Tedious chopping, this is for dried bud runs. For fresh frozen we chop it small and keep it in a big flat open container in the freezer.
I plan to run fresh frozen here by this weekend.
If you store it with moisture in it ,it Will mold . Fresh frozen takes forever to dry in the freezer but really keeps the terps. We just use the dust strait from the freezer.GL
So is the stuff in the first picture the chopped buds or the hash?
Thanks dude. Ya I dry it very very well before storing. I haven’t had hash mold yet.
I scape the hash from the bags and lay it on a 25 micron screen with paper towel underneath. I keep the hash in tight piles and leave it in the freezer overnight. I then take the frozen block of hash and microplane (fine grater) it, onto a sheet of parchment paper, to a fine consistency. Put it back in the freezer and allow about 7-10 days to air dry, uncovered. When dry, it will have the consistency of fine sand. You should store in the freezer.
The final product is a flavourful and excellent hash.
So freezer is what I’m missing.
It’s the microplane that’s the key. It will take forever to dry otherwise.
Well that’s also something I’m not doing. I’ll have to do this.
This was the breakthrough for me. Air drying in even small pieces takes weeks/months in the freezer. Once it’s frozen in a big blob straight from the wash bag, the microplane takes about 1 minutes and it’s done.
This is the way. Gotta have the micro plane for fresh frozen goodness!
Do you have links for a microplane to create fresh frozen goodness?
The temperature in all this is one of the main things. If you live in a cold area, wash and work the bags outside. When using the microplane, keep it in the freezer with the blob. I hold ice in my hands and cool them off before touching the hash (dry hands always). Don’t let those sweet terps escape!
I am in a cold area, so that’s perfect. It was 23 degrees when the washing machine was running.
That’s Canada but you get the idea
Old bud and fresh frozen are two different procedures for me.
Interesting. Why’s that?
Old bud has been at room temp, so I dry the hash at room temp. And store at room temp. With fresh , you want to keep it frozen to preserve freshness.
Gotcha. Thanks dude!
how much did that washer cost you ?. need to do something with all this killer trim i have been giving away lately, not really wanting to do the whole buckets and ice water and spoon way.
thank you for any info …
