Same boat dude don’t sweat. Hey knowing you used to do the BBQ comp stuff and you’re in VA, close to where I grew up in MD, what kind of BBQ style you dig the most? I felt like the DMV area had the advantage of being exposed to all the different styles, curious which one you locked onto. I always loved Carolina style growing up but I’ve been digging the dry rub stuff as I’ve been getting into it myself

I used to be a food trucker, and there was another guy who called his truck “Feeding the Masses” but he made his logo all one word… Feedingthemasses… His joke was that he was: feeding them asses. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::bear::sweat_smile::nauseated_face:

@LegsMahoney, I gravitate toward Texas style with a va twist I guess lol. My rub is mostly just salt and pepper, with a just a little extras.
Briskets I do full on Texas style. Tons of pepper and salt, that’s it. Maybe a rub down with pickle juice before seasoning if I have it.
Hope you feel better soon bro!

@HeadyBearAdventures , that is funny shit!!

@CrunchBerries , back when I was doing KCBS comps

Do they have bbq competitions around here? When I first moved here I rolled up to Richmond for a chili cook off. That was one of the happiest food memories of my life.

Was it the xl 102 chili cook off? I have been to my fair share of those, and participated in 1 or 2.
There are quite a few comps within driving distance from RVA. You can find a list on the KCBS website :+1:

It might have been. I remember the headlining band that was playing was called rocket queen. The lead singer was this big black dude with a long red wig on and his name was blaxel rose. Lol. This was so long ago. Maybe almost 20 years.

Ha! That’s what I was thinking. Was it at the Coliseum/ 6th street market place?

I’m pretty sure I went to high school with Blaxel Rose lol

Haha. This is too much. I wish I could remember more but I’m pretty sure it was at the racetrack @CrunchBerries

Richmond is pretty eclectic in that way. Home to Gwar, Edgar Allen Poe, Lamb of God and Blaxel Rose.

Ya they started doing them over at the raceway. Good times!

I liked Richmond. It was a cool town. I only lived there for under a year before I returned to the beach. I just never found ‘my people’ up there.

Dude the DC101 chili cook off was like the most fun concert of the year when I was a kid. Bands weren’t always great but we’d get rip roaring stoned and then cruise around sampling chili, man those were fun times

I fucking love Lamb of God. And in my mind, Darkest Hour counts too lol. I think the original drummer was from Richmond.

I went to high school with the guitarist of darkest hour and middle school with the drummer.

I used to go to almost all their local shows in the DMV area. One of the best shows I’ve ever been to was seeing DH in DC at some college community hall or some shit in the early 2000’s. Tons of people packed in this tiny room throwing down to them playing songs off Mark of the Judas lol. The vibe and energy in that room that night was unreal.
