Dendro's Outdoor Grow 2022

NOW THAT’S A DEFOL! I’ve never seen zipties applied like that either. Interesting

I didn’t have a chance to get to the feedstore yesterday to update my melon diagnostic kit.

Interesting to hear the hypothesis that rootbinding in the peat pellets causes premature auto flowering. I used some different stuff this year to try it out, coco pellets which were really nice. They have the same sort of fabric wrap but it’s easy to peel off as they get hydrated. I was also suspicous of the mesh causing interference, tried both unwrapped and wrapped versions with no practical difference. I also tried plant-in pots (coco and manure). My autos were flowering at quite small size but I assumed it was the environmental stress, it’s hot here. Around the 4 week mark. I’m not sure if the rootbinding was an issue, but I was skeptical of it for a couple weeks after transplant into the big pots. I’ll have to try some normal plastic pots and conventional transplanting next season. I did much prefer using the cowpots in a larger size (4" x 4" square) filled with potting soil, small area for seed germination dug in and filled with the ultra-fine coco material taken from a disassembled pellet. That was the best setup for me, but haven’t tried the normal plastic pots yet.

Nice to hear about those strains being good. The more I learn, the more I think just about anything can turn out OK. It truely is overwhelming to decide on strains though. I have a giant spreadsheet of strain comparisons. I was frustrated with the lack of information published on most, and wound up with some Euro genetics just because they had better info. Luckily started finding the more reputable/large-scale domestic breeders.

Next season I’ll be having an even harder time selecting. It’d be even harder if I get into breeding. I think another season of just learning and growing is in order.

Had to toss a SAD cola on my girl yesterday, bud rot. We got some crazy random rain over the last two weeks, and while I was taking some small samples to microscope I noticed a small bud rot site. Fortunately it was isolated, but sad to just toss a pretty big cola. Could also be caterpillar-caused, but I’ve been pretty good on the IPM, but haven’t sprayed this one because she’s so close to harvest.

Nice routine about the posting on the internet thing. Toss sugar leaves in the freezer, check the internet and come back to it. I feel I write too much as well, I like checking first thing in the morning before the little girl or spouse wake up, and before I head to work. It’s my favorite time of the day to just be alone with my thoughts.

Hey Dendro, how is your world this fine AM?
I got a great laugh, the other day, about the foreskin nutrients. I giggled all day long.

I can suggest a wiki read about sugar in fruits, Refractometer - Wikipedia.
The high Brix crew, seem to chase the sugar readings in the leaf.
I do not myself adhere to that idea, however the instrument, comes from the sugar industry, or the fruit industry, can not remember off the top of my head.
When I first looked at a refractometer unit, they were crazy expensive, now very realistic, prices.

If you have not walked around, the offerings at Seedheaven, it is well worth the hunt IMHO. I find some most excellent offerings, for very cheap money. Many reproduction of old genetics, autos, all stated as such.
One of my favorite hunting grounds. It’s in Norway, so it does take a few to get here. You get freebies also.
If you see something there, you like, DO NOT WAIT, grab it!!
Santero has offerings there, and some of my most delicious strains came from there. Hell, I just loaded up some of San’s, Killer Grapes (S1’s, seed I found in buds I grew out).
Also, my Hyp3rid’s, SAWA, SAWA Natty lines came from there. I also just loaded some of those up to a flower area also. Very safe, very honest, just small lot batches.

I’ve been between cycles, so lots of cleaning, the equipment, the pumps, pots, parts, stuff. I like to sanitize (somewhat) between cycles, the floors and walls.

Anyway, man like everyone, super busy today, going to rent a welding unit, to fabricate a gate, across a walkway between the garage and house. Using some aluminum hand railing and a scraped old gazebo, made of aluminum. I cut up all the parts now just got to glue, and fit it, then take it apart to have it powder coated.

Have a blast everyone, it can all change in the blink of an eye!

Anything resulting in smokable bud is definitely a “win.” I hope you saved some of those genetics. Anything that resilient is worth preserving.

