It’s always been a debate since nobody really thinks big bud is really in the GDP makeup…maybe Kens GDP is different 
Kens GDP and Grape Ape supposedly/most likely have the same parents just a different phenotype. And maybe that’s the GDP got everyone going crazy for the Grandaddy Purple
My next couple of runs is going to be straight GDP.

Although this might just be more misinformation. Many years ago, I recall hearing Ken and Bret were acquaintances or even friends. Both of them working on GDP at the same time, the line and their relationship eventually split ways. Resulting in the differences between the two lines we see today. (Similar to Dj shorts Flo and Blueberry. Same genetics, different pheno selections)
@WeTokeChronic I remember seeing an F2 of AG GDP on Strainly.
Kens rerelease of GDP might also be worth a look. Although he’s been a bit MIA @KropDuster did a reproduction of those.
If you can make a trip to LA, you can make and order with Kyle Kushmans dispensary for their GDP cut.

Yeah in the bay area nobody ever said that it was a big bud hybrid.
That’s only on euro seedbanks and online. I don’t see any resemblance to big bud either.

Urkle x Big bud I guess I could see the resemblance in that more with the long skinny branches but “big buds” lol

I grew out a five pack of Ken’s gdp over five years ago and two phenos were similar with no purple and decent flavor, one foxtail style, and the five armed (was growing 6 main plants at the time) mutant copper purp pheno that I went 7 weeks to try to reveg and it just didn’t happen. I just actually dusted a Ken’s gdp female completely for seeds to run through when I’m finished with other projects…there are some winners in there, but they will be all over the place in my experience. The seed momma isn’t what I’m looking for either and is just a donor. I’m probably going to get some gdp s1s to stock up on flower for the upcoming year and then rifle through some of these for comparison and hopefully find another momma… or two. I miss that copper pheno gdp and my buddy from the bay many years ago had the line on an elite gdp clone. Straight purple with orange hairs, no green it was some of the best gdp and dank on the planet at the time. I’m a sucker for 90s and early 2000 strains. My 2 cents… Be Well

Good idea im confused why kens plants are consistently green. Gdp is purple like its namesake, was never green lol. Try shoreline or csi for real gdp. Im not even sure how he sells so many packs of those.
Ive seen alot of grows here of green plants and they aint gdp, a hybrid at best. With that said i guess it could maybe be green if grown in 100 degrees its whole life in hot sun. This is real clone only gdp for comparison… the lighter colored one grown in summer, other in winter. All pics from notso and inspecta( 2006)

Beautiful early on…
Copper colored to black/purple was a gem that I missed out on, I wasn’t in the “saving” mindset back then, it be what it is.
Here is the foxtail momma, way different.
The other two seeds were grown outside, and I cloned one for indoor test, one seed didn’t germinate, well it did, but just immediately fizzled out. Huge buds, and frosty, no issues there, but not a keeper situation.
These were grown in 2020… Enjoy Ya’ll!

The copper momma was absolute fire, but all had a fruity taste across the board. She was super frosty, strong, and almost GDP flavor I remember back in the day. It was a good pheno, but I feel like there is something better, I’m sure. Only a five pack of fems, my seed momma was or is from two regular seeds, and she has that great fruitiness with a hint of skunk in there very early on in bloom, even producing all seeds, very odiferous fruity stank, but probably another green pheno it looks like. No worries just a summer project when I’m not producing flower… Fun Guy Stuff.

Hey you guys take this s*** off my thread haha jk. One of my GDP hybrids has that strong grape skunky odor I think you’re referring to man she’s pungent. Love the photos wish I would have taken some back in the day just as a frame of reference

General slang for the times was definitely… THE Grapes, very berry/grape flavor that is so classic and if you had it, you know what’s up and won’t ever forget that flavor profile.

mine are GDP, and they grow purple…
when it aint this hot…
my “low” was 90F. 
it gets up to 115F out in the garage. 
nothing turning purple with those temps… i have a hard enough time keeping them from going all dead/brown.
i only get 2 months (december and january) out of the year when it’s cold enough to turn colors.

Yours look nice too. Good to see a few people growing it. Theres a number of people growing gdp again which is cool. I always thought it was one of the better commercially available strains. Consistently good. I feel like were having a purps comeback… Need the old purple kush back too, where the hell did it go? Sr71
