Has this ever happened to you?

Weeeeeeell…
Last December or so, I had our Son get rid of the used soil/rootballs from a couple grows…he tossed them over the side of the deck and behind the dogs fenced run.

Today…
Our daughter says " uuuuhm…Mom…are you growing outside?

“Well…yeah, in the greenhouse”…

No Mom…I mean OUTSIDE…you need to come here a minute…

Now…this is about 12-15 feet from where I stand EVERY BLOODY DAY to tend the deck greenhouse, or play with the pups…
SHE saw it FROM HER ROOM while looking out the window about 40 feet away!

There are 3, all are about 5-6 ft tall, and a 4th small one is about 3ft tall and behind the rest…they are gonna be beauties! Hope they are all girls!

Now to weed, and fence them so they are legal!

were any plants pollinated/hermed? wondering if some seeds fell onto the soil surface of that used soil before it was tossed. or maybe your son or daughter tossed a few seeds in the “trash pile” :joy:

I have left about a 2" stump in a pot in the corner of my balcony and about 4-6 months later there were new shoots coming from it.

That’s what I call a nice surprise… :+1:t5:

I threw some old soil behind my shed early this year in March. I went back there to dump another load two weeks ago, and saw a healthy plant about 3 feet tall. This is behind my shed, between a fence, with about 1.5ft of space, with maybe 2 hours of direct sunlight per day. Weed is a magical plant. Weed soil is magical-er.

Yeah, I would think seeds falling off a harvested plant into soil can pop-up at anytime. It’s the survival rate of the seed that’s surprising, but with shade to keep from drying out and cracking possible. Then it’s just a matter of rain hitting at the right time. @resimax

I did the same as you @Lady.Zandra63 but with tomatoes but the frost killed them. You must have good fertile ground, mine was a cow field.

The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen was a rootball propagating itself, with cotyledon which is completely unheard of. I’ve never been able to get any explanation of this. After harvesting, the seedlings were connected to the root ball, with no end to them. More surprising is they just kept multiplying as I kept pulling them up, until I gave up and I had a bunch of sprouts as a mulch.

Edit: And no, there were no seeds in the soil. This was my 2nd grow I ever did indoor, with my first batch of soil I mixed myself. I didn’t have any other seeds, and they only showed up 5 weeks after irrigations, shortly after switching the light schedule to bloom. I still dream about getting answers to this one. Roots are known to propagate in some cases, but never with cotyledon, and the number of seedlings I had was astronomical.

We call them ‘volunteers’. They look amazing. Congratulations!

That is a pretty interesting case. I’ve never heard of that myself, that strain must’ve had some magical powers
Did you grow em out?

Sadly the “mother” plant hermied bad shortly after flowers appeared, so I tossed it. It was a white label freebie from NASC, a feminized (lol) GSC seed. I only took one cutting and that hermied too…well before flowering. I was so looking forward to experiencing that again. Weird and bad genetics. Oh well.

Anyway, my point is I’ve seen cannabis do some very weird things. Nothing surprises me anymore. In the OP’s case, it sounds like a nice treat, but I’ve had that surprise too many times to call it a surprise anymore

I threw a potted plant I cut just above the soil outside after winter when it was warmer a bit but still freezing at night, winter spring
eventually, it started revegging like mad. Branchiest plant I had compared to the 4 I put outside after but I worried I stressed the revegger too much to bud or even worse shed hermi pollen. cool surprise tho

I’m pretty sure most people don’t really see what’s about them. You have certainly confirmed that! :joy::joy::joy:

That’s awesome though…free weed!

Found some seedlings growing in a motel flower bed. Gave them to a friend who grew. Turned out to be pretty good stuff.

They most definitely look like seed sprouts. In some of the cotyledons, a brownish color can be seen. This disappears quickly once it gets exposed to light, and indicates to me that the shell of the seed was shed within the past few hours. Also, the very presence of cotyledons is proof of a seed. All of the seedlings have cotyledons.

Somehow seeds were dropped into your medium.

I have had volunteers on the other side of the yard from where my plants grew. And alot of them. Seeds are tiny and easily sprouted from fresh stock. It isn’t a bad idea to take a tour of your yard. You never know what is growing there.

I too was blessed with a surprise plant that showed up under a plant that was approximately 5 weeks into flower. I had issues with getting some of BOG’s Sour Grape to germinate so I assume that is what is as that makes the most sense. I transplanted and she (hopefully) is doing well. And if it’s a male then it’s time to break out the leather and chains.

Good growing

@Lady.Zandra63 yes!!!

2x MASSIVE plants are growing mad in my compost heap from indoor root balls. I can’t figure out what they are yet but I’m leaving them cause it’s fucking funny!
