This is going to be fun I keep making sure my hair is good so I don’t look like shit on the news when I’m sitting on my roof waiting for a boat to come save us.
Oh my fuck @Breelie I hope only the best for you and your fam!
uh-oh! it’s a big one…hope you have some sunny windows for the plants…or a generator…good luck!
Thanks!! We might need it. It came so fast, I feel like we were just alerted 2 days ago and then basically told, it’s too late to evacuate. Exit routes backed up, and airport got swamped. If youre here, youre here. My biggest concern is during major ones (that have been less severe than this one) We lose power and even cell coverage for a week or more. Just got a notice to not expect any kind of help until 72 hours after it passes. So I’m kind of hoping to tough it out a few says, then get the heck out for a week or two. Gonna make my toddler sleep in a floatie vest
I have windows but… who knows when we will see sun again lol. Luckily I only have 1 photo going, that is young enough to not be a devastating loss. My autos should be fine. I’ve seen those guys flower accidentally being left in the dark for 2 weeks.
Holy shit girl! You be extra careful. The hell with the plants. Those can be regrown. You and child, are one of a kind. Can’t be replaced. Hang in there. Let us know if we can help somehow.
Thank you. And that was my first thought to. not too concerned about the plants. I was here for Katrina and this one is coming in a lot worse. :dizzy: We seriously got almost not chance to get out. They basically said no one evacuate because there isn’t enough time and you’re safer at home than in a car trapped. Our area is SO heavily wooded with massive trees, that’s what I feel our greatest threat might be at my home. Flooding is possible, but I have a 6 ft deep creek behind my house that should help. But the trees… huge.
I bet they won’t be standing tomorrow.
Man, anyplace you can go to higher ground? I wouldn’t want to be near a creek. They’re expecting 12-15 foot storm surge.
Man, be safe and get your plans together. I’ve gone through a lot of hurricanes and they are nothing to take lightly. This one is gonna be similar to Camille in strength. It’s blowing 150 mph sustained wind with gusts to 182!
It’s still going to be strong by the time it gets to Baton Rouge. I’ll pray and try and send good vibes that it slows way down before it gets that far north. Seems like these storms always hit in the middle of the night.
Prayers and vibes sent! peace
Thanks! Definitely not looking forward to it. No where to go though, can’t leave though! parts of the Mississippi river run allll through here. When we had the massive flood in 2016, all around my neighborhood flooded but not mine (barely) My place is probably the safer out of all my family nearby.
Looking like hitting us hard around 3 and allllll through the night. -_- !
you take care of you and yours please
positive vibrations and energy going your way !!
Getting on this a bit late, I went thru a flood nothing compared to what’s happening to you at this very moment.
Be safe think smart and God speed
Damn I hope you and all are ok.
I hope all went well through the night, although I bet it was no fun. I hope you haven’t lost your power, but I know that all of New Orleans went down.
I bet it’s going to be really sad once the picture becomes more clear throughout the day. That was a bad one, wind wise. And, the fact that it stalled out once coming onshore is gonna show us some massive damage.
Glad the thing went a little east of Baton Rouge, but I bet it got hit hard, still. Prayers and vibes sent.
Nice green-themed swing set! Those look like oak trees - that’s nothing - I’ve got a half-dozen giant white pines towering over my house, the trunks are huge, could cut through my house like a butter knife.
Up here it would be $1000 each to have those trees cut down. I’d be looking at 5-10 thousand to get all the trees down that threaten my house. I’ve decided it’s easier to move, but I can’t really afford that either - hope you’re doing OK down there @Breelie
Yeah, that was an historical storm. 5th strongest in US history. All trees blow over in the south if they’ve had enough rain before. Supposedly LA had already gotten a year’s worth of rain before this storm. If the ground is saturated, it’ll blow those 200 yo oaks over, root mass and all. Pine trees usually snap midway down and blow in the wind like missiles.
I hear that people were supposed to get cell service from other carriers that still have towers, regardless of your own carrier. I don’t know if BR lost all of their power, but NO did, and it was every main transmission line supplying the city. Not sure if that affects BR, but the storm went just east of the city.
Hope you guys are safe and sound, @Breelie. The worst part about the aftermath of a hurricane is how long it takes to clean up and restore basic needs. It’ll test the hardest of people. Especially in August, with no power and 100% humidity. Payers and vibes sent. peace
They fell. Everything is destroyed. No cell coverage, no gas anywhere, no lights, no water. Everything is destroyed. It’s so sad. We got so lucky to be physically ok
OMG’s @Breelie I and many of us here on OG are really happy to see you and your family are okay.
Watching the storm surge live was something else. Sending you all positive vibes and ONLY the very best!
I dosed my toddler with Melatonin and laid over him in the laundry room. Hearing those trees rip out of the ground and fall is not going to leave me for a while for sure. I love how happy and innocent my boy still is about it all. I cried, and he’s like, it’s ok mommy, we have corn dogs. ugh I’m pretty depressed at this very moment, I expect it will take weeks to get power back. I drove over at least 8 downed lines, trees hanging over the streets by a lone power line… just to get 5 minutes down the road to see if my parents were ok. Crazy out here right now, no updates on anything really, just climbing death toll, can’t leave either. Just kind of stuck toughing it out
