Maha, I am big smiles here because I can see from your words that we love the same kind of weed. I like to be a little scared when I reach for the jar. Not really oh shit here comes paranoia but more like just cancel appointments for next 4-5 hours haha.
Yes, the line is different from the more common Dutch hazes. When I was there in '94, I was smoking a very good pure haze everyday from one of the old Dutch shops, maybe dampkring? That was like more Colombian type leather and fresh sawn teak wood. Thatās what I was expecting first time I grew the seeds. But something very different grows, it was almost exactly same like the Thai I grew many years before. I agree with your Aussie friends. It has other very complex things going on but it is very Thai heavy no doubt in my mind about that. One of the common other things is that metallic smell/flavor in the profile. Itās not my favorite, but I am scared to breed away from it because that is a common profile in the most resinous individuals in my experience.
I agree about hybrids and compromise. If we look at a haze chart it has maybe 5%, a few plants spike then the rest score very low in all category. With hybrids you can have a nice smooth curve on the chart all scoring very high. I just can never get that curve as high as I like in quality, up where those original 5% is. Itās a super ambitious goal and I love to see you having good success looks like. I also think Thai would be excellent outcross, as long as itās a quality Thai.
Thatās the kind of flowering time that I like best. At 8 weeks Iām just getting to know the plant, would be a shame to end it so soon, hehe.
I agree that lower heat is the way to go. Iām finding that keeping my LEDs turned down lower makes my plants happier too, while saving electricity. The wife wants me to keep my flowering room shut down this winter because rates are going to shoot up here. So Iām already planning one or two bonsai style micro grows this winter. Last year I pulled 19 grams from a one square foot mini tent using just 39 watts total with screw in bulbs and including the computer vent fan, running 11/13.
hey @TomHill I know what you say about that quality, I call it tropical quality, that only narrow leaf can haveā¦ I can say that my hybrids has more of this quality than amnesia, nevilles haze, silver haze etcā¦
I smoked hawaiian haze from 90s and amsterdam purple haze 94 cut, and these were the best of dutch haze, but they were so long flowering, that only few guys kept it, I think true hawaiian haze is lost evenā¦ they were great, but the effect was that floaty dreamy stony colombian oneā¦ I think that punto rojo was only one colombian which was really trippy, close to thai, but still not there, this citric thai haze is just top.
mouth watering. tropical boogie is about magic effect, more than trippy quality imo. kona gold is kind of beach weed. but that shows power of the male, that he is able to transform chill out weed into something like tropical boogie isā¦ magic! like you said, great for playing music, intensified element of hearingā¦
I am still looking for trippy hawaiian, havent found any yet. I should get Puna sativa, which should hide some thai phenosā¦
all hawaiians, I grew, were relaxing weed, little psychoactivity, but mostly psychoreactivity. I like them for that, great relaxants.
juicy is different you will see @TexasTea , more trippy and trance-like weedā¦ not so electric like toms haze, but it has some dose of nervousness and jittery feelings. mind visits different dimension. like I said, I am not type of guy who would listen to sounds of wind hehehe, but after smoking juicy, it gives sense LOL
I looked at ace seeds chiang mai, which is selected from landrace, not landrace. and they say 10 - 15 %, I think it doesnāt exclude possibility to find let say 18%ā¦
toms haze is not landrace thai. before Tom Hill worked it, and Positronics worked it, Skunkman worked it hehe and if I know it well, Skunkman first selection criteria for males was thc content, so I think he increased thc levels by his selection, compared to landrace thaisā¦
also even landrace thai grown in its native environment,// and what is the definition of landrace for me, line which was selected through hundreds of generations to perform in certain and specific environment, usually in some specific microclimate, and these microclimates change from valley to valley. // would have 20% thc content, it is very hard to achieve same output out of its native environment, and it is need to be selected some generations for it.
MAHAKALA thanks for the info pure gold! Do you know what THC levels they were looking for in male Thai?
I think when I am done playing mad scientist I will probably go for the Tom Haze. Trying to grow this stuff with 8ā ceilings is not working for me. Maybe I will build 12 foot ceilings
nice Lao! what is origin? you should try toms haze, it is a must. or at least some good hybrid of it.
yeah it gets big size - it is one of the reasons people will not grow it, even they have right climate, because it is hard to hide it, in season 2020 I grew my green thai pheno of toms haze next to vintage nevilles cut and bandaid haze7 cut, and it outgrew those cuts twice, huge octopus with long branchesā¦ crazy! not indoor friendly at all hahaha.
we should ask @TomHill about thc levels in his haze lineā¦
The female and male came from RSC (Angus). I was just looking for a good male and got lucky I think. I made a clone that I am going to hit with 750 ppm of florel and see what happens! Lao Gold is the cultivar.
I am in with Tomās haze! If his haze is anything like his Chunk then HELL YES!!
He would know the answer to that question wouldnāt he hehe. I am collecting his stuff! 40+ yrs later and his genetics are still going strong!
His Freak Chunk was the one from the eighties that I really remember as being leaps and bounds ahead of the crap we were messing with.
I had gotten some seeds from a gal friend from Sturgis in 80 and grew them that summer with my friends. We didnāt know anything about growing the stuff and nobody was doing the separate the males from females back then so plenty of open pollen crap seeds I suppose? Definitely a tropical type with narrow leaves and speedy fun high.
I hear ya, itās getting uglyā¦but thatās what small tents are for, heheā¦I rechecked my micro setup and the total is actually 36watts including the computer vent fan. I ran it on a 11/13 schedule last year and got 19 grams out of it without really even trying. It is amazing what can be done with a minimum of equipment and I thank Blynx on IC Mag for doing the research to get these screw in LED Mini Cabs rolling.
I have two of these Homebox 1 square foot mini tents, and then a 16" x 16" four foot tall mini tent but that one needs a little bit stronger light setup to get good penetration because of the increased height.