Love the reads guys. Good Morning/Afternoon!..Much appreciated and much love! Gonna take some time to mull things over( yes @webeblzr I was laughing about that too ALL damn day, you inspire more creative writing for sure!) and once I get my head out of my um…head, I’ll be back after some chores. @FieldEffect Man, we go through the up and downs of gardening like hit for hit! Sorry to here about your gal, I just noticed one of my big girls has got hit real hard with the thrips(i think) again but her leaves went from perfect to terrible in a 24hr period, and just incase…if your SAD girl is in a pot and if you can, bring her in at night and take her out in the morning, as you know, even if it doesn’t rain the condensation can still really harm the dense buds, and if shes that bad, definitely separate her from the rest, all stuff Im sure your doing but just dont want it to spread and it will…I might be going on a mountain hike here(yes, I have to unplugg too, it certainly becomes an addiction) in a few hours as well so definitely gonna get some pictures for @LedZeppelin and all the supportive Fam here. Hope everyone is safe and dealing with our day the best we can. :facepunch::v::heart:

Yo, just got back from a sweet hike, got some cool photos of a nice size beautiful copperhead that Im gonna upload once I get home, but sorry bro, those early girls are all mystery, two came out of some bud mailed from outdoor in Colorado, probably '05 or so…, the other one is from bagseed found in DC area '19 and is definitely a sticky girl, just some extra stuff that I have a bunch of, certainly not something Id want to pass off as certified but it aint hemp by any means. Just have had some hermie problems here and there but as Ive grown more, I think alot of that came from inexperience, The two from CO. seem to be sativa leaning and the DC random is some hyped hybrid for sure but we’ll never know, I did hear of a few labs that will check the DNA, but these probably dont deserve that much research, just a shame to have all these beans and knowing there are people that could use em…big post with pictures later, hope all is :+1:

The Hills were alive with the sound of Music! :notes:

And the journey up was from another time…

We couldn’t even begin our epic tale without deadly beasts crossing our path(the copperhead is alive and on his way, an amazing creature both ancient and persistent, I have nothing but respect for all of our fellow animals)

More shots from on top of the Ridge…

Back home, the garden is starting to change over into flower mode, but we have a return of the thrips, at least thats what my guess is after all advice, reading, and scoping is done…

The infestation is only hitting one plant for now, but man, she got torn up practically overnight…hopefully they disappear as fast as they came, I have faith that she’ll shrugg them off, will hit with neem again in a few days(if only webe would just share his dinosaur vomit, she’d be fine!)…

But at least all the other galls are looking sexy and starting to bounce back from all my hacking so hey, always a balance(fingers crossed)…

Baumead says “Goodbye for now”…

All in a days adventure! Thanks for coming along. Time to pass the f*ck out…

Very cool! While we can’t have venomous snakes and scorpions in the yard, I’ll spare any of them if they’re more than 30 feet from the house and moving away from it. So far, the only snakes we’ve seen were non-venomous. Those and the lizards are most certainly welcome, though my dachshund would kill and eat them if I let her.
Those are some awesome views, by the way. We live on the side of a mountain, the ridgeline of which has several very large oak trees (3-4 foot diameter trunks). There are also a lot of deciduous trees, including one species I had only seen once or twice before coming to Georgia (I grew up in Arkansas). We also go to north Georgia (vicinity Dahlonega), where there are eastern hemlocks every bit as large as old-growth trees in Oregon. I understand Virginia has some equally amazing wild areas.

Nice melons!

Bummer to hear about the thrips. I’ve dealt with them in minor numbers - not enough to cause more than a little big of superficial leaf damage. May be worth busting out the spinosad for that.

Beautiful hike pictures! Love the ridge, with the rock wall. Gorgeous!

Hey All …was having a hard time loading up over the last couple of days, both technically and mentally, a bit of computer troubles and then having my better half decide that she was “taking a god damn vacation!”, I slowly realized that there had been a take over in the household. So a well deserved brake was taken from the normal routines and needless to say, we’ve been having a blast just rechecking out all the local areas that have been neglected for longer than I care to admit. Its just amazing to see how much is simply out there, so close, if we only look!

