Growing Trees with Meesh 2021

Just a cut (or where you have sewn together)

glue or otherwise attach magnets on each side.

Or sew in a zip then cut.

Looking good, attaching all the trellises will make it all super stable too just in case you accidentally get some 9 footers.

So, is that gonna be 6 trees? as I’m seeing it… Very cool. Super good vibes sent your way/ I love watching this plant in action! peace

@Pedro_Bann we bought a couple magic screens if you know what those are. They cheapy screen doors that you tack on door frames. They are held up by tacks and velcro. Split in the middle with magnets to snap the centers back when you walk through. We had the same general idea. It’s a weird plastic and most glue either didn’t work or burned holes in it. We sealed the sewn seams then used pvc glue over the stich and that seems to work. We are almost thinking we could use duct tape on both sides before we cut so we’ll have less eventual fraying. The net is pretty thick but it can still fray. We may use the magic screen door then attach some of the practice piece of ag net Dad got originally to experiment on for another layer of bug protection just over the door almost like an anti-chamber.

@GMan it’s 3 rows of 3. It will be 9 plants 76 inches apart to be exact. lol

The bottom legs of each trellis is staked with rebar. There are holes drilled in both sides of the legs where the pvc stays secure with zip ties. Really simple and super sturdy for those of you tuning in for the first time this year and weren’t here last year when we designed and built the trellises. Don’t know if the bug enclosure will be successful but the trellises were everything last year. Made my life so much better in bud. We did have to makeshift a special layer for that cheese plant as I wasn’t expecting a 9 footer. lol

If all else fails just a split with and extra peice of net hanging over both sides.

I wish I could come and be a part of the working bee to get it all enclosed.

Seriously though… After working on the net for 2 straight Sundays. Dad and I were over it until this Sunday again. It’s a beast and we are mostly on the concrete on our knees or squatting half the time or all the way on the ground either trying to fold it or sewing it. Once we get the last 10 feet on the end we will be done sewing, but then we have to refold that thing like an accordion from each side, so when we get the huge net up top we can just pull each end and basically drag it over the side. Luckily it’s fairly slippery so the huge folds should just come loose and drag it down. We were both tore up from all that time on the concrete in weird positions. My back was killing me and poor Dad had back surgery at one point and has 20 years on me, so he suffered even worse. We both agreed that we would both rather do hard labor in the sun for 4 hours shoveling, and using the mattock than work on the net. lol I’m not looking forward to doing the last of it Sunday, that’s for sure! Luckily the thing lasts several years. I wish you were here to help put that thing up and the rest of the structure as well. Between you and Dad, I’m certain I would have a kick ass door in that thing in no time!

It will be all the sweeter when you are all smoking the product after harvest.
It’s one of those things that only needs doing once too which will result in lots less work for many seasons to come.

It’s so frustrating! I keep checking these plants every day to try and sex them and I can see their tiny bits in the loupe, but no stems or hairs yet. Then suddenly I’ll .check and a pistil shows that seems so long it should be visible to the naked eye. How long does it take before they give me something?

After crazy inspection on them today, I saw a tiny pistil hiding in the last Sour Dubb. I must have looked at it 10 times before I decided that it actually was one. Seems they were both fems. The writing on the seed tube was so small I wasn’t sure they were marked fems. They were either fem seeds or it was dumb luck. Anyway, of course the plant I didn’t care about showed me sex. I already knew I had one, so I wasn’t worried at all on that one. The rest (of course) of the ones I’m waiting on are all the strains that I don’t have a female of yet. The remaining MW of course isn’t telling me anything either. Hoping that’s a sign that it’s a female as the males showed up way early.

The Azad Kashmir 2 had big early obvious balls, I green wasted him this morning. I still have the weird little mutant though. I actually watered it today. Why? No idea. It’s tiny and not in my way, so I let the ugly freak live a bit longer. It’s gonna get root bound soon enough, although the thing looks about as stunted as it gets. It just doesn’t seem to grow.

I should have a visit from @cannabissequoia anytime now this evening. He’s flying out of LA for his move to Hawaii and that’s right down the street from me. You can carry an ounce of bud on the plane, so I’ll send him off with something. I’ll have to see what flavor he wants. lol

@corey and @oleskool830 I mailed out your seeds today. Sorry for the delay. First chance I had. Let me know when they arrive and enjoy!

