Let us discuss seed giveaways, proper etiquete, self restraint, and seed addiction + Pets

Obviously you have every right to your opinion… but IMHO at this point you might as well just call out specific people, given that you’re casting a pretty wide net.

Let s/he who is not a greedy fat pigeon cast the first stone.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Love y’all even if we aren’t going to see eye to eye.

@yardgrazer I was gonna say that too hahah but who knows maybe I’m that fat pigeon that isn’t self aware enough to realize it.

I totally feel where ur coming from, the whole fat cats getting fatter. Or in this case the same names in EVERY giveaway. Well when it’s a call horn and pick a number of course it’s gonna happen, were all showing up to the roulette table and deciding if the prize is one we would want. That’s why I think many members have chosen to do giveaways in their own threads so it’s not just the “fat pigeons” but rather their supporters following their work cheering em on

If I’m being honest this issue prob comes up every time this time of year, I remember last year quite a few that I’ll leave unnamed that was genetic diving too. Season has kicked off for most and the tail end to get things going so the seed swaps are in its prime on this site right now and when the birdseed is abundant u cant help but see the swarm of birds and some are always fatter

End of the day many of the seed runs yield hundreds to thousands of seeds, I def won’t get upset if someone got a 10 pack of mine and hoarded it, hopefully one day they give it away or grow it out

I’ve had members hit me up and ask for more cuz they gave what I sent them to a friend in need of seed and decided they also want to grow it too cuz what they saw their buddy do with em. No greater joy

So I have to wonder what you think of me, a hobby grower who likely will never make seeds and has more seeds than I will likely ever grow. Most of those seeds were won or simply given to me out of the generosity of folks’ hearts, although some I bought from JP.

@LoveDaAutos Well we should discuss the fact that some might be taking these gifted seeds and turning a profit on them.
I was told by a few people that this was most certainly happening.
I was told to inquire as to what happened to OleReynard
I do not mean to cast judgment on the guy, just an inquiry into what happened.

I do the occasional giveaway and could not care less about this issue. If I feel the need to set rules, I will. If I feel someone has received enough from me, I am well within my rights to keep them out of any of my giveaways. Since the rules for each giveaway are at the discretion of the giver, I really don’t see the point of this. Trying to dictate to others how they should act or what their limits should be is not my style. I have now seen folks called vultures and compared to hyenas, just not digging the vibe. :v:

Over growing the world isn’t about free seeds , it’s meant to be about teaching , giving advice / tips and support

We all knew how the free seeds would pan out : )

This has already been debated many moons ago and lost in favour of more trafic for the site : )

If you are only here to get free seeds and nothing more, I do not feel the term Vulture is uncalled for.
If you are getting free seeds and selling them there should be another term for that.
I personally feel most are just seed junkies and good people.
I am not opposed to calling a spade a spade but I do agree with @DougDawson we should not use the term loosely.
Some of these folks I call friends, just cause they are seed junkies does not make them bad people.

I agree!
But you do have to pop some seed to Overgrow the world.

And you know it was me who used that terminology (vultures and hyenas) on the Spring gift box thread which was flagged and I removed. I also wrote this thread with as much tact as possible without using such words.

I’m fairly new to the site again. I was here years ago. I have been entering some of these seed raffles lately and do plan on growing the ones I enter. I have noticed people who enter can’t be bothered to thank those who offer up their work of free seeds. I think this is a great community and there will always be those who take advantage and others who beg for free things. When someone does something nice for you the least you can do is say thank you and acknowledge their generosity. Karma will always win in the end.

I asked Jetdro this question above. I will also ask you. “I have to wonder what you think of me, a hobby grower who likely will never make seeds and has more seeds than I will likely ever grow. Most of those seeds were won or simply given to me out of the generosity of folks’ hearts, although some I bought from JP.”

I don’t feel like I’m either of those things, but I’m not in any way, shape or form a serious grower.

From what I’ve seen it seems to me the vast majority of giveaways are won by people who are really active members of the forum?

I’d like to think of it as a positive and that it encourages people to Pay it Forward in other ways.

Are we talking about seed trades or seed giveaways?
If giveaways I am going to have to disagree @LoveDaAutos
I dont see the problem when I am encouraged by the giver to sign up to win their seeds.
If you mean trades, I dont know, I havent traded with anyone yet.

Well brother, you know what happened when a certain person got way over his head in seed and trades, I tried to rectify the wrong by making him own up, make it right AND I wanted to put limiting restrictions on their activities after…it wasn’t well received by the members. In retrospect that person need it as his was compulsive, and after all that he screwed me and stole from Johnny to walk off. @boatbum325 is very apt, when he says “no good deed goes unpunished” and it’s the truth. After this, people trying to get seed from me won’t be so willing met if they aren’t going be participants in discussions. This how I’ll weed out anyone trying for a seed stop by and would rather not participate and contribute to discussion.

That’s painting with a pretty broad brush. I’m sure you mean there are some people who can’t be bothered.

Yes It was a broad brush. I did mean some not all.
