I think I remember seeing another similar occurence with this batch of freebiesā¦ maybe a bit of male pollen? Or just a really unstable selection ha. I didnt see any hairs at all on the chemwreck.

Right on. Iāve had people way smarter than me in biology tell me that males from a fem to fem breeding are impossible. Do you plan on using the male to make seed? I suppose that would be the real test. See if all the progeny came back female or not.

Yeah so itās confusing. If sex is determined solely by XX and XY, then it is 100% impossible to get XY in a fem x fem breeding.
Catch is, and iām wording this slightly wrong here, cannabis gender may be more autosomal, with the XX and XY just being more like modifiers. In that case you could get an XX(female) plant that shows as 100% full blown male. The resulting seeds SHOULD all be female still but it could likely go either way since again, weāre not determined solely by XX and XY.
Outside of that, there has been a TON of reports of those 91Chem S1ās throwing male plants tho. This is at least the 10th person iāve seen reporting on it in the last 8 months or so. Iād sooner suspect contamination imo but

Nah it will be getting the 
, canāt risk any stray pollen flying when Iām making blue tara F2s and IXs. It was a last minute throw in to this run anyways for some variety. Never tried a true trainwreck so was curious, but was expecting to see some herm traitsā¦ both TW and chem91 have that in em ha.

From what I can gather this has to do with hormonal balance. An XX with low ethylene but high gibberellin production could test as female from seedling but express male traits phenotypically.
Of course stray pollen is a real possibility, but there are respected breeders that would say what you have could be a really good breeding male (DJShort, among others).

Oh yeah for sure. Never was a question here, just an interesting oddity to report! Definitely keep an eye on any of those chem91 S1sā¦ have seen some people with really nice plants from them, but a couple male reports too.

yeah thatās kind of what iām saying. The XX and XY control hormoneās, not apply gender. Broken XX would produce poor ethylene and allow more gibberellin and show as male but genetically is XX = Female. And vice versa. Broken Y gene allows more ethylene therefore plant shows as female but is genetically XY.

When my buddy ordered from Atlas seeds they make a 99.96 percent certainty on all fems. Out of every 1000 plants we were told to expect a male.
I believe it should behave like a reversed female. Creating only female seeds. I plan on testing this out this year with any I find.

yeah thatās what it should be. Which makes the 10+ people finding males in the Chem 91 S1ās suspect that itās pollen contamination and not some magical higher male ratio.

I wonder if itās just the strain. Iāve had packs put out higher male ratios with certain males and lower with others.
He bought enough auto flower fems that I should find a male this season. Iām planning on letting it create seeds.

yeah I have a buddy, Grohio, that found 3 males in his 7 pack last year. He didnāt get them directly from caleb tho so chance of repack i guessā¦ but iāve seen a couple dudes on RIU, here, and IG all claim they found at least 1 if not more males in their 7 packs too. idk, just reporting what iāve seen/heard.

Were those from Chem 91 crosses or the S1s?
