Hash Making Revisited

No picture but I’ll give a long-winded explanation of what & how & why  with past experiences…

This was 6 different immature (wk 6/7) plants cut because of mold. 1/2 Cindy99 crosses & a Space Queen x Kush, and an Orange Sunshine F2.

Cut buds & some left on branches, direct to freezer in ziploc bags. Waited a few weeks for my washer & bags to arrive in Hawaii.

I mix 50/50 ice to water until it’s nearly all melted(no thermometer avail)
Put buds directly into hand-me-down :muscle: 3 gal Bubble Magic washer, followed by roughly 1/2 gallon of ice, then water. Wait for most of ice to melt. (Frenchy Cannoli, RIP)

Washed 15 minutes, drained/transferred water to bucket with ice (“holding cell”) :ice_cube:
Repeat 5x for a total of 6 washes.

Stacked 45, 73, 90, 125, 160, 220 bags onto bottomless 5 gallon bucket over a milk-crate.

Put ice in 220/top bag & pour & wait & pour & wait… :older_man: :coffin:

Since this is small & moldy run, I combined all the resin grades, lightly wringed out in a blotter, then freezer overnight, then air-dry. I only used multiple bags because the 45 will clog badly with larger material & it will take eons :mountain: to finish.

Result, a light gray to white, rock hard hash. Crumbly but only barely. Won’t stick to itself, burns harsh. Then I said fuck it & tossed it in my coffee(weed) grinder & obliterated it into dust.

When I first started making bubble about 5 yrs ago, I hand stirred in a 5 gal bucket with a modified spatula. I would follow Frenchy’s recommendation of doing a short 1 minute wash, then 3, then 5, & so on. I slowly learned by doing that the process needs to be gentle & eventually yielded some pink wax :astonished: that tasted like boysenberry pancake syrup. :raised_hands: It was a tiny amount & I immediately thought “Oh Shit! I have to get a witness to this!” (didn’t happen  ).

After at least 50 washes I noticed scoring/wear on the buckets from the ice & stirring. :unamused: This suggested plastic being smoked. Didn’t like that & was thinking about a stainless steel bucket but a friend gave me his old washing machine. It does seem to be too violent or fast of a spin & I’ve wondered if I could modify the speed with a different pulley ratio on the bottom. (It has a large & small pulley with drivebelt). My electrical knowledge isn’t enough to rewire the motor.

So all in all, I shouldn’t be too surprised with it & am afraid I’ll need to go back to hand stirring, which is painful, literally. Have gotten wrist & elbow strain from it. (Now pipe down @Esrgood4u ! :joy: )

Thoughts? :man_shrugging:

I’ve been thinking about trying out some crushed ice on my next wash. My thoughts behind it is needing less ice in the washing machine to keep a cool temp because it should melt faster. Resulting in a more gentle wash?? Could just be a waste of time to what do you think lol

while I’m at it throwing some crazy ideas out here

would it be crazy to turn this into a hash washing machine

I just do the drill with a cake mixer attachment in the jacobs chuck. 2 cycles of 15min with a 30min rest inbetween. More cycles = more plant material contamination. I fill the bucket with cold water, I let the tap run for a bit until the water stings my arm with cold. Put a layer of ice then buds and another layer of ice. The lesson I learned from my original teacher was if the ice melts and there are no cubes left in the water, you are in deep trouble. I put 12 trays of ice in there, it fills the 6 inch/15cm head I leave in the bucket once a kilo of buds are in there.
Bubbleman says a good test run is 3 batches of 2 kilos, lol I’m not that hard core.
I just use the 220, 90 and 25 micron bags, but only keep the 90 micron. It was observed as best under the 'scope and then proved itself in the competition.

I use the lift and drop, followed by the spin to drive out most of the remaining water.
Really, life is too short to smoke moldy anything. I just make it into tincture, because all pathogens will be destroyed in the process.
My original saying from 2 years ago is this: garbage in, garbage out.

one word for you, DeWALT.

In your case it’s fire in, fire out.

lol! Definitely. If you told me two years ago… what I’d be up to now, I would have laughed.

Your microscope is your ‘leg up’ on the competition…

The work you did with that instrument really fine tuned your processes.
Well, that and figuring out how to desiccate the bubble hash in a regular freezer…
…OK, and Big Bud too…
 :+1:

lol! Ok how do I do it?

  1. hash plant thunder dome. Only the best survive.
  2. microscopic imaging
  3. over 2 decades of experience.
  4. ultimate pheno hunted plant that anyone else would have tossed in the garbage.

Hopefully I’ve helped speed up the process for anyone else, who wants to try it. Ahhh, I guess I have to admit I’m also two feet, a heart beat and perhaps, a brain  I think most people got that part covered!

OMG I forgot the most important ingredient! The secret ingredient!

You know it’s true.

I think I’m missing number four
Congrats on the trophy !

I love this so much

This was interesting to watch; bubbleman comments that he doesn’t need a particular step

I’m not patient enough for more than a half hour of this kind of work & my humidity is sky high so dry sift probably won’t happen much here.

lol yah, bubbleman is a huge fan of that method, he says he can remove 99% of contamination in a dry sift.

ok I ordered a bubble terp slurper with cosmic pearls. Got me a terp timer and a titanium travel kit. I’m gonna be the ultimate terpene inhaler! One day I’ll get some radical custom terp pearls.

Sounds kinky!

lol! Just wait ‘till it gets here in a couple of days I’ll be stylin’. Just like last years rosin press…yo after I win I’ve got to upgrade my life. That was some next level shit I saw at the dab station, so I asked lots of questions, and looked over their rigs. Banyan tree are some kind of dab pros I hit their dosido rosin heh heh, they definitely had the fancy ass rigs. I saw other ones I was unimpressed with like the thick bottom quartz bangers. When I saw the terp slurpers, I said “shiiit, where have you been all my life?!?”

oh my actually here’s his words of advice to me:
him “Hey what kind of rig do you have?”
me “just some hot knives.”
him “What? You made that excellent product and ruined it with hot knives?”

Not anymore, once you get used to a nice rig, you never go back.

I murdered them.

I am definitely looking forward to it. I’ll be in flavor country! The look on his face when he told me I ruined it was priceless.

You sure did!! 41.9/50…
That scored higher than any 1st place in any category…

Dave got eaten alive this year! Not literally, of course.
If I can find some hardcore backers, I bet I could nail first place in rosin. Next level shit though, because I would need many kilos of buds.
Yah, it was really satisfying to see the overall results! Better keep pins away from my head it could fucking pop like a balloon! lol! Then the hot air will escape!

You and Budderton have inspired me… …and a bit of money…

I’m judging in the Karma cup this year…

I’ll ‘open the box’ tonight :+1:
