Yo that’s not how science works.
You should definitely read up on the philosophy of science as well! You will learn there is “false” and “not false” it’s never true.
I’ve taken plenty of philosophy of science classes at the collegiate level and I’m a big fan of Hegel. I’d recommend you check out Hegel’s Science of Logic and perhaps then you’ll reevaluate how you think. For now we can agree to disagree
wow, you are going to stick by what you said as answering my simple questions and replying to my statement about proving what is real? Frink out!
No hard feelings man. I just don’t think you’re looking for honest engagement and tbh, being told to “go read some philosophy of science” after dedicating years of my life to reading and writing about it was a tad patronizing. Anyways, best of luck to you and lots of likes!
wait wait, so are you admitting your reality can be tested?
Nope. Never said that. Anyways, this isn’t going anywhere so this will be my last response. Best of luck!
This thread is great, I’m learning some excellent stuff!
There’s no test to prove that we can trust every test, and no test to thoroughly prove that all our senses can be trusted. Thus, no tests can entirely prove what is or is not real; only what appears to be real, on the basis of individual senses and communication from what we assume to be other individuals. Of course, that brings into question the reality of other people - from an ontological standpoint, solipsism can’t be disproven either, although most of us can agree that as a lifestyle choice it’s somewhat lacking and can be proven to be a bad choice, by jailtime if nothing else.
There should be a test to see if joecrowe is for real.
Your about to wake him up.,
ok, so I can or can’t test if I can fly by flapping my arms?
I live for conversations like this! My friends get so mad when I explore their reality. Oh I’m like reaching nirvana here. ironically nirvana means nothingness.
You can test whether your senses tell you that you can fly, including your senses telling you that you’ve made a very bad mistake by trying to fly and instead crashing into the ground. Whether that’s enough to prove beyond absolutely any shadow of a doubt that you have crashed into the ground depends on you. Psychedelics can help to realize that the connection between our senses and reality is not absolute… philosophers have been discussing it for centuries with no conclusion, probably also with the aid of psychedelics.
Gravity is real. I can painfully attest to it’s existence.
I went up quickly but came down even faster.
Conclusion -
What I can tell you Is I was thrown into being born,in this reality.Don’t know how nor why,but I am here.Since I exist,I have to be here writing this.Since I am here,I live.I am here. When I Will not be here anymore, who can tell?
In reality, yeah, absolutely. The thread’s about philosophy, though, life after death… dovetails neatly in with philosophy on the nature of reality, and how we know what real is.
The Wachowski brothers - or sisters? - said it better and with far better special effects.
Yep you could be fooling yourself, that’s the most important rule. Never fool yourself, and you are the easiest one to fool. Make sure you check with a sober friend to see if you levitated or get someone to snap a photo to see. I mean… you can test that out easy enough right?
I can, but the philosophers like to delve a little deeper, into how we can trust our senses even when we’re sober. For that matter, in court, eyewitness testimony is generally considered the least reliable evidence…
I think we can start from a point we all agree,we are thrown in this world. And in this world you have to figure It out what is reality, death,Life, pain, empathy,Joy etc etc…Thoughts as well are points of view, but, stating and writing something implies we are here, thrown in this Place. After death,no One ever wrote something that could be read or Heard by NO ONE talking here.
yah well if you don’t trust that, then get nasa to test you for secret peyote propulsion system.
