For full transparency: I’ve begun to pickup a fermented pineapple coming from the flower itself and on from one or two of them I’m curious how it evolves and translates to the smoke and if it stays till finish I’ve had plants before change smell 3 times before harvest so we will see but it’s the only one that’s not totally acrid so we will see, there is multiple different direction one could take this line I believe it’s got RKS pheno and other skunk type phenos they just gotta be worked  I’m excited about it lol

^ skunk male , I gave the other male “bright boy” the chop this morning due to his hit of fruit I let him dust for 7-10 days for diversity but will let my skunk male go the distance:)

I almost kept it to myself and I decided it would be more fun if y’all knew so here ya go

I found a resin male ! @Mithridate how common are resin males? And I was reading that Vic high thread you made, and in order to get a double recessive to express is by breeding kids? No bx or P generations? Right? I’m really asking thank you for your time and patience

Nice. Real nice.

Looks great! What kind of stem rubs are you getting?

Stem rub is straight skunk and I pinched a little flower off and it’s skunky and some undisclosed rotten nastyness

Resin males… the frequency hugely depends on the line. Can be as common as 1/20 or as rare as 1/300+

You can get double recessives, by backcrossing, selfing or line breeding, it’s all a matter of mating the right individuals.

A bc can be performed as an early recombination and test performance.

I’d say in 75-80 males I’ve grown out , not one with that much frost but I had one with some, my mentor has been going almost double me as hrs been going 35 years no idea on numbers he’s “grown out” but he’s only ever found 2 good greasy ones! Very nice :facepunch:t2:

Do Males drop pollen for 6weeks and die ? Or does the 6 wks start at start of flower? Or do they live longer than they drop pollen? Thank you for your time and consideration @deeez99 PS and like what about the long flowering males ? I would think either they don’t start to drop till later or they go the distance? Thanks

wow nice frosty male you found there, really nice man! I’ve had a few males that I recall continue living after most all the pollen sacs had been spent but I’ve never tracked the number of weeks. These are usually ones that were grown in the fall and moved out to the greenhouse late winter.

also thanks for the tag as I completely missed this thread altogether and need to go start from the beginning to catch up.

I really couldn’t tell you yet honestly but after this I’m going to pop a bunch and take a better look but it’s possible @acespicoli see the seed run he found no fruit just a bunch of different foul skunk and rotten things, BO and such and I got some pineapple express in some of the phenos so that tells me that there’s still a good bit of diversity in this line, I’m assuming honestly, but it seems that way

Update! A very interesting turn of events! The pineapple has changed one is skunk grape I think and the triple serration has morphed into this revolting skunk I’m getting no fruit the fruit morphed into this sour rottenness that’s pleasant:) idk I called my buddy over to compare noses so I’ll get back with you in a couple hours with a more detailed and complete description of the nose, it’s fantastically skunk ! Early flower I was like “meahh” but late flower is like “holy shit that’s amazing :flushed:” shocking almost  ps @TopShelfTrees1 @Upstate @slain @FeloniousMonk @Kushking902 @deeez99 @Mithridate @dbear  and I bet the 5% is super loud super resinous, what I got going now is loud but that 5% is going to be killer clone material:) just thought I would put that out there, I’m so grateful for y’all and our community! The free sharing of knowledge and genetics coupled with positive encouragement, I just wanna say thank you and anything I can do to help just let me know

Males can live and keep producing pollen for ages, a couple of months sometimes, and yeah the long flowering types
will typically produce for longer if not always more. They will produce huge billowing clouds of pollen and turn the surrounding dirt yellow if allowed to get big enough.

Awesome to get a frosty male! I think I’ve had maybe 3 in 30 years, so it’s always cool to see… I also look for solid structure and lots of flower and pollen production when choosing a male. as they are some of the few attributes you can visually select for in males.

That’s a nice surprise!

I agree that taking them long brings out the skunk. The line I’m playing with flowers fast and can be ready mid september, but old timers would still harvest it early oct along with everything else.

I remember reading that grape is a skunk inhibitor, to breed away from grape when looking for skunk. Is it true? Is there more to it? I don’t know for sure…

Interestingly enough, boron guy said many times that we have a better chance to find skunk looking through fruit peel smells than poo, oil, etc

Males will drop pollen vigorously for a month-6 weeks or so( not sativas) and then will start to peter out, with the flowers becoming smaller and less numerous as time goes on. I hope you are saving that one
