the best of these, and @Herbie has been doing some great things with a clone he has been hanging onto.

Okay, thanks for the breakdown. I’ve been following this thread since you started it, but I realized last night that I couldn’t remember why exactly I started following it haha (other than it sounded like an interesting project). I may want some beans at some point, maybe once you get to f3, but I’m just happy following along. Your plants are just sooooo different from what I normally grow, it’s fun to watch. They really do look very good and very “classic” for lack of a better word.

If you’d ever be interested in doing a seed swap for some, let me know man. I’m an indica lover myself and am always on the lookout for some good meds for pain and insomnia.

These have also already been amazingly uniform for an F1 - they do have a good bit of minor variance but nothing on the level of a big poly F1 cross.

I’m speaking of slight height differences, root masses, and other really small things.

It won’t take many runs to get them true.

For sure man, I’ve got a couple you might be interested in. Hit me up and we’ll arrange a swap.

BlackDak #1

Just got done trimming the first one. It’s a little wet still, so into paper bags. Goddamn is this one coated. :+1:

Nugs remind me quite a bit of the Dakini. Smell right now is piney and woody, also a lot like the Dakini – really nice. During growth, it definitely had some pepper to it as well. I’m hoping to see that come back out in the cure. Solid choice for sure, and definitely a selection contender from mine.

That’s not fair to show freshly trimmed bud only you can smoke :grimacing::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Whatever ya call it. Its gonna be epic. Ya can’t have Major and Black-Dak #9 in a sentence without it ending epic.

Meet my invention, the hose plunger.

It’s cleanup day after the last grow. Time to get all the nasties out. I’ve bleached the shit out of my system and cleaned up a fungus gnats mass grave.

This next run I have a few tweaks. I was analyzing the drain system on my buckets and realized that the drain level would be about 3/16” lower if I only use an oring on the bottom. It still seals and I think I’ll get much better drainage without the top oring. Anybody out there using the active aqua system, you might want to pay attention to that detail. I’m hoping it stops my roots from growing out the bottom of the bucket.

No oring on top, better drainage!

Back to clean. Ready to move in plants.

Trimming / Smoking notes (To Fill In)

#1

Dakini Kush pheno with some pepper smell. Instagram model plant. Nice resin, perfect nugs, no larf anywhere, perfect density, great botrytis resistance, earliest finish. Virtually nothing to resemble the black domina, except the smell of black pepper. Drying smells amazing, rich and woody. Yield at the upper end. High lacks the heart and soul of this cross.

#2

No black pepper smell. More like musty, sweet and dried fruits. Some Domina appearance, but with more beautifully formed nugs leaning toward the Dakini. It’s more like the sweet/berry type of pheno of the domina, but with better resin and bud shape. No larf, very susceptible to botrytis. High is what I am talking about. Good extra strength bud. Not sleepy, but devastating. Two strikes for no pepper and botrytis. Good for the bowl, not for the goal.

#3 - 5

Unimpressive yield. Good buds, no larf, easy to trim. No pepper smells yet, nothing standoutish. One smelled like baby shit, but that phase passed. Equitable 50/50 territory on these. All passing grades, good with the botrytis and bud shape. Haven’t smoked any yet. Probably one or two will be great smoke but would have to impress me to compel a selection.

#6

The shittiest plant on the floor. Garbage. High sensitivity to botrytis. Shit bud structure like the worst parts of the Domina. All the worst parts of the Domina, none of the best. Ugly chlorosis due to leafiness and high density. Good yield, but too much wrapped up in larfy, poorly shaped nugs, huge seeds. No pepper smell. Haven’t smoked yet. A disappointment to your father.

#7

Hooooly fuck. I like this one. Low, but still botrytis sensitive. Blast of pepper to the nose rivaling anything I’ve smelled. I didn’t smell it until the end, but when I cut it, it just blasted pepper in my face several times. Late finisher, but smells dank. Happy with nug shape. Not quite Dakini quality, but much improved over the Domina – B+. Resin picked up quite a bit from the Domina mom, and quite excellent. Best yield. Short. A good smoking experience will probably earn this one my selection. Banger plant by all other accounts.

8

I wish I had grown this one more properly. This was my late substitute, but this plant is insanely frosty. Low yields unfortunately, due to me stagnating it and swapping in last minute. Otherwise, it has very dense budding all down the stems and bonkers resin. No pepper smell yet. I might be convinced to take a chance on this one if the smoke was out of this world, and pass it to the next round in a pool of a few moms.

I have a lot of plants to smoke, but I’m not smoking a lot right now, so it may take a bit to make the final decision. @8k_feet will have more options to add to the group. Looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.

That’s an awesome little gadget you came up with, I wonder if I could flush a clogged sink with one?

I think if you put a hose clamp around the top then it might work. I just need it to seal well enough to help spray out the junk so it doesn’t accumulate. But I’m not sure it’s enough for a major clog.

Man - if the project is about pepper… gotta be #7.

By that’s my .02

That #1 plant looked killer though!!

7 is at the top of the list so far. I am waiting on @8k_feet 's grow to make any decisions, and also waiting out the cure to see who else might have something to say. I may decide to include more than 1 plant in the next generation as well. I don’t want to leave anything out if I don’t feel a single plant captures enough of what I’m looking for.
