So, this is the first strain I made, and this seedling is not looking right, At first I was excited by the mutation, but im wondering if its too mutated. In this pic its 14 days old, and im not sure what to do to save if, or IF it can be saved. Yes its an Auto.
Really weird one , being an auto I wouldn’t lose time with it …
Im far from a pro, you might know more than me, so prob wanna wait for someone else, but it seems small enough that I might try digging it out and checking the roots.
Well, Its in a tester SIP, so im not going cull it but im hoping I can get it goin
Yellowing in new growth happens because of deficiencies in immobile nutrients like Iron and Zinc, perhaps your soil is too alkaline or your water pH too high …
I adjust the pH of my water to 6.5pH, the media is soiless its peat based, so it tends be slightly acidic. My water comes out of the tap at 7.7 and I adjust it with Vinegar and I also add lactic Acid Bacteria, which is also an acidic solution. So im not in soil. Not sure if that chart also applies to soilless like peat and coco coir.
Soilless you want to water 5.8 - 6.0. At least for coco.
I figured with peat being naturally acidic, i would aim for 6.5pH, and let the media finish lowering it. So far, it has worked out pretty well with my other plants anyway lol
i am with @George on iron PH is wandering a bit and i think that is ruderalis. used to play with them a lot their desire to grow fast sometimes gives you this all at once vib like you have here and sometimes you will great big elephant sized cotyledon leaves
That fooled me, seems anyway your pH it’s out of range so that might explain the deficiencies …
Well, I can hit it with some more acidic water and nutes and see if that fixes it lol
Well, I think you might just be right, I just mixed up my standard batch of Nutes, which has always came out at 6.5pH and tested it, WELL, the pH was freaking 9.02! So tested the tap water alone, it was 9.45pH so IT jumped A LOT from the last time I tested it. So I added enough vinegar to drop it down to 5.9pH we will see if she pulls through.
Mind you that is IF my pH meter is correct.
Ok so I screwed up the initial test, I just ran through testing everything i use indiviually, and I found the problem. My Humic Acid made by Humax is VERY BASIC. My water only went up slightly, I just tested a pure tap water sample, it was only 7.9pH, BUT when I added the 1oz of humic acid and tested it, the pH shot up to nearly 11. So, it would appear for some reason, the batch of Humic Acid i got, is in fact a BASE, and the ph is way higher than the normal 6.0 pH of the humic acid normally.
Sure , it can be saved… most anything “can” be saved… If its not a nute issue, it does looks as though it could be a highly variegated variant which will grow really slow until it gets bigger. The question is, are you willing to wait for it to start growing and potentially reap a diminished harvest due to it’s slow growth?
Is there any way you can start another one, then you can ditch this one if if fails to take off quick enough.
Honestly, I am using this seed to test a SIP I build, so there is no real time frame on it, i dont need it to grow fast. It showed an intreasting mutation on the cotyledon leaves, it had 3 cotyledon leaves instead of 2. I am not really worried about a huge harvest on this one either, so there is no real reason to cull it, but I would like to save it, even if it ends up small with a low yield, its the first cross i have made and the first seed to be sprouted from that first cross, so maybe im just being emotional not wanting to cull it lol
I am one of the few who will baby a seedling for 6 months and still be bummed having to trash it because it only grew 2" tall! All life is precious, even the less fortunate ones
If you aren’t worried about time, cost, nor yield, I hope the SIP ends up kickin butt, and that little seed explodes for ya! I’d keep it too
I hope so too, I even got fancy on the SIP and added an Air Stone to the resivour bucket so that the water does not go stagnant not sure if stagnant water would have been an issue but i was not gonna risk it lol. I normally do not cull unless the plant is fully dead brown and crunchy lol
When’s the last time you calibrated your ph pen?
Today right before i checked everything just to be sure it was as close to accurate as my cheap pH pen can be lol
If you turn it off and back on, does it measure the same solution the same?
