How new? They’re everywhere in Calif. but I read they suck to drive; an hour will mean an hour at the spinal/chiropractic clinic because the ride is harsh & seats aren’t Recaros. Rear trans is cool, dunno if that’s been maintained.

In many ways yes & the Porsche-snob hate it gets is undeserved! The 924 was crap, 944 needed a turbo, etc. I drove a bucket of a 928 auto :man_facepalming:(customer’s).

Mine was orginally purchased by a fighter test pilot :sunglasses:, then a rich kid, whose dad gave it to me. It had been sitting at the shop for months & the kid was a shit so his dad said fuckit, “where do i sign”. :+1:

Restoring them is expensive(like any old car–just add '70s & German) & mine had to go to someone else. It had bad karma. (And I was broke).

@Daytripr69 - I’ll have to check it out & get up to date. Always wanted to put it on a lawnmower. :racing_car: or old VW aircooled - their carbs & fuel inj sucked! My buddy wanted to put a sportbike motor in a VW squareback & keep the sequential shifter…

Ya the 6 banger 914s were really cool fun to drive cars. I always loved the 928 and hated the 944, not really sure why lol

Cali always gets everything first, I don’t know if we even have any c8s up here yet. A harsh ride is a small price to pay for the price/performance ratio of those beasts and I think they look amazing too.

They ruined the look of the Corvette with the new c8. I foresee many of them being destroyed by low performance drivers. Not many people in the us are used to driving rear engine cars, they handle great but get real real tail happy on the edge. Well at least the nsx and 911 that I drove were like that.

I think it’s a beautiful design personally. With all the digital babysitters built in it should be pretty tame for day to day driving, but the second old boomers turn traction control off many of them will end up in ditches haha

NSX is another favorite, not a fan of the new version…or the supra

Repairing a car the stoner way is chuck the fixer some bud I’d say?

Well I’m old but not a boomer lol that’s the first switch I look for is to disable all the bullshit “driver aids”. I’m talking with tuners now to get the vehicle stability control disabled in my truck. Damn thing cuts all power when the yaw censor detects a slide. Shit almost killed me when I was drifting the truck, cut all power as I was completely sideways and put me in a ditch when if it had let me power out of it would have been fine.
What you got against Supras? Fun little front engine rear drive car and the 2jz can make insane power. When I had my z that was just about the only thing I had trouble with were the modded Supras lol

Ya traction control can definitely be detrimental at times, especially for people who actually know how to drive haha. On my car it just locks up the abs on one of the front wheels which is terrible when trying to control a slide on ice.

I like supras, just not a fan of the new one. I think it’s underpowered, not particularly cool and a bit of a letdown tbh.

I used to hate traction control… then one day I was driving from edmonton to lloyd in the middle if winter. Doing 100kmh came up over the crest of a hill by a lake hit a pothole and ohhh shit im going sideways… before I could even react traction control took over and I was straight again. I miss ice driving in alberta lol

Dumping my $3000 used car after 2 years of being my daily driver.

Needs 2 new catalytic convertors to pass smog. $500 each for the cali approved parts. F that.

Giving it up to the California vehicle retirement program for $1000.

I will use the $1000 towards a different vehicle in the future.

Shame someone who may have needed a front end or doors would have paid more
But always easier to do it this way,

Does anyone know of a good shop or mechanic (besides Pedro works) in California that is familiar with and can do pretty extensive work/modification on a Suzuki Samurai?

The real question is why a samurai lol

I knew a kid long ago when those things first came out that lifted one and put it on 38" tires lol much bigger and the tread lugs would have locked together. It was a handful, got out on its lid many times

It’s kinda random chance that I picked one up years ago, as a kind of adventure vehicle. Life got in the way and that never came to fruition. I’ve been chasing gremlins and trying, half-assedly, to get it running again for the last couple of years.

Now, I’m gonna be driving it to South America to collect cannabis seeds, so I need it working 100% and I need it built up for a 15km overland journey. I’ve found some different mechanics. I’m gonna have different people work on different things; I can’t find one person that would be ideal to do it all. It’s gonna be a sweet rig, fully built–winch, arb bumpers, lighting, spring over axle lift. I’ve already lived out of it before for a few months. This is gonna be rough, though. It’s not exactly ‘van dwelling’.

Maybe these guys know who can help in your area.

Thank you so much! That’s exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I seem to remember hearing about their parts in the past, but didn’t know they had services. Hopefully a road trip to Oregon is in my future!

Edit: I’ll send the thing to Oregon if it means it’ll be perfect and ready for the trip.

Just wanted to let you know that lead panned out! I decided I am going to have them build it. I’m gonna do front and rear bumper, Warn M8000 winch, spring over axle with 5 inch lift, 30 or 31 inch tires, offroad lights, heavy duty alternator, heavy duty radiator, and then fixing every single remedial issue on the car, down to every last knob in the interior. It’s gonna be a beast!

Thats going to be cool. Those guys seem to be the real deal for you Samurai needs. Bring on the before and after pics.

Back in 1979. My first 4x4 was a converted 2 wheel drive 1976 Datsun pickup. Jeep front end and xfer case. Many good times.
