BeagleZ' KNF/JADAM Thread

I have just started collecting it and putting it in a small container with water and leaf mould . Time will tell.

Absolutely! I pretty much toss everything in there with a little sea salt, some leaves with mold or other imo growing around your yard then just add water and let set. Do not seal lid.

So no brown sugar? Just water with LAB or EM-1 added?

I have a bunch of extra small plants I need to chop and wanted to give this a try. Thanks!

I have started adding labs too from what I read they work together. I cheat and use my chicken poo in there too which works very well.
But as far as fertilizer this fertilizer works the best, but even just using cannabis trimmings its said to have all the nutrients needed to grow cannabis plants. Hereā€™s one thatā€™s been sitting for several months. Everything is pretty much dissolved, even egg shells.

This one is going to be mostly for fruit stuffs for the flowering stage.

Also adding the labs lowered the smell quite a bit.

Donā€™t forget kitchen scraps in there also any weeds you can find. Egg shells, potato peels etc

Thank you for sharing your thoughts @cappy_bunk!

This was going to be my first questionā€¦ Were you doing the proper soil prep applications and cover cropping, using the formulas rather than just FPJs etc. I would say most of the time you are correct, the minerals are often overlooked as well as using the correct formulas.

Also overlooked is the knowledge to read the plants your working with which only comes from experience and learning from mistakes and or failures as much as successes.

Sounds like you have developed a great system for you, keep up the good fight!

Maybe, but I would have an debate on that against a well made properly aged FAA.

I too take a hybrid approach with KNF and JADAM. I will say I have kicked the BAS habit though and that feels good.

Good Vibes :sunglasses:

Yes, I did the full shebang on all of my indoor and a good sized vegetable garden. Itā€™s definitely the case that most of KNF is just carefully cultivating microbes, and all of the products we make to use for light feeding/crop steering are icing on the cake. The ideology as a whole is a really good framework for understanding how nature works and how it applies to us as farmers. Everybody who hasnā€™t should alsolutely listen to the sermons.

No debate for me! FAA works just as well but one still has to buy a high quality raw sugar for KNF ferments. I save fish carcasses every year and have a half dozen buckets of FAA hanging out at the moment. Am stoked every time I decide to use it.

Right on! I went ā€œbackwardsā€ in that way and let me explain what I mean. When I made the switch I was, like a alot of us, pretty radical about how I approached this. My goal was to spend as little money as possible while still growing the best crop.

My past self would have laughed at me buying anything off the BAS site, whether it was a soil component, amino, craft blend, whatever. Totally thought it was a cop out. However, when I played around, I noticed that a very small addition of basic dry goodies really smoothed out any hard edges of the program, taking a little burden off the fertility side of things. Eventually, I caved and got some craft blend after trying to build a similar mix of my ownā€¦ Iā€™d have to drive a good ways to get bulk amendments at legitimate pricing, and the diversity/quality of the ingredients still wasnā€™t there. Black friday pricing and free shipping are a real thing :sunglasses:

In a perfect world with perfect execution and focus, KNF works to a T. But in the end, every trace mineral and nutrient has to come from somewhere. Itā€™s a lot work to wildcraft everything your plants need, especially when you start scaling up. If one runs out of something in that process, they are seriously fighting with time. Anybody can definitely do it but it requires a lot of focus!

For a bit more than a tank of gas I can get a big bag of craft blend, from which I take a few cups here and there. Definitely not a crutch, but in a properly firing organic program no one thing should be. Iā€™ve proved to myself that I can grow healthy plants without spending money, while Iā€™m no longer interested in that detail it is phenomenal knowledge to have.

In addition, I donā€™t grow my own cover crop seeds, produce my own rice hull, or build my own jute trellis netting (the way my noggin works, Iā€™d have to make my own twine, too!). All Iā€™m saying is that I had to check myself at some point, Iā€™m just striving for moderation in my life these days  KNF is a really cool lens to look at all of this cool shit we think about.

Iā€™ve been observing lots of ā€œbuild it and they comeā€ approachesā€¦ something just happens with lots of carbon, animals and time. Example: Green Source Gardens or Dragonfly. Heap and keep your carbon on contour. Goals, man, goals.

Frankly, I decided that I just shouldnā€™t be spending much time temp checking a small pile of microbes or carefully collecting healthy plant tips for a one off ferment. At the end of the day, food can be completely organic while still lacking nutrient density, so max diversity of inputs just makes sense to me.

Nothing but positive vibes and overflowing respect for all growers who choose to work with nature :v:

Totally agree on all points @cappy_bunk.
Iā€™ve come to realize itā€™s more than a labor of love, itā€™s truly a lifestyle to be lived

Appreciate you sharing your outlook my friend :+1::+1:

So glad I found this thread! This year Iā€™m starting my knf adventure. I have a bin that I put bananas, grapes, tomatoes, blackberry vines, and rain water. Iā€™m still adding stuff as I find it lol. I was curious if the jadam solutions would still work in potted plants, kinda like inoculating the soil before I put it in the ground?

Welcome to the rabbit hole @Jumbzz
Yeah, they will work. KNF/JADAM is all my house plants get for the last couple years now, besides the EWC/compost top dress now and then. Start light (1-2oz per gallon) and work your up as you read the plants.
keep us posted on your progress and observations

Good vibes :sunglasses:

Iā€™ve been a newbie messing around with the ferments and absolutely loving it.

You can follow along on my thread if you want and we can lean together :facepunch:. My thread link is in my bio.

Letā€™s go!!! 1 sweet potato, 1tbsp of sea salt, and some leaf mold.

And I have an unlimited supply of leaf mold!

That leaf mold is bad ass! :+1: never thought of using a sweet potato but should be even better.

Yea it was wild, the deeper I went the whiter it got. Iā€™ll take some pics of the area the next time I go up there.

I think it was to cold to do much

That was at 36 hrsā€¦ might need a better bag also. I was using an old bubble bag 160uā€¦

Just needs more time Iā€™d imagine. :+1:

I put a really good chunk of imo I found out in the yard in a scrap/ mulch bucket along side some rice and is growing like crazyā€¦

Oh wow, I love seeing the transition of color.

Iā€™ve tossed several types of imo in here and canā€™t wait to see the result. Hoping for just a solid block of mycelium.

I would agree with @Kasper0909 , more time. It can take a little extra time if itā€™s cold. If I know my water is below optimal temp Iā€™ll throw the water I boiled the potato in into the bucket, that usually raises the temp enough to get the microbes horny.

I wouldnā€™t worry about the bag, they will get through. Personally though I do prefer a sock or 2
