Victory is mine! This seedling and clone tent is now exactly how I envisioned it when I turned the 2x4 sideways- cleaned and sanitized, everything nice and matching, well-organized, and I’m using half the wattage or less in 50% more space with the two 23w 4000k LED bars, might add a third soon but 69 watts (nice) is still a lot less than 100-120w that my B-Spec was usually set at:
Got a new old tool I fucking love, a scoop/shovel, probably for coal and ashes in an old furnace or wood stove. I actually got it like six months ago for $2 but it took me a while to get around to running it through the Evapo-Rust bin a few times and scrubbing it with a brass brush and Simple Green concentrate mixed very strong like 1:5 with water. That’s what all the old tools get then a towel dry and they go on the furnace to dry thoroughly before getting soaked in Fluid Film (foaming lanolin) spray and left for a few days before a final wipe down. This is from the Union Fork and Hoe Company from outside Utica NY, no idea on age beyond pre-1909 when the plant shut down. It’s absolutely perfect.
The rest of the arsenal a Wizard carries into battle:
Steam kettle paddle from a restaurant dumpster like the lunch lady used, nice hand cultivator from the 90’s, hoe that’s older than me, the shittiest trowel, and a Razorback transplanting shovel. And of course my trusty extra deep kitty litter box
This was a youth-sized hard tine rake that snapped under adult-sized usage, so I sawed off the end and clamped an old bicycle grip from the junk bin onto it, boom instant cool mid-length rake
Great idea for a clone tent. Make you stay on your toes that way too. Lol
Have you done any reading on water based permethrin? It took care of aphids over the summer for me. Those buggers moved so fast I almost didn’t catch them in time.
Hey buddy and pal. Do you make your own bone char/bio char? I’m going to cook up a batch next weekend and thought you’d be a good fella to ask about tips
Nope I don’t use it other than sometimes I take leftover coals and wood from the barbecue and smash them up into the mix but that’s pretty rare. Nothing against it but it’s just a place I haven’t gone yet, I can certainly point you in the right direction tho:
Honestly, after reading a bunch about it, there’s better and worse biochar but it’s hard to mess up pissing on a campfire to put it out and then putting the charcoal and wood through a chipper and soaking the results in some fish fertilizer, or mix with aged manure or compost/castings, which is what I’ve seen multiple organic gardeners on forums suggest. Sort of a very lazy mix of biochar and bokashi, honestly it makes sense.
100% agree it’s hard to mess up. And am in a similar boat that I haven’t really messed with it but I’m now in a spot that I just want to. Thanks for the input.
He was as good as his word, and said he’ll check out the site and consider becoming an OG Sponsor to have a thread here, he gave me permission to share our conversation and a special discount code for Overgrow (it’s OVERGROW hahaha):
Hard to tell in the tent but the tester was sticky and stinky yep, it helped that you gave me flower samples with the clone when we swapped, it tasted right. Just the right sort of dank purple chemmy indica with some lighter Jack terps over it was my first impression
Nice guy! Love to see people finding a niche and saying hey why not, help some folks out and make a little money. I looked around and found other gardening forums talking about buying Gnatrol from him as far back as 2019 on eBay under the same account name as the website, looks like he’s got good word of mouth on the ornamental and fruiting tree forums for fig growers in particular. Do fungus gnats love figs? That would kind of make sense, because as a sourdough baker I can tell you that unwashed organic figs are a great thing to use for starting a wild culture with, along with the grapes that are usually recommended. Their sugary, wrinkly surface is the perfect environment for all sorts of things. Noble rot in grapes is a fascinating subject if you are into fermentation nerdery.
I also like that he sends the full printed safety sheet with the chemicals, since half the stuff he sells is only safe IF YOU READ THE MANUAL. Seems responsible, BTI is harmless but Beauveria bassiana is somewhat unclear safety-wise for the applicator, and Avid/Forbid/Minx etc are extremely concentrated and powerful agricultural products made to fill a sprayer tank the size of a minivan.
That Pyrethrum TR total coverage fogger is pretty interesting, I’d love to board my cat and go on a overnight, bomb the house with one of those in the spring and not worry about bugs nearly as much. Besides the grow area we get all sorts of things coming in or trying to, like my yearly borax battle with the ants when it rains hard.
-wash Stardawg x JTR, put into drying corner for 3-5 days before binning it whole for a few weeks
-repot 4x @dinopartychucks ladies from Pro-Cal #2 pots into 7g fabric with fresh recycled soil mix
(RIP to the G-Unit that didn’t survive the defoliation and Pyrethrin, alcohol, etc IPM gauntlet. Hopefully a clone makes it inthe tray!). These will be the four corners of the 4x4 about to flower now that IDon from #1 pots into #2 pots, these will be the two center shorter plants in the 4x4 filling it in
-rearrange 3x4 now that the largest plant is harvested, level canopy and move one of the lights over to the 4x4, finish remaining plants on a single XS1500 and my 135w B-Spec panel, which I haven’t tried yet as a finishing spectrum. Let’s goooo science! Check remaining plants for trich maturity, not tracking dates on this grow just trying to let the plants tell me when they’re done
-check on clone tray for roots and give the whole setup a clean to keep things spiffy
-work through my backlog of trades I have received but not sent my half of yet, and promised seeds and pollen, especially packing up the Coop seeds to send a first shipment off to Gpas.
-post seedling updates with some sort of plan of WTF am I doing with all of these, because I already want to pop some more hehehe
Thanks to the traders whose cards arrived already for their patience, been having some executive functioning issues lately in life and I’ve put most of my focus and energy into getting my grow cleaned and reset and pest-free this last month.
Photos of Stardawg x Jack The Ripper from Badger’s Batch, selected and shared by @catapult
with me in a swap a few months ago. Harvested today at Day F73, grown in my recycled organic soil mix, 7G fabric pot, Jacks 20-20-20, 10-30-20, and 0-12-26 along with my usual roster of beneficials and inoculants etc.
He’s got a great Vortex flower run going with two of the F1 moms that people should check out! Good thing I shared those because I’ve managed to kill off all but one of the moms, I think she’s F3? But a couple users took cuts mailed to them besides the rooted clones I gave to Cat locally, and if you want to get one, I’m honored @JohnnyPotseed chose to put it on his new clones list, not sure but I think we can thank @Guitarzan for that one?
Yep, I got the Vortex #5 clone from @guitarzan and been cloning the hell outta her! lol
Got 7-8 clones in 6" pots now and the mother is in flower mode, i hit her with some BOG Sour Bubble dust from @DougDawson
edit… pardon just glad they don’t give out tickets for ‘typing while stoned’!
That’s fun! I just won some Blue Moon Rocks pollen from Doug and one of my first thoughts was “that would be fun to hit my remaining VTX mom with”, was thinking the best use for her besides just taking cuts once she recovers is to just branch pollinate her in flower for some more crosses with whatever’s on hand for pollen