Wow, he’s already moving? I thought he had a bad ass garden where he was living, but, If going to Hawaii was an option it would be an easy choice for me. It’s so beautiful there and the pot tastes so beautiful, heh… that was a long time ago but unforgettable.

Best vibes and wishes @cannabissequoia! Which island are you going to? It wouldn’t fucking matter would it? lol. Pipe in from @Meesh’s to let us hear from your mainland self before you jet off. peace

I have the gardener’s patience of a saint. Been growing a lilac bush from a 3 inch twig for 3 years, the flower you all loved took 3 years. Took 3 years before I could let blueberries grow on my dwarf etc…

Except when it’s time for these doggarn plants to show me their sex! It’s driving me almost to madness! :joy: I dont care how many microscopic pics I look at on the web of the sexes, I can not tell the difference between them when they are tiny. I have to see a pistil or stem. It’s killing me! I want to know NOWWWWWWWW!!! I feel like Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka! I want all female plants NOW, Daddy! Okay, Rant over, until they piss me off again tomorrow!

Just looked back, it’s been 5 days since their first feed. Note to self… start a batch of bat guano tea so it can cook in the sun tomorrow. They can feed on the weekend again. I also have a bag of earthworm castings @Sunvalley can I make a tea with those? If so how much would I soak in a 5 gallon bucket. Never made vermicompost tea before. Keep in mind I don’t have a bubbler, I’m just stirring the stuff in the sun for a couple days.

1 cup per 5 gallon should be enough … I wouldn’t bubble it if it’s for soil drench… rather do stirs if you have the time. If it’s for foliar application you can bubble it. They have shown a compost extract to be more effective than AACT in soil drench as it doesnt coat the roots inhibiting the ability for them.to take up nutrients. Biodynamic stiring or singing into the barrel as they call it produces a great number microorganisms and that good bacteria you need in a shorter period than bubbling up a tea too. Basically chuck your castings into a filter bag, dunk it into the bucket and stir that sucker every 30 minutesfor about 2 minutes if you can, through out the day. You want to get the stir to make a vortex. That’s how I do it anyway

Happy Friday hope all is well on the west coast

My first zinnia bloomed finally feel like I’ve been watching it forever not so patiently waiting lol, nothing compared to ur plants showing sex tho that is a whole different level of frustration, that I don’t envy ATM

I hope I can find some of those this year again. I had them two years ago and they really popped here. They really made the yard look nice. I’m so busy with remodeling this place and the property, that I never seem to get seeds in time. I got them from some local farmers/nursery before and I hope she has some this year. Probably gone by now. If our Farmers Market starts tomorrow I might see her there with some. I think I’ll call to see if she can bring me some if she has them.

Yours looks great. And, they only get better all summer. peace

@Sunvalley Thank you! That’s what I usually do with the teas I make, just stir them and make a whirlpool. Good info there! Appreciate you!

@Budafly Gorgeous! Yellow flowers have been my thing this year! I can’t get enough of them. I love how zinnias have tiny little star shaped things right around the centers. It will form even more as the flower matures. The flowers last a long time too! Yay for first flowers!

Yeah the compost tea is much easier than making the worm tea. Plus you can just dump the bag’s contents as mulch or such.

Lovely flowers @Meesh, happy Friday to you too

I agree with @Sunvalley. Another advantage in not bubbling or brewing tea and doing an extract instead is it eliminates the risk of over brewing and out competing the beneficial bacteria and fungi. Unless of course you are a guru on the microscope there’s no way of telling exactly the quality of an ACT. According to Dr Elaine Ingham massaging a compost bag into your water for 2 minutes is enough to suspend a lot of what you need.

Only disadvantage is the extract uses more compost, which is no biggie

Aloha friends!

Cousin @Meesh was unimpressed by my airline paranoia but still graciously rolled me & my buddy a couple & we are so lucky to know you. :hugs: :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

After landing in Kona I had a fat joint going at the airport. :man_shrugging: :smoking:
And airport police were not impressed & so I extinguished it & had the rest later. My buddy was patting himself on the back after telling me not to. Apparently I was smoking out the taxi waiting line. :joy:

Got some local :herb: , got a car… All good for now. :+1:

@GMan - I fled the torturous place I was living at to Hawai’i Island aka Big Island for numerous reasons, will go into more detail & maybe update my way-outdated thread.

All my seeds are in cold storage on the mainland until I get some land to start popping beans… 43 strains to hunt through, going to take the Red Cherry Berry F3 to F5->
