@FattyRoots You have a great point! I do prune the crap out of them, but every little bit helps. Eventually here I practically bonsai them (giant version) remove all the branches below the first layer of the trellises and supercrop them as much as possible. Last year I barely had any larf at all. The little we did have, I threw in the trash. I like to just have giant buds at the finish and no energy wasted on the pain in the ass to trim larf. I don’t do traditional Christmas tree style plants. Mostly because first, I’m lazy and hate trimming that crap and secondly, I’d rather have more quality than quantity. Actually, the supercropping last year yielded more bud with less bud sites than the plant I didn’t supercrop.

@WubbaLubbaDubDub I think I have more bees and lady bugs this year than any other year before. My giant shasta daisy and lavender bushes seem to bring the bees in droves. I was thinking of buying some lady bugs from Home depot as soon as the bug net goes up for inside, just to kill anything that may remain inside the space. I’m on the fence about it as they won’t have much to eat inside there once they get the few aphids or whatever that survive my onslaught of spinosad once we close it off. They will end up starving to death in there. So I dunno. lol

As far as the soil test goes… I’ve been doing it now for 3 years and I recommend it for anyone with a garden. I’ve noticed the more balanced my soil gets every year the less insect problems I have (aside from the fucking moth and their caterpillars). I don’t get overpopulations of any particular one. One year I had a major earwig overpop that decimated all of my spring seedlings. Also, it takes all the guesswork out of fertilizing and I can just tell my soil has gotten better and better as the years go by. Plus it’s cheaper to buy the amendments premixed instead of buying bags of stuff you need like a smidge of and will never use again taking up space and its cheaper. 3 years ago, I needed over 100 pounds of amendments, last year 75 lbs and this year only 50… So that tells me something right there. Soil tests are cheap. Most county agricultural extension offices offer soil tests for like 8 bucks. It baffles me that more folks don’t do it to grow their weed.

@SamwellBB Just WOW! Wow! Those are so cool! How long did it take for them to flower? Many years or do they do it the first year?

@cannabissequoia What are boobs supposed to smell like? lol

Anyways, I’m rambling. I had an extra Iced Americano today. I still have one more post to journal my grow today. When I’m feeling social, I’m like the energizer bunny of posts. face palm

Yes. I log every detail. My memory is crap. I check back in this journal for things often actually.

Topped all the plants today except the 2nd batch (I think? Really Meesh? I have to go check now.)
I know I cut off the bottom few branches of the females, but I didn’t see much else I needed to tackle today. Made a plant tea concoction for them. Been stirring it on the regular.

Dad will be here tmw. I’m ready to get the net done and over with. Gotta sew the 10 feet to the bottom now and attempt to fold the giant beast in a way that makes it easy to install. Dad secured 60% of the trellises down on Thursday. So he needs to finish that still, then he’ll need my help with the extensions for the structure. This is all for this week, more than likely. Then the net goes up. Probably the week after. Hallelujah! Just in time for the stretch and budding!

Looking forward to the show

What’s the PWC? Looking good. You can take plants into the dark a couple of nights for 12/12 and they will show sex in a few days. Otherwise, when outside, they take around 3 weeks to show. I’m going through the same thing here. I don’t like to go above a 1 gallon pot until I know the sex because it’s so much work for nothing if one turns out male.

I’ll have to post a few of my flowers coming in around the yard. It’s nice and green this year. I hope it holds! The drought was already obvious by this time last year.

So, we are having another girl! The last Azad Kashmir spit out a bunch of pistils after being topped yesterday. Sometimes they just need a bit of stress to give it up. Nothing on the other 12 yet.

Got a few surprises today!

Plant from last year that I thought was an annual (it may be) came back from nowhere. I believe this is called Speedwell aka Veronica

My new Milkweed plant is blooming. I’m trying to grow some Monarch butterflies

Well, the net is done. It was a rough day for me quite honestly and not because of the net. I haven’t stopped thinking about Dad since he left. I yelled at him again, but only out of fear. We were working on the net and there is only so much space in which to manipulate this beast while we are working on it. Dad had left the big metal leveler which is pretty sharp with a handle and some bigger garden tools on the side of the garage. Well I have a room in my garage which is basically a shed and all the shovels, lawn mower etc… go in there. Anyway, for a bit we were working on complete opposite sides of the garage, and he bumps into the tools cuz he’s not paying attention, doesn’t fall, but still. So, I must have told him 4 times Dad please just put those tools away. He doesn’t and sure enough, at some point he trips and practically falls this time. Scared the straight bejeezus out of me and I straight yell at him. Like goddamn it, I asked you to put those away like 4 times now! Well, he yells back at me (Dad never yells) Stop yelling at me! Of course, I’m recovering from my mini heart attack, and apologized and told him he just scared me. I start really noticing Dad’s mortality, I mean he’s not as steady on his feet anymore, his coordination isn’t that great and at 70 you barely bump anything and you cut right through your skin, because it gets thin with age. You know, if he tripped out in the dirt patch or something he might get up without a major incident, but if he falls on the concrete in the garage and all the cabinets, sharp items and general garage items whatever, more than likely at 70, its gonna be an emergency room trip. You know my Dad was 21 when I was born, so he was always young when I was growing up. Now I’m 5 years from being a senior citizen myself and honestly in my front brain, I know he’s a senior, but it has been very hard for me to really grasp that on a deeper level. Don’t get me wrong, Dad is in really good health, but that doesn’t change the effects of aging. I believe I asked him to undertake too big of a project this year. Didnt really think it through. He may have just been off more today because he was here 3 days last week working and I think it was just too much. I started really worrying and thinking it’s not gonna be long before I cant ask him to help me with my projects anymore. It’s not that I care about the projects themselves or that it’s about me or anything, just that Dad wont be with me for these things for too much longer. Luckily we are almost ready to get the net up and stuff and then he can chill. I’m thinking next year, I may just have him come on Sundays and give him projects working on the plants and less labor intensive things, so we can still have our Sundays in the garden without me worrying about him getting hurt. I don’t know about you guys, but even though maturity kicks in, in our minds we feel the same as when we were 30 even when we are 50. I know that my brain feels younger than my body is. It can be difficult to reconcile those things sometimes. I just can’t have Dad running around on these projects thinking he’s 40 and can just do things the same way now that he’s 70. Just terrifies me. I may have had some weird denial about his aging myself. I don’t know. I guess I really understood his fragility today.

Anyway, The bug enclosure should be up and running by this time next week, whether we have finished making a door for it by then, I’m not sure, but we are almost there

Never think about your age, just your capabilities. I turn 50 in a few months and still outwork most 20 and 30 years younger. I have also broken my back in my 20’s. The only thing we can do is wake up every day, realize the tools we have at our disposal and use them the best we can. What I cannot do these days physically I make up for with working smarter. As Clint said though, you really do need to know your limitations.

Much love to you, your family and your garden :v:
