Hash Making Revisited

Hi, dunno if I discovered something new or what ever, so I thought to share it with the best community on earth anyway.

I’ve been able recreate the piatella consistency of QWISO multiple times now. I use 9/10 fresh frozen material and 1/10 dried material. I’m using no heat in the process and everything is evaporated with cold air, around 0-5c. I scrape the plate when I notice that the QWISO reach a very goopy consistency and transfer it to its final curing container. I let it cure in the refrigerator and take it out to breath for 15 min every day for atleast 3 weeks before the consistency have settled. The end result is a semi crystalized hash that got the same look and feel as piatella. The terps are also better preserved the normal(not live) ice water hash rosin.

I’ve tried this with different ratios, if I use too much dried material, I end up with a dry or crystalized product. If I don’t use it at all, it will stay in a liquid form indefinitely.

It’s also important to pull it before it’s fully evaporated because you will end up with crumble consistency.

My theory is that the dried lipids from the dry material initiate some sort of local crystallisation of the residual lipids in the live QWISO. Leaving a semi crystalized texture.

Here’s a pic of the last dab of my latest batch. It’s was a small amount of cannabis used so there’s not a lot of QWISO. When you have an larger amount of product, you can see and feel the piatella consistency better.

But here you can see the crusty outside, looking like hash and where I’ve disturbed it at the sides, it starts to melt, like piatella. Also, if I have a large blob and cut it, it splits like piatella does. It’s almost like kinetic sand.

To make that they just vacuum pack live extract and put it in the fridge for a while.

@JoeCrowe Oh yeah I know, but that’s not from QWISO. Never seen or heard it achieved with QWISO extraction before. Thought it would be interesting because it’s such a user friendly way of creating something like piatella without any special tech.

Just got a food saver yesterday. That batch I made in the video I posted has been dry and just sitting. Guess I’ll vacuum seal it and try that.

so this contest is a way for contest organizers to sell your stuff to judges and keep the profits - but if you win you get bragging righs? seems like you should start a contest yourself

Unfortunately Health Canada has terminated competitions with legalese.

I’ve been working on a simplistic tech to try and replicate it. Gimme 30 days! I should be able to do it without a food saver.

Just want to say - thanks for all of this information - I routinely put pounds of smoke back into the garden as I just dont have anyone to give it too. my sons and a friend are the only ones that I deal with now. Will look into making some hash this year

OMGS I love the spinning tech!!

I just did a lazy in 5 gallon bucket ice wash of a plant’s worth of dust from a First Class Funk plant that failed on a seed run… okay I did get 4 seeds but still  .

While it is a lil’green, I repeat: THIS IS FROM DUST… and as a bonus talk about 90u for days!.

Here’s the 90u up close.

I’m not sure what I’ll do with this… I’m loving my Nugz Happle so I’m thinking I’ll mix it all up and make a series of temple balls to enjoy throughout the summer.

Spinning bags like a wild-person outside is adding to my intimidating the neighbours off the property

Looks very good. Check out the colour difference on the 25.

I like to make many small temple balls and then hide them from myself.

It’s still in the freezer…

I’ll cut it up today.

Test the melt on those batches! If you go thunder dome style and keep cranking hash, you’ll have infinite dabs.

How long do you let it dry in the freezer?

Probably a week, depends on how much moisture is in there.

Not much, remember I patted a lot out of it, :grimacing:

Yah the real strange part is if you pressed on the hash, it’ll never freeze dry. At least, I’ve never seen it freeze dry in months and months. I used to press on it with a piece of parchment to press the water out, but now, that would never work. Only works for shelf drying.

Would a freeze/microplane help here? Or is it a friction/pressure ruptured gland thing?
