I had a quick look at the specs. on Amazon.ca

1st thing I noticed was the price they listed (994.69, marked down from 1169.99) and thinking “naw, they have to do better”.
Then I noticed they have a couple returns listed at 768.68.
OK, now that’s interesting…

FREE is always better.

I hear you on that, it is a bit pricey. The fact is that they provided me the light and tent for free so I am a happy guy. The light is doing a great job but in the end folks can see how the plants are responding so they can make their own decisions about it. I do feel this light is next level for Mars but they sure did stick a large price tag on it.

I assume the driver is external to the tent?
Is it a Mean Well or something else?

It’s an Inventronics driver. Apparently from what I read they have a lower failure rate than the Mean Well drivers. It’s mounted on the top of the bars. You can see it mounted here in this thread.

I have the little brother of that light. Mine is the FC E4800
I believe it is the perfect size for the 4 X 4 tent. And the Driver can be mounted on the rack like dDoug said or remote outside the tent. The cord is certainly long enuff. Plus I really like the dimmer.
and can be daisy-chained if you have a bigger tent. But alone it fills a 4 X 4 with about 6 inches to spare all around. and not near as pricey. I got mine for about $450. Mine has 6 bars where Dougs has 8.

I’m hearing better and better reviews of the Mars hydros as well as other lore budget minded lights. Pretty stoked on that to be honest, while I’d love to have nothing but HLGs and other high end lights it’s not likely I’ll be able to afford em anytime soon

Fun fact, my 600 Rspec is leaning against the wall in my grow room while this one is center stage and I am not disappointed.

That’s about as good as a review gets I’d reckon

My biggest problem with HGL is that they hold their value and don’t come up often in the ussd market!

 /

I’ve got the Mars Hydro FC3000 for my 3x3 and it’s great, the driver is also removable.

I love how the folks at Mars Hydro looked at people getting in and out of their cars and then went all “WAIT A SECOND!?!” :open_mouth: :bulb: :exclamation: :exploding_head:

Edit: on the topic of drivers… I love the concept but dislike the amount of cable provided from the ballast to fixture. When I tried to set-up the lights with the ballasts removed I could never get the cables set up in a way I felt both safe and comfortable for me to lock it down. I asked MH if they sold extension cables but they don’t. Looking online I’ve only found 3rd party cables and since I need 4x of them I don’t want to buy “made in my garage” brand items from someone I don’t know… but would in a heart beat if I know em! Only cable builders I know are in sound, not cheap, and although owe me a favour or three it’s not happening during a pandemic.

I feel like I havent really gotten an opportunity to see what my HLG 225 is really capable of, after this run when the 3x3 becomes the dedicated flower tent I’m hoping I can really put it through its paces. For the 2x4 veg tent I like the idea of more than one lamp to be able to adjust for differing plant heights if I’m keeping mothers and starting seeds

I feel this. My 2x4 has a SF2000; if I can get any 2x HLG 100, SF1000 or TS1000 then I’ll outright buy a 3x3 for my SF2000 and then have a fifth tent!

Ha! Yea I’ve got two of the SF1000s in there now actually flowering my seed run, always find myself wondering if a higher powered light(s) would make any marked improvements on what I’m seeing so far but technically it ain’t broke so I prolly shouldn’t fix it?

from my experience it often can create as many problems as they solve. @DougDawson mentioned he hasn’t even turned his light up on full yet and may not need to as it’s all working so darn well (as we can see in the plant porn posted above!)

Solid point, more may not always be more better

In the case of light I would agree, once you get to a certain point the plants just can’t use any more.