Very grateful for the kind support here and to have made so many friends so fast. Truely a place of great knowledge and even greater fellowship. I love and appreciate the chill vibes you all send almost every day and sorry, not sorry, to get kind of sappy here, during this weird time in our existence, the internet has been a surprisingly good place to find like minded, loving, unique people to ultimately collect for my home planets 10,000 year old breeding experiment…oh, shit, oops…wrong thread:alien::metal:…so um, anyway, yeah, just saying how much I love all of the amazing family here. Looking forward to many more runs together :raised_hands:

Got some mowing that I HAVE to get done but I plan to respond personally(I do apologize for my usual slacking) and keep our conversations going, I have been sidetracked over the last few days or so, though I am always eager to talk as yall know, I really hope all is well and everyone is having a sweet Friday afternoon!

Deff gonna be back after these messages later tonight… So we came home late last night and saw this beautiful Eastern Milksnake eating a five-lined skink right on our front porch so its been kidnapped for a week or so…Non-poisonous but these get killed ALL the time by uninformed people, adults of these actually will eat other snakes, including young poisonous snakes.

Thanks man, we have one in the fridge, I’ll let you know how it turns out asap! No browning on the stem, but this one is really dark now and HEAVY for its size. Real solid thump. The newer ones do sound hollow, its like they go from freshly solid, to slightly hollow, back to solid and heavy(mine are also darkening up exterior but that Im sure is depending) So yeah, hopefully this melon will be the one. To love and to cherish…
Hopefully yours are doing ok? That cabinet sure looks futuristic and very helpful btw. Bet it feels nice to be filling her up. Looks legit! Sucks about the rotting cola, hopefully you caught it in time, I cant stress it enough, a couple tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle, as long as its the 3% kind it doesn’t matter too much on ratio, sprayed right after it rains, or once or twice a week at night, has really seemed to help me when Im dealing with that crap, and anyone who grows will deal with it, happens to everyone IMO, just the amount is dependent. Cleaning habits, environment, etc. Sounds like your on top of it as usual.

Looking forward to seeing an update on your thread, your selection of genetics is actually really nice, a healthy mix of cultivars that will probably soon be the start of something new? Im gonna be checking on any binding on the one auto that I have going, the other photo/auto plant has not yet shown sex, it definitely has the long strechy branches of banana og though, hoping for a female just to see what we’re working with. Pics coming soon. Hope all is well with you and yours!

Jeez, I really had to scroll back, my bad! This week has been wierd to say the least, Im used to being at the ranch for most of my time, but it was nice to get out. I tried to take a look a the link you sent but I was lost untill it hit me that you are talking about using them for the melons! My addicted brain was focused on weed weed weed…
But speaking of weed, I will have to check out seedheaven, thanks for the tip, would certainly like to broaden my range of genetics. They(beanz) really are like baseball cards or something, I just cant help but pick up a pack here or there.
I pray that your gate went smoothly, feel free to post any handy work here, I like to get in touch with my inner MacGyver any chance I get.
The dogs are all well, time to go feed them, I always think of you when Im up at the kennel and just try to stay calm for my babies.

May your weekend be safe and adventurous!

I know right?! I was really surprised when we saw that big guy trying to cross the road. Never even struck at us, but we were respectful. Luckily, I haven’t seen too many of these on the property, not sure how Id handle one biting a dog.
So what part of Arkansas? I lived outside of Little Rock for years growing up, a small town next to LR military base called Jacksonville? Beautiful country, Arkansas is another example of a place that has it all, mountains, swamps, rivers, lakes, caves, even desert type areas, scrubbrush, just like that area alot. Ive been enjoying the laws here in Va lately but there is something about the lands of the deep south. Ancient like some of the areas out west, where I was born…yeah, I got around…lol…hope all is well brother!

Hey Dendro, yeah, the brix weed growers. use that refractometer to sample sugar in the leaf. They seek some ratio, at various growth stages.
I’m not enlightened enough to understand all the intricacies, I’m more a simple stupid type of grower, food, light, nutrients, time. I gave up on all the boosters, and the gimmicks of growing, and it is SO much easier, and I only do indoor growing.

The weld job is kicking my ass. I’m struggling with the small machine I got to use. It plugs into house current. I used a scratch arc machine, back in the 90’s, to weld some stainless steel door hinges, on a printing unit, in Raleigh NC, with out removing them, and worked perfect. Now it’s called lift arc, and I’m sucking real bad at it.
Best to ya!!
